    I remember myself imagening a synth or sampler looking like a calculator 15 years ago. Dreams can come true 😄
    And thnx for the crisp n clear review, BoBeats.

    Great review Bo! Really good editing and information. I'd love to get this whole series one day, great little noise boxes, and they seem really good for coming up with creative groves. On another note, I'd love to see you review the Korg Volca Sample!

    Yeah I love this and the speak so much. They pair so well with samples from a nice synth, or even field recordings.
    I'm actually considering getting the tonic as well.. I even bought microtonic already for use with the speak :D

    I love mine! So easy to come up with cool variations. It's limitations really does inspire creativity, compared to a daw where you can get lost in a sea of possibility, and of course you can always sample the 33 if you ever need to get deeper or add variation. I love all my Po's but I will forever cherish my knockout.

      That's the reason why I'm so excited about this tiny gadget. I enjoy All kind Electronic Music and I would love to try to make some cheeky beat but I feel so overwhelmed with the knowledge that's needed in order to do something interesting. I Like PO's constrains like I like programming for Commodore 64

    I like that you also commented the limitations of it. Especially compared to the "speak" which has much more musicallY functionality, f.e. scales, chromatic transposing and those amazing Synthesis Models which are Parameter lockable. What I today hate about the KO.... After a while the Potentiometers become unsteady and truncating is Like serving Tea in the dark. Overall: awesome for the price and on a educational really interesting to Show to Kids how sampling works

    With the 33, is it possible to use effects on incoming audio before it is sampled? Or are the effects only useable on samples?

    This is a very cool video !! kinda makes a person want to go out and buy these little things... Nice beat too ... We should do a simplySynth pocket operator short song competition .. then do a live stream review of the songs.. then everyone vote on the Forum, and the winner gets 1 pocket operator .. That could be a fun BoBeats followers challenge .... I would even donate some $$ to help buy the giveaway pocket operator :) anyway .. awesome video as always !!

    Just to understand (cause I'm really attracted by this little piece of engineering): you basically connect to a synth and you record whatever sound you want for each step and then you make a pattern? Is this one of the functionalities?

    Nice video. Been looking at the PO-33, seems like an interesting creative option.
    Recently picked up a PO-20 and PO-32 at an insane discount. I knew they had kung fu, but even so was pleasantly surprised. Far from a perfect product, but they're really fun, easy and creatively stimulating.

      Hey Marc! Agree totally. They all have their obvious limitations but still manages to hook me every time

  • @brianwredfern
    @brianwredfern 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This might be the best pocket operator ever. You can resample from it back into other apps like beatmaker3 when you want to save your work. I am dying to get one, while my circuit can play back samples there's nothing like a real hardware sampler for harvesting samples and at this tiny size it can get in and sample things that are impossible to record with a large sized sampler like the mpc live.

    • @brianwredfern
      @brianwredfern 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I want the po35 also but the po32 is kind of problematic cause I use ipad rather than mac so I have no way to run the desktop plugin to edit drums.

    As always fantastic video bo. I find that when I sample the sample comes in lower than the sounds on the ko itself. It’s it the cable I’m using? I’m just using aux cable and plugging into various items and turning the volume up but not to the max. Any tips?

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure why this is. I have not encountered it. Maybe check Jakob Haq in depth review if he mentions it. I think there is a link in the description to his video.

    great review but what i really want to know is when you start with, lets say the hi-hat and then throw some fx on the pattern and then later add some sounds to that pattern... with the new sounds get the same effect or will only the hi-hat show the effects and the rest play normal?

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fx applies to the entire pattern. All tracks. Volume/tuning/filter/trim is per sound and can be sequenced per step

  • @jthorpe4droid

    Cool video, my personal favourite is the PO-20, but I have the speak and do use it for random recording different sounds like my cats.

  • @dillipphunbar7924
    @dillipphunbar7924 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I just have the PO-12 but I think it is really good and really cheap. Thinking about the 20 for the sounds and functions mentioned here. Also, want to get a budget sampler (primarily for vocal/spoken monologues) and can't decide between the KO or the SPEAK. Is there another sampler out there for the same price that's worth considering?

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The BASTL MicroGranny 2.5 is real cool but a little bit more expensive I think

    • @PaulMadddox
      @PaulMadddox 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The MG is great but being monophonic makes it quite limiting I think. I would get a KO above a MG any day.

    • @alanc6752
      @alanc6752 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The speak records voice like a vocoder, robot like, never 100% natural. The KO just records it like a sound so its a perfect reproduction if thats important. Speak has more sample time than a KO. I have both.

    I purchased a PO-33 about 7 months ago. But a few days ago, for no apparent reason, it stopped turning on. I found him with a completely dead screen and couldn't resuscitate him. I did everything that is written on the manufacturer's website, but it did not give any results. I began to study this issue and it turned out that this is a common problem faced by po owners, it just stops turning on for no apparent reason. As far as I understand there is some error in the design or program. I wrote to the support service of teenage engineering, to which they replied to me that they could not replace my tool and could not repair it. They sent me a list of components so that I could order them and repair them myself. This is strange. Because absolutely nothing happened to PO, it just lay idle for a few days, and stopped working. If even the specialists of teenage engineering can't fix this flaw (judging by how often PO owners face this problem), why do they offer to fix it for me on their own? Then they stopped replying to my messages. I was very disappointed. I paid $ 90 for a piece that didn't even work for half a year. I was refused replacement, technical support, and no response at all. And the output sound of this thing is really shitty.

    To me this is one of these gadgets one can justify if you use it on only one song ever.
    I do question for how long this is real fun. For a student low on cash it can last a while I guess. But if you can afford more or less what you desire, to me it wears out pretty quickly.
    Not saying these are bad tools, they are actually very nice in the right hands (just like the OP-1).
    To wrap it up, I believe with some gear like you have you don't need this. Just sequence the synths you have, MatrixBrute, Basstation2, Sub37 and Digitakt. Since you're sampling your own synths the Digitakt might even (am pretty sure) give you more options without even having to buy and get used to the K.O.
    Do you need it, no it might even be contra productive. If it is a review of the unit, I get it.
