The Maxwell House Coffee Pot - Original LP recording

- This LP contains six different themes on the original Maxwell House melody, composed by Wade Denning (1922-2007) that some of us grew up with in the 1960s. All notes from the reverse side of the slipcase are included in this video.
The Maxwell House Percolator commercial with its "percolating" jingle ran in 1964 during the New York World's Fair and was subsequently named "the best musical commercial" at the Cannes Film Festival that same year.
Other commercial campaigns for which Denning composed included Muriel Cigars, the U. S. Steel Hour, Tetley Tea, Mobil Oil, Kinney Shoes, Duncan Hines Cake Mix, Diamond Crystal Salt, Firestone, the Norelco Santa Claus and Campbell Soup.

Thrilling - it's fun trading videos! This Maxwell House soundtrack is an impressive reminder of how much serious work went into creating seemingly disposable culture. And it made me thirsty, too.

Wade Denning is my good friend's father. He was an avid fisherman and the name of his boat was...'The Perculator'.

I loaded my percolator and brought it out here to the backyard. Was sitting here in the swing watching it perk and of course you know what came to mind.
How these things can stick with you for so many years.
To see that this 33 RPM record actually existed and all the information that came with it is very interesting and entertaining to say the least. I might just have to watch and listen to it again while I drink a cup👍🏻

Denning worked with Lloyd Marx in orchestrating his scores for "TED MACK AND THE ORIGINAL AMATEUR HOUR" in the 1960's.

Didn't Maxwell House eventually replace the first cut on the LP (which they used in commercials) with an edited version (down to one minute) of Billy Joe and the Checkmates' "Percolator Twist" around 1963 or 1964 after the latter had become a hit record??
A time when a pound of coffee cost much less than a cup of Starbucks 'Mud' today.
and gasoline/petrol cost 30¢ a gallon. (key in ALT+0162=¢)
Trouble with percolators, is they recycle the coffee through the grounds over and over, increasing the caffeine, acids and oils so that you are attacking your stomach lining greatly. The old soak and cook method used in pioneer days better. but if you need that bubbling sound, down load the percolator tunes form the sixties, and pay on a loop. Ha
OK, I prefer a drip coffee maker, but I don't think any drip coffee maker could inspire music like this. When I was a child, I would often wake up to the percolating sound of my father's coffee being brewed. The coffee was awful, but it sounded great.

Wade Denning? How come the Musician's Union says a guy named "Caleb J. Davie Rowe" composed this??
On Al Hirt's 1961 RCA Victor recording of "Perky", Eric Siday and Wade were credited as the composers.
