The Count of Monte Cristo is a great story in need of an editor. He spends literally 12 pages telling us how a couple is dressed at the Theater. The first part is great though.

I just bought the movie & bought animal farm i'll buy 1984 the book later it's $16.00 on i books the movie was $15.00 the content will be worth it 2 show later on however starting to think i would be better off pirating this stuff especially since the movie came out over 40 years ago it makes no logical sense movies used to go down in price now they go up

Book was better, but this was one of the few books that was very similar in story, tone, overall feel to the movie.

He isn't realy innocent as he is broke and sad at the rnd pf the movie. Also it was due to a hung jury why he got off. He is still pretty fucked.

The book is much much better than the movie, deeper characters, more lessons, more exploration. The movie is good but it feels so rushed compared to the book

Litterally just read and watched part 1 for the first time TODAY! I have to admit that the book is way better than the movie, and it’s my first time actually reading a book for fun rather than a project, so that says something. Although the movie is good in its own right

Book without doubt is the best of all the movies. For me the 1950s version is best. It is very British brought the idea of Gas attacks which happened in WW1.

Read an early 6 books version, with book 3 missing, went at last online to find that book, I can't read that style anymore.

Glad you liked the book better-it's such great read. There is a Carrie 2 ('The Rage'), a film sequel and there's a remake of the original, with Chloe Grace Moretz playing 'Carrie', but they're both a bit 'Meh' !! x

The book is my all time favorite novel! In my opinion, the movie is the best adaptation, as it comes closest to capturing the spirit of the book, even if it isn’t a perfect representation of the actual text.

Great video, I did enjoy the first two movies (never saw BotFA) but didn't care for the ammount of changes they made especially in the second. I will admit I enjoyed how explored the mystery of the necromancer storyline and Radagast was funny. Out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on Guillermo Del Toro's plans for the Hobbit?

Both the novel and the movie are disorienting. King's main two gripes are: 1. In the movie, Wendy is a scream queen but hardly a final girl; 2. In the book, Jack is a layered character. I wouldn't necessarily call him good but he has redeeming qualities. The movie fucks these characters up. Stephen King writes character studies, not slutty thrillers. And Kubrick fucked up the two main characters. That's the primary issue. The film itself follows similar beats to the novel... except for the ending. But it's really Kubrick's mucking up of the characters that sticks in King's crawl.

Fun comparison! I agree about the tempo of the book kicking in at the third act. PD James’s religiosity kinda put me off, but that’s an exception in regards to her entire library. I totally agree about the direction, editing and cinematography (I’m a giant fanboy of DP Lubezki). What struck me about reading the novel after maybe 30+ viewings of the film is that I ultimately think that overall it’s a story of one man’s spiritual redemption. In the book, Theo literally arrives at a Christian dogma - in the film, more of a humanist ethos of love and service (closer to where Frankl landed in “Man’s search for meaning”). I’ll take the film over the book, because I’m more interested in exploring contemporary dystopian themes that mirror our current collective experiences than anything that even smells like a religious version of “hope” (that’s just me😊). Watched the movie in theaters and loved it. I've seen it a dozen times since then, and I've had the book for 8-9 years and never read it. So I've been on a huge reading binge lately and started it christmas eve and just finished it Jan 5. I was just left upset and empty. The last chapter not even being about glass REALLY upset me, it shouldve filled the 2 week gap after the trial and the next chapter, not as the finale of the book. And the completely empty ending for glass and every reader. I understood a big part if it was getting his anstadt rifle back, but the brutal revenge on Fitzgerald was what everyone wanted and expected, real or not. Kiowa throwing a line about loose ends just made it worse

In the book, Moss could have killed Chigurh. He had him dead to rights in the motel room. If Moss wasn't such a massive constant F-up, he could have taken the money and never been found. He took Chigurh's silenced shotgun from him, for F's sake!

If your interested in 2 new very good adaptation the you should chech out the 2024 frensh movie adaptation or the 2024 frensh/Italian tv series. I found the movie to be a lot more fateful to the source material than the 2002 adaptation even though they slso took a lot of liberty with it. The TV series on the other hand its really, really good if you're looking for a more faithful adaptation to the source material in fact I found it to be on par with the 1998 Gérard Depardieu frensh mini series witch is one of my favorite adaptations even with the original characters they introduced. The only thing I didn't like that much in the series was that they race swap 2 or 3 of the characters but it wasn't that big of a deal.

I like McCarthy's writing style cause he doesn't extend the book the same way I do an essay for school. Like he just gets straight to the point, unlike other books where they will spend a whole paragraph talking about some shower thought a character is thinking of.

The movie is the height of what's achievable in the medium. You can't really say that about the book. It's great, but it's not the height of what's achievable in its medium.

I think human beings read into all the minutia and not embrace the fact that this literary masterpiece has been rediscovered over time in a different manifestation. That being said, I personally enjoyed both novels and with an open minded approach embraced “what if”. Lee’s first transcript was rejected by the publisher for whatever reason at the time. Lo and behold Watchman reappears decades later, a great thing. We read to learn and escape, that is really what it’s all about.

I always preferred t1, even as a 4 year old lol. I liked and watched t2, but would actively seek out t1 from anybody who might have it. I, personally, love long movies if theyre doing a good job. T2 felt slow and boring in some areas whereas t1 was always engaging, even to a little 4 year old.

Yep. I am pretty immune to f'ed up. But this got to me. Especially because the attitudes depicted seem to be becoming more acceptable to many Americans. Trump is mentioned many times as a role model for these guys.

“Who Goes There?” Was also loosely adapted in 1972 as “Horror Express” with Christopher Lee. No masterpiece for sure, but good schlocky fun. Lee finds a creature in the ice in China, and decides to take it home to England on the Transiberian Express for study. Of course, it thaws and gets out and starts killing people on the train. It doesn’t shapeshift, but it can jump from body to body, retaining the memories of its victims. There are various scientists on board, and it seeks to suck out their knowledge and eventually escape in one of its possessed hosts to build a ship to escape Earth.
