I have Movie Collector, so I rank all the films I own. I have 40 that are ten stars and The Road Warrior is one of them. I'm glad you liked it even if you weren't blown away. I think most people who see Fury Road first are underwhelmed by the originals (I think that's true of most forms of entertainment). I like Beyond Thunderdome but I know some people don't. If you like Mel Gibson's take on the character, you might find it interesting. Maybe you can compare it to Terminator 3 or another third outing of a franchise.
Mad Max was more of a personal revenge movie that has a cult classic feel to it. Mad Max 2 is high fueled apocalypse car movie. Both are fun but give completely different vibes.
Mad Max is superior to MM2 for me, I could rewatch MM over and over literally daily, but MM2 I find stupid and almost boring in parts. Sure the budget is there for MM2 when it wasn't for MM and there are some STELLAR scenes that eclipse most other action films made since it. Both have been released in 4K HDR recently and I found the technical presentation of MM2 to be lacking more times than MM as well. Maybe I need to watch them back-to-back to really evaluate which I prefer so I can't put it down to just being in a different mood/frame of mind on different days.
I like the Mad Max 2 (The Road Warrior) more than the first film.
