  • Zach and Nick talk about some of the mistakes that they have made in the past early in the turkey season. Usually these mistakes are things that we have messed up in the past and if we think about those mistakes before going into the season, our success is usually much better. If not we tend to fall into the same old habits of having to relearn certain lessons.
    Topics Include:
-What we do when birds aren't gobbling.
-Focusing good cover in setups when there isn't much foliage.
-Keeping your composure when things happen fast.
    -Being patient around fresh sign.

Nick that is totally normal I have been hunting turkeys for 23 plus years and still over think it at least 2 times a seasons. Zach is right don't panic you would be surprised just how much time you have 95% of the time he is not going to come in right away after the gobble he going wait on her to come to him like she is supposed to. Just enjoy being in the moment not every one gets to do it!! Good luck with the rest of the turkey tour and be safe!!

I'm heading into season this year with opening day last year in the front of my mind.
Walking a hydro-cut where I've had success in past years. I'm banging on a box call and suddenly I've got a tom losing his mind. He's up on the hardwood ridge with no under-story and no leaf cover. I barrel in there going directly at him. He sees me enter the hardwoods from the hydro-cut, turns and scoots off quickly and quietly.
Turns out that he was running straight at me because it's day one, he hadn't been called to yet, and had just heard his first hot hen (me).

I usually hunt alone...having said that, you guys have a minimum of 2, sometimes up to 4 guys in the hunt. Address the movements, calling, set up, difficulty of doing so..??

To be successful in the turkey woods, you must behave like a fox , travel through the woods like a fox not a human!¡!!!
