- Join Deeb as he takes and look and gives his random thoughts on the latest version of Twilight 2000, by Free League. Be advised dear watchers. This video exceeds his 20 minute spousal inspired time limit. And despite the camera shake and occasional pause, there are no dog or offspring interruptions.
OK, I get it. Two days ago I started watch your videos and I want to say that this the most bored channel with some geek in main got a new subscriber.
Thanks for subscribing and watching! It's good to know there are people out there that want to listen to me, because my kids sure don't.
@@blandgaming6222 Because "Why we should read books with 300 pages in each just to play two hours?"
Since you seem to like fictional warfare and Martin Grip, Grip pronunced roughly "Greep" means Griffin in English.
The Swedish jet fighter plane J39 Gripen are in fact named "the Griffin" if translated.
Many cities and some companies such as truck manufacturer Scania and Saab uses the Griffin as a symbol here in Sweden.
Anyway thanks for a cool review, never heard of this game but I might order it now.
Cheers from Uppsala Sweden.
Peppermint syrup!? That's not Bland! Or right ;) Excellent overview. Thank you. Semper Fi.
Great review of the system! I appreciate your perspective!
Another great video. This was on our gaming groups radar during HS in the late 80s. We were Army Brats at Fort Bragg and Red Dawn had come out so it made a lot of sense, but we never played. My current gaming group is also mainly vets and one from Europe in our late 40s to mid 50s and so have a better handle on the details of things. We were kickstarters and looking to dive in. Big Modiphius (just played our 1st Achtung! CTHULU session!) as well as Free League. I agree, the Art is lights out. looking to dive in to TW2K after the new year. Suggest watching The Road to get some of the feels.
Look forward to more videos.
My group are all adults 40+ with one or 2 over 50. My 16 year old plays with us occasionally, but he is moving more towards his own group these days. We too were heavily influenced by Red Dawn. I remember running a Red Dawn scenario in which the players played themselves in our home town.
Just recently picked up this *and* WWIII Team Yankee. Very excited for both games!
Just got it on the Summer sale for £22! It is one heavy Box! Love it so far.
If you haven't yet, check out the Urban Warfare boxed set. It is excellent! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Same. The deals where absolutely crazy this time.
Another "bland" sub 😊 Thanks for your effort, just ordered this last week, should be Inbound next week, can´t wait!
I really enjoyed the review, thank you. Can you let me know if the binding on those books is just glue or stitched? I find the glued spines just don't survive repeated play. Cheers.
Its been a year. How about an update???
With kids, wife, and the last two years of a very intense career, I'm afraid I've little free time. When I do get to game, I have my hands full with my Conan and Coriolis campaigns. However, this one, Symbaroum, Vaesen, and now Blade Runner are patiently waiting their turn.
This game scratches several genre itches for me, I'm sold! Whether I'll find anyone else to play it with is another question but I'll be geeking out on all the rad 80s and 90s NATO and Combloc weapons. What scale would the battle mats roughly equate to? They seem to be much too small for "hero" sized 28mm and I'm scared to imagine painting minis smaller than that...
They are approximately 1/100 scale I'd say. Have a look at World War III minis by Battlefront. www.team-yankee.com/
They're cool as heck but you're probably right about game slowdown from using minis too much in a game like this.
I like to depict combat as loud, visceral, confusing, and chaotic. That's hard to portray with an overhead tactical view of the battle.
Thanks for this and your other Free League reviews, Deeb. I've found them both informative and entertaining. I've just invested in Mutant Year Zero, Coriolis and the new Vaesen Kickstarter as I'm looking for new stories outside of 5e. I do remember Twilight 2000 from my youth, although I never played it because it seemed too complicated for me and my friends. - but then we never got past D&D Basic... I appreciated your caution about the content at the end. It is the thing that I was wondering about the most tbh, that and the potential for it to be more of a wargame simulation-some of the community content PDFs of Drivethrurpg look very "weekend warrior-ish", which doesn't interest me as much as picking an interesting, if albeit very challenging, setting to try to create worthwhile stories from. I think, like Paavo, I might sit this one out for a while and try to play the other three games first. If you have any further thoughts after playing this with your friends, please do share; I have subscribed!
Although I am certainly a fan of all Free League games for the most part, you picked 3 of my favorites to start with. Coriolis is my number 1 at the moment. I have run MYZ Genlab Alpha and really enjoyed it. The way each of the MYZ setting tie in with each other yet remain stand alone is brilliant game design. I like the gritty authentic military feel of T2000, but for my end of the world post apocalypse needs, I prefer MYZ. Thanks for watching!
If you are worried about making worthwhile stories from a setting...that's a deficiency in your DM ability. Watch these and see what can be made of this fantastic game: th-cam.com/play/PLfkO0Nts6_byb0YVZJucWDqXKUIZXI5sN.html
nice to see a fellow vet gamer. What was your branch and Mos... i was in from 1988 to 2011 and medically retired. my mos 11-b40V infantry... US Army.
Well first, thanks for your service sir. I spent a brief time in the Marines until I got injured after only a few months. I would never call myself a vet because of the brief time I was in. It definitely had a lasting effect on my life for sure. Can't get into specifics because I'm still working, but I managed to find myself back in public service after I healed up. ;) Cheers and thanks for watching sir.
I have played the original first version a little and remember it being quite cumbersome... Second version, or was it v2.2 which I still own, was much more playable and I remember running many memorable scenarios with it. So I was delighted to hear about Kickstarter of this new version.
Thanks for the video - This new version of Twilight looks mighty interesting!
Too bad though that even if I buy this, I probably don't have the time to play it :/
I have an entire bookcase of RPG's that I do not have time to play. I wish I had all the games I own now when I was 14 with all the time in the world!
@@blandgaming6222 Great review of T2K! Looking forward to playing it 👍✨
What scale of miniatures works best here…1:72?
Why does everyone say you couldn't play civilians in other versions. Versions 2.0 and 2.2 have a whole bunch of civilian career paths
I never played those versions. I only played the first edition, which did not have playable civilian archetypes.
Weren't archetypes but you could life path a civilian in every edition.
Great video! This game is clearly not for me and perhaps niched towards groups that enjoy their crunch? :) .. Anyhoo. Enjoyed the vid! Thanks!
I am not a fan of crunchy systems, and I can tell you that this system is accurate enough to make it feel real, but smooth and simple to keep the narrative moving. I just don't explain rules very well due to the fact that I am very right brained. There are some good videos showing examples of play which show how the rules work. Give those a shot, that is if the setting sounds interesting to you.
Very interesting game I'll likely never play. Enjoyed the review a great deal again! We planned on playing the old version in the nineties and I read a bunch of the books. This would definitely be more enjoyable as a game. Again FL has done a top tier job on creating another cool variation on the year 0 system as well as what seems like an intriguing world. But I think as a genre this isn't for me or my friends.
I would love to hear about your coriolis campaign though! My books should arrive today!
I did review Aram's Secret and discussed how I ran it for my campaign. I think a campaign overview with interviews of my players could be done. 🤔
@@blandgaming6222 Yeah. The Aram's secret review was cool. Did you get into other published adventures since then?
The overview /interview idea sounds really interesting!
M4 was full auto, not 3 round burst. M4 is Vietnam Era before 3 round burst of the A2.
The M4 I had was full auto, but that was a long time ago. 😉 The M16A2 was the first issued to me. It had a 3 round burst, but we rarely used it.
