The Rusty Garage & Homestead
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 4 ก.ค. 2014
On this homestead we do a little bit of everything. We work on vehicles, farm equipment, DIY's, farm & homesteading projects, work with tractors, & welding. We Hunt, Fish, mess with Livestock, Chickens, Fowl and Firewood.
We work with tractors & a dozer. I've wanted to post videos on TH-cam to share my experiences and hopefully teach someone something that would benefit them. Thanks

Picking Blackberries On The Homestead
มุมมอง 994 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Today were preparing the areas with the brush hog to pick wild blackberries. I like to mow around these areas to help us spot snakes easier and keep the chiggers and ticks at bay. These berry's we use around the farm for cobblers, jellies, and jams. These little fruits are my favorite berries grown wild. I have two saws with exhaust mods: a Jonsered 2156 and an Artur Rodak Ported Husqvarna 550XP. The muffler looks amazing. He just opens up a factory exhaust, so there are no problems when refitting. He is on UK eBay as saws_performance. I am not sure my Bark Box on my MS 462 does a lot its pretty load.
Hi Patrick. Thats awesome. Did the mod wake up those two saw's? I bet that Husky is a screamer.
@@TheRustyGarageandHomestead@TheRustyGarageandHomestead I am not sure about the 462; the 550 was hot to start with. With the full port work and exhaust mod, it is a whole horse power quicker. It cuts as well as a 60cc. with a 20'' bar and fuel it is under 13lbs. I try to keep my wood small so I rarely need a big saw.
@@patrickvennard838 Thats awesome. The 562 was a screamer before but this muffler has helped it out even more
@@patrickvennard838you have nice stuff buddy
2511T really is an arborist tree climbing saw. Not reall for ground work.
Hi Jay. I agree that's who mainly uses it. Multiple uses for someone wanting to use one on the ground or have a saw to carry around with them that's lighter and takes up less space.
@@TheRustyGarageandHomestead What i mean is from a safety point of view.
@@jayytee8062 Ah I fully agree. These saws are definitely not as safe as conventional rear handle saws. They are handy because of their size and weight. Different animal though for people who have never ran one.
That chains hanging in there like jack in titanic brotha 😂. Fast saw though!
Yes it was. That's the best analogy I've heard. I'm highly impressed with that electric saw
@TheRustyGarageandHomestead haha loose like Rick James necklaces. 🤣. We have been looking into one of those tiny single handed electric ones for the higher to reach small stuff. No idea about electric though.
@UncleJunkyardwheeling it's very handy to use. If your up high it's easier to talk to your ground crew and not have to start stop the gas powered ones. This one has plenty of power
@@TheRustyGarageandHomestead heck yeah, ide use it for reaching the high branches along trails when 4x4ing
Mike, you and Joe are having too much fun😅. Now be careful with that Husky, don't let her throw ya.
Hahaha Mr Kenny. That saw is very nice. As much as I love my Stihls. I can't wait to own a husky as well
Hahaha, in the tree, it was very LOUD!
Good improvement!
Thank you Mr Ted. It sure helped them out a ton
Great video👍🏻 I also keep a few different thicknesses and materials of gasket sheets around. When you need it, you often NEED it! I'm also a proponent of muffler mods/pipes. If not for the performance increase, letting the heat out will increase the life of the saw.
That's a great point Mr Aaron. Different thickness is very beneficial to have around. I think getting the heat out will prolong the life of them as well
Morning mike! Great video! I agree with you guys that the modded mufflers or covers make I noticeable difference in power.
@@tonysdailygrind2162 Hey Tony. Thank you. They sure sound good too
We always have 3 one on each side and one in the middle, and the middle one gets probably 80% of the use
That's a good idea forsure.
Great video Mike! Appreciate the help and the time To hang out!
Yes sir Mr Joe it was alot of fun.

Nice work Fellas - both saws sound rowdy now 👍👍
Thank you 902
Subbed, super well done video brother. I posted a video of my ghetto ms170 power mods the other day. Turned out well surprisingly.
Hey Thank you JunkyardWheeling. These little saws are great for tossing in a vehicle when trail riding or having at the ready for smaller tasks around the farm. They do a really good job
@TheRustyGarageandHomestead yeah exactly! And with a 16 inch bar you can do most anything with some thinking and skill. A little bit of cheap mods and they run like a 39cc easily.
Agreed. I usually grab this saw when I top a tree just because it's alot lighter to carry around than my other saws.
I feed my local Mennonites with mine
Im sure they can make some good deserts out of them.
if you lift something heavy from a center hook you will bend the top of your bucket. I have repared many of these. if it's heavy, run a SLACK chain from both hooks. it you use a tight chain and it's real heavy, you can pull your hooks off, or bend your bucket
That it true. Just have to use your head when lifting something heavy.
Good tip Mike
Thank you Mr Kenny
Very true!
Thanks Mr Ted
It was adjust with 25:1 it sure you need to tune the carburator to run 40:1. I use my first one 3 years at 25;1 and it run perfect when i switch to 40:1 i had to tune carb now it work the same than when i use 25:1 with 40:1
I do need to tune on this. I think it woukd help it out a ton
I just realized I miss brush hoggin.😅 Even the dog was involved. What a great example of family values ❤
Thank you Mr Kenny. We have a good time out here picken
What’s the jelly maker? 😅
It's an amazing device
Can't wait for the huckleberrys to be ripe here! Wild blackberries are on the other side of state for me but its only about 6 hrs away! Ive got wild strawberries in my yard and they are awesome!
@tedneitzel Hey Mr Ted, wild strawberries would be awesome to ha e around. I don't think I've ever tried a huckleberry before what are they like? Lol a 6 hr drive it worth it
Feller
Howdy Feller
A lil early yet for blackberries up north. Right now it's strawberries and the mackerel are running....
The blackberries here are still coming in strong. were actually on our 3rd harvest of them now. Freezer is getting full. I wish we had more strawberries here i sure like em. Ive never tried Mackerel. Does it taste like any common fish
@@TheRustyGarageandHomestead yeah strawberries are my fav - wife makes a mean strawberry rhubarb pie - mmm. I'd have to say mackerel is an acquired taste - folks smoke them.
@@902hand7 that pie does sound real good. Maybe one day i can try that fish. most fish around here just gets fried.
We have a good crop this year also , I'm at my parents mowing the food plots and fields along with working on fortifying the blueberry patch .
That's awesome. You all have alot of blueberries

@@TheRustyGarageandHomestead I thought u did it on purpose , I thought it was funny
I didn't learn another tool from this video. It looked to me like you didn't really know what you were doing.
Hey Jerry thanks for watching
Hooks are a must!
Yes sir, they make any loader bucket just that much more handy
Cut alot better with the chain snug
Thank you
After a bit of work that saw will ripp!
Yes sir Mr Ted. That was still the 1st tank of fuel running through it. It's got alot of potential
My 3 nozzle boom less boom won't spray out of all 3 sprayer ports at the same time. It will only spray out of two. None of the nozzles are plugged because it's random which two it will spray out of when you turn it on, but all 3 will spray chemical, just not all 3 at the same time. Any thoughts? We've tried a 2.4 and 4.5 gpm motor on it and had the same issue
That is very odd. my 1st thought was a plugged nozzle but you said they are clean and it is random. I would of tried a larger pump like you said but since that didn't fix it. I would look at the hoses supplying the nozzles and make sure they all are clean and possibly not internally collapsing. No reason the 4.5 gpm pump wont supply 3 nozzles.
Love it Mike, keep cuttin'!
Thanks Travis
This is a winner of a video man. Super great explanation and everyone with a tractor needs to see this!

l have already purchased 2 ms 180s for $299au with carry case and spare chain. Beware one struggling dealer refused to provide carry case as "his margins were to thin. I have completed these upgrades for $22 au. l am planning to go to the 18inch bar (rare) on the second chainsaw. 4 years later and l haven't worn out the first one yet after 8 new chains and one new bar. Brilliant machine has completed over 500 hours work. Not quiet the disposable cheap purchase l was expecting. planning
Hi Patrick. These saws the 170's/180's are great little lightweight saw's. As long as you take care of them "and it sounds like you are" these saw's should last a lifetime. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
