FINALLY!!... I have 79-78-77-76 ironhead chopper,(if you know what i mean),and have been having starting issues and have timed retimed and timed it again never really knowing if it was timed or not because theres no way to know what year fly wheel was used so never was 100% sure if the timing marks i was using were the correct ones......YOUR TIP ON HOW TO TELL IF ITS TIMED CORRECTLY HAS JUST ELIMINATED A WHOLE LOT OF,(PROBABLY MOSTLY WRONG) GUESS WORK!!......THANK YOU!!!1
not usually. you need smooth flat surfaces for no gasket applications. you don't have that on most used applications. if you have a pressure hole than you really do need gasket or o-ring to seal that gallery. watch my race bike videos if you want to see what you can get away with. tatro
Most people would have just bolted the engine together without checking for freedom of rotation, and then wonder what happened when they try to start the engine and it locks up.
These videos are saving me with my old ironhead.
so much of this mechanical observation can be applied to motor cycle rebuilds generally, deffo worth a watch. ++A

Can the gasket be replaced with liquid gasket ? When to use liquid gasket or real gasket?
