Your comment on the masterpiece card encapsulate my feelings on Dominion as a whole. Most of the time when I play, I'm not thinking about what the most efficient strategy would be, I'm thinking about the craziest combos I can pull off. Even if I don't have the highest score at the end, pulling off something silly is so gratifying I still consider it a moral victory. I'm also glad to see a few cards with passive income over time. Thematically, it definitely fills a need.
ya that's a good description "mass market" games. I had a friend get me into these more hobbyist style games last year. Now my collection has gone from Settlers of catan and monopoly, to agricola, dominion, thunderstone, nightfall (my wife likes the card games), and dominant species.Really hope to add Seasons later this year. I've gotten a lot of my games based off of Tom's reviews and always watch his reviews before I buy a game. So far he hasn't led me wrong.
Dominion was the second "non traditional" game I bought (non traditional meaning not Monopoly, Risk ect) behind Agricola. To this day it's my wife's favorite game to play other than Nightfall, she has this thing about killing me which is a little scary. I loved the Rats card from Dark Ages, unfortunately I've only played 1 game where someone actually used it.
I think of games like Monopoly and Risk as "mass market." That is, you can find them at the toy department of your local discount store (Walmart et. al). If a game isn't mass market, I think of it as more of a "hobbyist" game. Not all hobby games by this definition are Eurogames, of course, but many are. As always, YMMV.
Ah, come on, Pictures by Alayna Lemmer, Claus Stephan, Julien Delval etc. are really awesome. But the awful ones by Maura Kalusky and this horrible childish picture for "Tournament" from Cornucopia, they really should be reworked

Tom, Can you do a video rating Dominion and its expansions 1-9 based on your experience?

Usefull and entertaining review! Keep up the good work.
Such a useful review Tom and Melody! Significantly better laid out than the written instructions.

Well. It was a tribute for PR anniversary, actually. Google "dominion strategy wiki Governor", "Secret History" section

The governor looks like a take on Puerto Rico. The flags look like that role card and the mechanic reminds me of PR.
"Harem" will haunt you forever
Guilds is a very very good expansion. If you love Dominion, get it!
Again a great & solid review! Thanks... Will we see the Data Packs of Android Netrunner as well?!
hahahaha good that they stopped making it :P can we get your thoughts on the combined box? cheers
Taxman would probably be really cool with prosperity treasures.
The "overpay mechanic" sounds like what happens every time I get my car serviced.
Somebody likes Silver a lot...
thats um a huge box for 13 new cards
I hope they will now start a redesign line with good artwork. Because my eyes still bleed when I play Dominion.
That's almost exactly what happened to me
watching this in 2021 and heard "last expansion for a while" hahahahahaha
13 decks. 13 new types of cards.
Ok rats? OOOHH KKAAAYYY RATS???? *takesratsandstompsmadlyoff
Not a fan of dark ages? I am surprised
