  • Today were swapping out some of the failing famertec parts and replacing them with OEM parts.
    Some of the Chinese parts just are not holding up.

    I never thought about a little grease around the filter. I was surprised the bar took up the slack. Big ol bar looks good on it.

      @TheRustyGarageandHomestead  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes sir Mr Kenny I haven't either. That saw handles that bigger bar nicely. The 24" is still faster on it. It took up the slack but it didn't last long. I had to remove a link from it.

      @@TheRustyGarageandHomestead the longer bar must be worse for stretching the chain, do you think?

    • @TheRustyGarageandHomestead
      @TheRustyGarageandHomestead  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @OpenAirAdventure it's possible. I usually have new chains loosen up a bit after about 5 minutes of use but this one was already maxed out. I figured I should change it before it throws it at me.
      I sent you an email Mr Kenny.

    Hello.. love the videos. I have 2 g660 's and yes I put grease on the base of the filter. Drove dirt latemodel race cars and did the same thing. Wood dust is not as bad as dust but it does stop stuff from getting past the base of the filter. I got rid of those hard plastic filters that come with the g saws and bought an aftermarket cheap thing. Filters well but I still put some grease on the bottom. Anyway. Have a great weekend.

      Hey thanks for the feedback. several people have suggested it. I believe it warrants doing it now. I can see how it would work just wasn't sure if many people did that.
      Thanks for stopping by

    I grease around my filters, just something I’ve carried over from my dirt bikes. I’m really liking my max flow filter kits, you get a small performance increase & better filtering. I never had good luck with them aftermarket fuel caps, I always throw an oem in.

      Ill start doing the grease on the filters. I can see it working. I would like to put a maxx air filter on this clone.

    If you take the chain back to your saw shop, they can take a link or 2 out.😉👍

    Those factory farmer tec caps are hit and miss, most of them work fine but they do get some bad batches in. You can try the filter grease but Stihl air filtration SUCKS so no matter what fines get in if you don’t clean the filter 2 times a day. The difference in chain driver count is husqvarna and Stihl using different counts. I like the Carlton chain but I’ve used Oregon EXL/EXJ for a while and it’s my favorite chain overall. The Oregon power cut bars are nice, I run a 32 Oregon power cut .404 on my 038 but the old school power match plus bars were the BEST. I’d also recommend getting oversized dogs so your chain isn’t in the dirt when you set the saw down just don’t get west coast dogs I’d get the pro safety dogs. Great video either way man❤

    Forester bars and chains are another good source for bars and chains. Been greasing air filter bases for 20 plus years,commercially and as a firewood cutter. Just run 115 driver chain it does give a wee bit more bar but not to much to be a issue with adjustment. I bought the NeoTec 660 clone because farmer tec is junk ,Mine runs a 42 inch bar.

    • @TheRustyGarageandHomestead
      @TheRustyGarageandHomestead  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Scott. Ill check out forester. I did end up taking a link out of these chains. Ill also add a thin layer of grease around the air filter. People seem to think it helps. I can see where dust and dirt will stick to the grease. Hopefully this farmertec will hold together. I did put alot of oem parts inside it.

    I know in the 28"
    For husky they recommend 91 link.
    And 92 link for stihl.
    .
    But i find running a 8 tooth sprocket on the husky requires that extra link.
    Unfortunately that requires me to stock bolth 91 and 92 link chains. As we have other saws with about 60cc not 75cc that dont spin the 8T very well.
    .
    Its a special saw configuration i came up with for dealing with an incredibly soft hard wood, red alder.

      @TheRustyGarageandHomestead
      One thing I've learned with the bigger 8T is it takes a lot less slack in The chain to throw it off.
      .
      A 7t .404 is about halfway in between the 2 3/8" sizes. I keep one old 371xp 32" bar rigged that way. With .404 your limited to .063 gage.
      The bigger .085 is not recommended for hand held saw use.

    • @TheRustyGarageandHomestead
      @TheRustyGarageandHomestead  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I honestly think so. For bucking I plan on getting a 32. This 36 is nose heavy.

      So far I love it. Runs & starts great.
      The Chinese plastic is the main thing I don't like. It's cheap plastic. Not the best quality. The throttle linkage has always seemed a bit off but it works.
      It was a fun build
