I’ve had a CB500X for just over 2 years now and I cannot say anything other than positive things about it, it does exactly what I need a motorcycle to do. I traded in the bike that I had owned and enjoyed for nine years, a 2012 Pan European that he’d taken me all over Europe. The 500X had a big weight on its shoulders. Two years on all I can say is that my annual mileage has doubled, the 500X is a great real World motorcycle. The huge advantage it has over the ST1300 is that it does not have to stay on well surfaced roads, it’s taken me and my camping gear on roads and tracks I could not have imagined using. It’s comfortable, it’s got great weather protection, it’s will go all day every day with no fuss. It’s also quick when I want it to be and handles beautifully. Leaving the best for last it regularly returns over 90 mpg. That’s not 90 mpg riding carefully and economically, that’s 90 mpg chasing my friend on this 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Pro through the Pyrenees (it averaged exactly half, 45 mpg) or 90 mpg taking me and my tent through northern Spain to Portugal and returning via the Picos. It’s a motorcycle that makes motorcycling fun. The NX500 with its upgraded display and new styling will be just as good if not better. If you needed recommendations I’d just say two words, get one!

@@restdayriderI must admit that I took my Voge 300 Rally on a bit of the TET today, a bit that was waterlogged, soggy and very muddy. I must admit I did think at one point I’m glad to be riding this bike today. In anything other than extreme conditions like that the 500X would have been up to the task as well.

Yeah I have owned my 500x for 4 years my wife purchased hers at the same time when I said I am getting a bike we live in oz done 3 tours of Tasmania both bikes have been fantastic.great fuel economy easy on tyres etc.only downside I had to purchase hand guards, centre stand and crash bars and some manufacturers have these already fitted which is very tempting when I need to trade the Honda. Cf moto 800t is in my sites as cruise control would be nice and buying a tiger is not really in my budget if I end up buying two bikes.malcolm and Diana Melbourne

Good review, I owned a 22 CB500X, basically the same bike as NX500, except for the faring's, display, and lighter wheels. As you're aware, its nimble, quick, great for curves, and fun to ride, Some owners show their display with over 240,000 miles on it with minor repairs and good maintenance on the engine. I was getting 80 mpg or 3.5 liter to 100km riding about the same speed in you did in the demo ride. I'm 15.5 stones and be assured the bike will do 110 mph, verified by GPS, a few hundred under the red line. I loved that bike, but I totaled my off road on dirt/gravel road, I'm now on Transalp 750. If you looking to keeping your next bike long term, you can't go wrong with the NX500.
The CS Moto 450 is already available in the American market. KTM has a large share in the company and bike is full of features. The only complaint about the bike that I read is from the off road crowd, which use the clutch continually in the worst terrain. They all say the factory clutch sucks, it's not smooth, it's grabby, they resolved the issue by installing none OEM clutch plates and stronger springs and it's fine. Otherwise, people really like the bike, but it's a new bike so it's dependability and longevity has not been established. Looking forward to you review to the next two bikes.

Great vid, I've been enjoying bikes all of my life and slowly after going through the different stages in wants capabilities both physically and financially i've come down to 2 bikes, a little Suzuki GSX1400 which in nice weather never fails to put a massive grin on my face BUT my go to gem is my Honda CB500x a 2014 model which is a superb machine. It's as happy trundling around town and local lanes as it is at the speed limits along the dual track, relatively simple and well put together with a good dealer and spares back up too. I've owned it for 8 years and have to admit a little while ago i did consider trading it in for something different/ newer but come the end i personally felt happier keeping my old dependable. Lots of really great advice in the comments and obviously your good self and your mates aren't daft , way up the pros and cons and do mega amounts of research and check out basic service items and replacement bits if the bike God forbid toppled over it's' no good having a new bike that's off the road for months when you can't get the bits or the garage can't book you in for a month plus for a needed service stamp in the book! Maybe have a look at a slightly secondhand 500x outgoing model , no VAT depreciation and the possibility of buying a fully loaded trade in at a good price, Sometimes what appears to be the cheapest from the offset doesn't always work out that way . Be safe folks and enjoy your hunting the good old thrill of the chase happy days. I look forward to see how you get on. Enjoy

6 years, 10 countries and 89,000 miles on my CB500X, including an 11,000 miler across the US and TAT. Still smile when i walk in the garage. Zero real problems or mechanical issues, apart from the cush drive bearing in the rear wheel failing at about 50 something thousand miles. Loads of farkles available for the CB, to be added as and when budget allows.
The NX is a CB with newer body styling. So, IMO, you can't go wrong with the NX. OR, you could pick up a used CB for a price that's within your budget. Though i'd suggest a 2019 and up.
The CF moto does have some good reviews. But... can you count on reliability, the way you can with Honda? And be able to find workshops and available parts for CF's?
Plus the added cost of cans of ACF, to fight the reported rust issues on (arguably) lower quality parts Chinese bikes

    • @guyheselton5868
      @guyheselton5868 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Honda's will always have a reasonable residual value whilst i question that of the Chinese models . My experience in the past like you've stated cheap price because of cheap inferior materials used. Will you see the CF and such alike advertised for sale with 150,000 miles on them in the future and still going strong? Most of the Chinese CG and DR engined 125's were junk before there 1st MOT's.

Great vid Charlie. I had a CF Moto 650MT during 2022/23. It took me all around Scotland twice, several journeys around Wales and so many more trip in the midlands. It never skipped a beat. The 450 looks so much value I'll have it as a second bike. I now have a Tracer 7GT and hand on heart the CF Moto quality is right where it needs to be. As the dealer network grows so will the brand and confidence will grow.

I’ve had a 500X for a year now and love it. I found the seat height too tall, so I had it lowered and I had the seat remodelled, so height now is about 800 which allows me to flat foot both feet.

On the same note. I am 80 and bought a 2023 Honda Monkey and put a rear rack on the bike. Could not swing my leg over without hitting the rack. Fix. found wear my butt was and cut the seat foam off the back and tucked in the seat cover and restabled it back on. Problem solved. The seat is to long for one and to short for two. So, it is just me so did what needed to be done. Works great and now have a top box on it.

    Good morning Charlie.
I have a CF Moto (650nk) and I love it, it's as good as anything else on the road, it handles superbly, has all the bits and bobs you could need and has been 100% reliable👍
There is a 650MT and 800MT ( both parallel twins) version that's similar to the one you're looking at. I'm only 5'7"" and honestly I struggled with the 800MT as it was too tall for me as it was, but I think there is a lowering kit possible for the 650+800. The test ride of the 800MT was epic, I loved it, super smooth, comfy, and handled like a dream.
I think when you get astride the one you're looking at, you'll be impressed.

I’m as conflicted as you are between the Honda NX500 and the CFmoto 450MT. In my case I’d like to replace my daily commuter which is a CRF250SM with something a bit more powerful. Not that I need more power as it does well for what I need but if I’m taking a pillion it just doesn’t cope well. I do love the spec on the CFmoto. Only thing I wish is that it came with a more road focused variant having smaller rims and road focused tires. I’ve no aspirations to go off road. I’m also concerned if CFmoto would be as reliable as the Honda. I’ve had the CRF for almost 10 years now and never did it fail me; ride it everyday. Maybe I should wait another year?

Gone right off them, conned me out of £300 for a service on a bike I bought from them and didn't do half of what I paid for. This is after ten years of buying bikes and parts from them. This is the problem with multi franchise places they've pretty much wiped out all the other bike shops in the area so with no local competition they now don't give a fuck about their smaller customers.

Hi Charlie, I seem to remember that I suggested the Honda to you, before you purchased your Himmy and before your visit to the NEC. Take your time with your purchase, but as the owner of two Honda's, one my new 24 plate manual NC750X, the build quality of Honda is good and their engines super reliable and the mileage returned from the 500X is good. In my opinion you can't go wrong with Honda, so check out reviews of the 500, for example, MCN. You should definitely consider a second-hand one with low mileage, ideally from a dealer with a warranty for peace of mind, and save money. Regarding the accessories, I have just fitted many aftermarket parts to my NC rather than the official Honda accessories, at a fraction of the price so you could do that with the NX 500. I know you enjoy your Himmy, so the new one should be considered as well as the CF Moto, which continues to improve and you get a lot for your money, but the resale value on this will be less. Personally what I think is "pay cheap pay twice", I know you like the RE's, have you considered the discounted RE's 650's, as a twin MC will have less vibration than a single. Whatever you choose test ride all of them before buying. 😎

That's a valid point. So, the reason I am looking this time at new, is probably personal choice. At 52 years old I have never bought anything new, ever. No cars, bikes, cameras, sofas, washing machines, lawn mowers ... Nothing of any value. It's all been second hand or more, or gifted. This time, I wanted to save and earn something that was wholly mine. Not sure if that makes any sense, but it's the reason I'm taking my time and doing my research, it's a big thing for me. 😊

In the same situation with my daughter (also a Charlie) just doing her A2. Was torn between the NX500, Himmy and CFMoto. Triumph 400s are a non-starter. She likes the Honda (a lot), but when we went to the Enfield dealer, she couldn't even get it off the side stand. Don't know how they managed to make that seem so heavy when it's the same weight as the Honda. Still waiting for the CF to get to the dealer and have a look in person. I'm leaning towardss the Honda, because that motor's been around forever and has proven itself bulletproof, but holding off pulling the trigger until we've had a go on the 450MT. Mind you, first year bikes and teething troubles....

I feel I will have a very similar experience in a couple of years when I retire and want to choose a bike for touring. Just a thought, would you consider lowering a bike to allow you have better stability? Lowering kits are not expensive. So many people say not to lower a bike but in my experience, we don't push bikes to their limits so its not really an issue. I hope you can make a calculated decision. Honda have a proven pedigree. Also, Lust Racing supply modified "dog bones" which can drop the NX500 suspension and therefore seat height 25mm. You can also raise the fork tubes in the tree clamps slightly. What a dilema.

I always ask myself what do I want the Bike for? Do you want to do longer journeys at slightly higher speeds in more comfort and with the knowledge that the Bike won't let you down. Then go for the NX or CB500x. Do you want to do more off roady type of stuff? Then get the new Himmy. I understand the appeal of the CF but it's cheap for a reason and will the dealerships that are currently selling them still be selling them and parts three years from now? Too many smaller brands get abandoned after a while and dealers change franchises. Just some things to ponder.

I would say, that CF moto is OK...
But VOGE which was mentioned somewhere here... I was in VOGE shop and was looking for VOGE 650 DSX - it´s like modern "remake" of old BMW F60GS. Few days ago I owned BMW F650 GS Dakar (2005) and sold her few days ago, so I had an opportunity to compare it with VOGE :)
The reason, why I sold my BMW Dakar was, that I want more "street" bike. And BMW was too plastic, heavy, old (very expensive spare parts)... I didn´t have joy while riding... Actually I "felt in love" with Triumph Scrambler 400X - because it´s the opposit of plastic heavy bikes, moreover its new, simple, affordable ;)
People are not the same, so everybody of us has own priorities ;)
I would love to buy a HONDA bike (because of japanese reliability), but I want a bike which I will love ;)

I rode a CF Moto 2 years ago, not adventure style, more urban style. The fuelling was awful, especially at lower speed. The sales guy put it down to the ride by wire throttle! My brother was testing and adventure bike at the same time and had the same experience. Hopefully they've ironed it out now as there's a whole lot of bang for your buck.

I can't advise on any of the other bikes in your lineup but I have also owned a CB500x for the last 2 years. I have covered 10,000 miles now without any issues at all. As I don't do any off road riding all my miles were on the road but many miles were on country lanes/back roads where it is absolutely at home. I have also toured around England and Wales from Devon and it does that great as well with 80mph easy on motorways. My bike spec includes, panniers, top box, touring screen, heated grips and many other smaller mods. None of my extras were from the main dealer as they were far too expensive. As the NX500 is basically the same bike you could find less expensive aftermarket kit.

Finding a bike that suits, is such a personal thing that no one can tell you what you should buy. However, I say this. What are three things about Roger that you like and three things you don't. Now with that list in mind apply the same factors to the bikes you test ride. How will you use the next bike? What is it's purpose? What has it got to have? CF Moto 450 MT is a dirt bike. Do you NEED another one? Maybe read the MCN Review of it. What if the new Himalayan's engine feels like the 400 Triumphs. P.S. the term "scrambler" is now misused to describe a style rather than an intended usage. Looks like it was made for the rough stuff but is only fit for the paved road.

The NX was good but I got buffering whereas the Hornet, whilst a naked, was no issue. The engines on both are great (even sewing machine like) but the Hornet felt lighter and quicker to me. "Like a toy" was how I felt about the Hornet compared to my VStrom 650 (Currently on Ebay) Don't think you'll go wrong with the CF though, I was tempted by the CLX700 before I went for the Hornet (I do 1000 miles a month and need the reliability which as yet we don't really know)

BTW, I've never understood why we're allowing Americanisms to slide into our grammar and spelling. What the heck does "price point" confer, that just saying "price" doesn't? Just asking for a friend 😏, but stating that I'll NEVER use that term.

You’ve got loads of mileage left in Roger. Just fit a Hitcocks or Tec Bike Parts performance cam for a 20% increase in power, and a 16 tooth front sprocket, and you should have everything you need for £4-500 tops.

Feel your pain Charlie as I'm in exactly the same position.
Desperate to try the new Himalayan but their being so slow to get them into the dealers.
I've also got my eye on the CF Moto as an alternative.
I think RE are in danger of missing out on sales if they don't pull their finger out.
I want a new bike for this season not next winter.
Personally I'm not buying into this suez canal story. It doesn't add months on to the journey.
    Cracking Vid as always.
    Good luck with your search

It's a real quandary, and I think you're right about RE maybe losing sales.

I think RE's plans got severely hit by the Houtis blocking the Red Sea route of shipping to Europe, including the UK.🧐

Now that you've dwindled it down to 2 bikes I would advise you to check out the servicing and repair costs on both. Although the CF Moto might be cheaper to purchase the servicing maybe alot higher.

Weird to hear someone actually make fun of the Scrambler 400, as all other reviews have been very positive.
