    1972 #110 1000cc ironhead sportster bike rebuild repair street tracker harley by tatro machine
    here we go again. the customer just wants a bike he can ride more than 15 minuets without it breaking and he thinks he wants a street tracker. he just purchased the bike and has been working on it trying to make it reliable but has given up because of all the problems.
    now it is time to see what is wrong and fix it correctly. for fun we might make it to what the customer really wants.
    time to start stripping down the bike until i don't find anymore things to fix. lets see how far i have to go before i start putting it back together again.

    My dad taught me to fit things together, not just tighten the bolts .Glad to see somebody like you continuing doing it the right way because I've seen a lot of shade tree mechanics out there .I do it the right way also. Works good ,and lasts a long time ,,agreed???

    It's nice that you're using the later ironhead swing arm so that you can use disk rear brakes. I hope you talked him into opening the cases so he doesn't have problems after everything is done. I think it's foolish not to seeing you've gone this far, it would be a shame to have something really wrong with the bottom end and not know it until it's to late. Nice work so far and thanks for recording it all. later

      i can use disc brakes with any swingarm or frame. the stock later swingarm just has more room for the bigger tire.
      he does listen to what i recommend.
      he told me what style bikes he likes and what he would like to do and i shot him in the direction to get what he wants. the trick is to come up with a combantion of parts that works as a unit and be reliable. looking good is way down the list for me.

    Tatro, really enjoy all of Your Videos. I am going through My 79 XLS Roadster, As We speak . I feel like I am loosing my mind. One part I am looking for, is a stretched 79-81 my rear Fork/Swingarm. I could almost swear they used to for sale in the old Jammer catalogs. And I have been looking for 3-5* Triple Trees. Did they just stop making these in the last couple years? Also I hcave been looking at forward Controls. It seems like the 99 down XL Forward Controls would fit these old Ironheads with minimal work. as the Front Engine mounts seem very close. Thank You for your time. I know your a busy Man. Stay Safe and thank you for great videos.

    If there's a geometric pattern in the background like that rubber floor mat, the auto-focus on the camera is going to find it absolutely fascinating.

    All that fiddling with the swingarm reminds me of a job I'm dreading, and putting off for another season. Maybe. I really should pull my '85 FXRS apart and inspect. I might be the third owner, and this motorcycle had suffered a lot of neglect and some half-assed hackery. I wish the belt needed replacing, then I'd have a good excuse to get to it.

    Tatro, my 81' IH.....I have a 16" rear wheel. Could i lace a 4-4.25 rim to my hub and not have to mess with my disk brake or sprocket setup ? My thought is it would be cheapest to jist need a rim rather than have to get everything needed for spacing the FL rim and getting the brakes and chain functional using the FL rim. If I keep the same hib, everything is all ready set up....is that correct ?

    you got to tigtin thos so tight they should hold ther position on the fram ,

    • @TatroMachine
      @TatroMachine  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      if that is for the swingarm, no. the correct adjustment is about 3lbs of drag. the swingarm weights more like 5-6lbs.
