- In this episode, Zach, Jake and Nick talk about hunting gobblers right off the roost. They discuss various situations and how they approach them, from roosting the turkey the night before to the final setup and calls they use. Hunting turkeys close to their roost can be a very effective way to hunt and can be a great opportunity to make the most of a morning with limited time to hunt!
Topics Include:
-how we pinpoint roosted gobblers the night before
-planning routes into the setup
-if you should or should not call to a roosted gobbler
-anticipating where the turkeys will fly to off the roost tree
Started turkey hunting this year for the first time. Trying to get some years and experience under my belt before getting my daughter into it . Just wanted to give yall pat on the back for being helpful and sharing y’all’s experience and knowledge thank you Alabama WMA
Listening to this while I'm driving to another state to turkey hunt
Roosted isnt roasted. The old saying is so true. Good stuff guys.
Western hunting i had more success getting close before daylight cuz of the quiet pine needles. Got within 30 yards of one right one a field edge and he flew down to 15 yards
if there's a breeze, do you think it has any weight on what direction the tom flies down?
Possibly in some situations!
If they can see where you are I would recommend not calling either. I called one time when he was on the limb. Stayed in the tree for 2 hours. Gobbling his head off. Eventually flew off to another county.
Great info. Another great podcast Zach, Jake and Nick.
Thanks for watching!
Great episode. I had an action packed, but frustrating, hunt with roosted birds. Mistakes were made. If I watched this episode yesterday it would have been a different story. Keep up the good work.
