I'm still confused as to why a plug outlet commonly found in England and Ireland is doing in the bathroom. Silent Hill is supposed to be in Maine, right?
@@cooltrainervaultboy-39 my guess is that at the time, games didnt really pay too much attention to little details like that, for example cybil bennett is a cop in a town thats like 250 miles from silent hill. konami probably just looked up "western power outlet" and picked one they liked
Travis is my favorite character, after his experience in silent hill origins he still continues his job as a truck driver and drives through silent hill every now and then. Like it's a normal shortcut to take 😅
"Ahh yes I did kill that two-back monster I mentioned, and if you look to the right that's the diner where I fought this butcher guy with a big knife, and if you look to the left, that's the hospital where I fought a bunch of sexy faceless nurses" - Travis to Alex as they pass through Silent Hill.
Greatest horror game franchise ever created imo. I don't think people truly realize how much of an impact the orginal silent Hill series has made over almost two decades now. I absolutely love this game and am still heartbroken that we will never get the proper remake that silent hill 1-4 DESERVES more than any other gaming franchise. Silent hill literally created psychological horror, and changed the typical narrative of horror games by not having to scare the player, by using constant jumpscare tactics but instead changing the environment of the game and constantly causing a sense of dread and distrust with different characters, enemies and alternate realities of the supernatural. The first 2 games took survival horror and flipped it into psychological horror, something that resident evil has always lacked in my honest opinion. Resident evil was mostly heavily survival based and I feel like silent Hill should be praised much more for being an intense psychological survival nightmare of a game 💯👏🏿👏🏿
I think Resident Evil is just as good in the horror department as Silent Hill is, just with a more different approach and flavour. The RE games focused more on elements of survival and dread such as smart ammo management, strategy-based planning and maneuvering and panic whenever a boss appears. The SH series on the other hand had a more intimate, surrealistic and character-driven approach. It was more easier to maneuver around enemies and manage your ammo but the surrealistic nature of the environments as well as the deeper and mature themes are the core of SH.
Both franchises take very different approaches. Like you said, Silent Hill focuses on psychological and supernatural horror, while Resident Evil focuses on sci-fi/bioterrorism, with the horror coming from resource management and evading monsters, rather than killing them. I feel RE's simpler-to-understand approach, coupled with flashier gameplay makes it far more marketable, but I would have loved to see PT change that.
You're right for most part... But just gotta correct you silent hill isn't based in alternate reality, it's a nightmare come to life. Everything happening in Silent Hill is happening in the real world. Silent hill is more like a dream world but instead it's someone's dream brought to our reality.
2014, Hideo Kojima attempted to make Silent Hill game staring Norman Reedus, Guillermo Del Toro and possibly even Mads Mikkelsen, the first video game that's not Metal Gear related since 2003 but Konami cancelled that project and decided that with a few exceptions, they will stop making console games and focus on mobile gaming. Holding some of the most historic video game series in Pachinko Machine Hell.
@@charliechan6892 A game that some say it's bad, others say it's ahead of its time. But despite Kojima being a legendary game director, it's just more proof that he never found that perfect balance between Gameplay and Cinematic in videogames.
I assume 1 has a canon ending since it ties into 3? Well, there’s probably a few variables that could be different. I don’t think Cybil living or dying carries over to 3.
@@brianburkhardt3692 Cybil dies for sure. When you spare her, it opens a scene exactly like the one of Harry finding the baby with his wife. That implies that Cybil would be Heather's mother figure which isn't the case. Harry is a single father
Fabricio Santos Not necessarily. It’s also just a means of showing the cycle repeats once more. The only difference being that Harry is still depressed over his wife’s passing and raises the child on his own.
Yes, but by clues and other things we can know what are the possible true endings, SH 1: Good ending, a producer of the game confirmed that Cybil is dead, so the Good + ending is not possible (Although we do not know if she died in the city). SH 2: The ending in which James dies next to Mary's corpse (jumping into the lake with his car) is possibly the true one, in the other games James is mentioned lost and never found, also a producer of the game mentioned that Mary's corpse is in James' car early in the game. SH 3: The good ending is the most obvious. From here on out it is where everything gets a little more confusing and we really don't know what the real endings are.
Imagine the conversation Travis had when he finally delivered the cargo Boss: Why the hellare you multiple days late? Travis: Oh you know, just explored a haunted town, also explored the town's alternate version in a creepy mirrior world, killed multiple inhuman monsters and prevented the end of the world Boss: Yeah you might need some time off Sorry for bad grammar english is not my first language
The irony of you saying they don't know what they are talking about to then imply those games aren't canon. Guess what, no matter your thoughts, they are canon. Suck it up
"Laura was a brat" I mean... from her perspective, she was in an empty town with only seemingly-delusional & clearly-unstable adults for company? While she villainizes James, that's because she's a literal child with a black/white personality, and I think she was perceptive enough to catch onto how fraught his relationship with Mary was. As for when she locks James in the room: yea, from his perspective, that was a dick move that could've cost him his life. But from her perspective? She's not in the overworld, so it's just a clever escape from stranger danger lol
she was still kinda bratty, calling them names and such and playing pranks on them and making them chase her. if that's not brat for you then congratulations.
@@royery where did I say her behavior isn’t bratty? she’s EIGHT years old, my dude. My point is that I think she’s an interesting depiction of how a child would handle that situation. As I said, from her perspective, the people around her were seemingly unstable & untrustworthy. IMO, it’s worth analyzing why she behaves the way she does as much as with the other characters.
She is like the kid Walter on SH4, maybe she is Mary as a child, or the unborn child of the couple. Don't forget kid Walter protected Eileen to be attack by Walter, that means even a ghost can be real in SH.
The timelines were established after the games or vaguely referenced in game in ways few people would notice. I'm surprised Silent Hill the Arcade isn't included in the timeline, it takes place in the same year as Silent Hill 2. The Little Baroness went missing in 1918, and Silent Hill The Arcade takes place "75 years later." In addition, the spiral staircase area is labeled "19181993", making the year clearer. In Silent Hill Homecoming, the reason why it is set 2007 is because of Adam Shepard's age and birthday. In October, Alex Shepard states in his diary (which can be read in the Silent Hill Wiki) that he plans on escaping from the hospital and hitching a ride to Shepherd's Glen, meaning that it would be impossible for Homecoming to take place in 2008 or else Adam would have been 54 years old. Plus, Nora Holloway's missing poster, which Elle posts in 2007, states she was 15 years old.
@@chaosinmybreath True, but the design of the portable radios at least hint the decade the first three games are set in. For example, Silent Hill 1's radio that Harry carries around looks like a red Sunny SX100 transistor pocket radio which was manufactured in Japan during the 80's.
DBD is trash. The competitive style gameplay takes all the cool horror aspects and chucks them out the window. Cheapens the villains and makes them seem weak and lame
I wonder how an alien-themed Silent Hill game would be like. There are still the same surrealistic nature and psychologic themes but it all happens in a alien spacecraft instead after getting abducted in Silent Hill. The reason why Alessa was born with supernatural powers is because she is actually of alien descent. And this "God" the Order is contacting is actually an alien lifeform. And the town of Silent Hill is a town simulation that these aliens built to gather combat data on how their creations would fare on Earth once they finally invade us. Pretty wacky but idk lmao
I get why they had pyramid head in homecoming, since Alex was the one who ended up actually killing Josh (sort of similar to SH2) but they couldn't have just made his own representation of an executioner? I feel like it's more impactful to keep Pyramid Head in SH2 since it perfectly fits James' situation...adding him to any other game as some universal executioner, even though silent hill is percieved differently by every citizen in the town, seems like the people who make these games after Team Silent are just uninspired But that's just my opinion Also I just miss Team Silent
I think the biggest thing is probably just cause he's so dang iconic! Prolly lazy devs too (those other Homecoming creatures werent the greatest), but best way I can think of to make him fit in both stories is some of the cult pictures/stories. Sort of like how holy books make you imagine someone else's version of the afterlife. It's a long shot, but James and Alex could have both been exposed to things that made them think of a very similar entity. I'm sure more than a few people imagine Satan roughly the same! At the same time, even with the same details, people also imagine it totally different. That being said, I also wish they'd used something else in Homecoming! Any hulking, nasty, tortured soul woulda done.
@@cappedminer369 The difference obvious that redyramid never attaklck and ignore alex because alex in his mind he don't find himself guilty and needed to be punish and the fact the bad ending is where he never forgives and only judge that the red pyramids made exactly what he would be.
Silent Hill 2 artist Masahiro Ito has stated that Pyramid Head was *not* violating those Mannequins. He has stated on multiple occasions that Pyramid Head was actually attempting to tear them apart, as Pyramid Head is actually trying to help James come to terms with what he's done and escape Silent Hill.
The Atmosphere from 2,3 and 4 still give me the chills today. I was only 6 years back in the day. My oldest brother had his room next to mine and allowed me to watch as he plays. I played all the games myself 3 years ago. The feeling never runs out.
Some of the games are ridiculous and don't even follow their own canon. How can Homecoming have Pyramid head if it's James' personal monster? All the monsters are personal to everyone and are the manifestation of their sins or demons. That's why none of the games after The Room are canon.
Mia also how do you explain the fact that everything that happened in silent hill 1 was the result of a cult with gods etc Yet in silent hill 2 the town is presented as just a place where people pay for their sins and each character sees a different version of silent hill? The room wasn’t the issue. Even the first games didn’t stick to their concepts
@@JenFromWebsite The first games did stick to their concepts, though. The events of SH1 twisted the spiritual power that existed around the town which is how SH2 was able to happen the way it did.
@ticc tocc it's pretty simple. Town always had strong spiritual energy. The cult's activities twist that energy and change its properties. Alessa's fears were manifested through the god's power, and now it happens the people who enter the town with terrible sins. Keep in mind that the Japanese believe that when terrible things happen they can imprint on the place they occurred (i.e. The Grudge).
Pyramid Head, was a executioner for the Order. James' Otherworld willed Pyramid Head back into existence, so it would be possible that Alex's Otherworld would also summon him.
No the characters just end up in Silent Hill at different times. It’s all still connected. Travis even gives Alex a lift home at the start of Homecoming. So there ya go
6:50 No, no, no. Alessa did not summon her other half (Cheryl), that was the doing of Dhalia. Dhalia specifically says to the other cult members, "We'll use a spell", reference the spell that convinced Cheryl to demand that her father, Harry take her back to Silent Hill. This was done because the Samael ritual could not be completed as long as Alessa's soul was split in two. Dhalia needed the two halves as one to attempt the ritual a second time. Alessa was trying to keep the two halves separated, so that she could experience a normal childhood as Harry's daughter, as opposed to the abusive treatment she received from Dhalia and the other cult members.
Absolutely right!. In fact, in SH3 is mentioned in Harry's notebook that Cheryl unexplainly insisted him to go there. After that statement we can asumme she was called by the spell that Dhalia used over Alessa to attract Cheryl to the town.
Correct, Alessa always intend to live her life as Cheryl but the torture spell was too much for her even after enduring it resolutely for 7 years. In a strange way, Alessa truly cares about her other half more than herself.
Silent Hill Downpour had one of the best stories in the series. The meaning was also compounded with every ending you could get. Sadly, you could tell the studio was seriously strapped on resources to make the game they wanted.
I think Downpour was done quite well, and while a different style than tradition SH, it definitely felt much more up to date. Controls/fighting was solid and I liked the open world aspects, which felt much more realistic than the typical boring streets in past games. Enemy design wasn't so great, though I did like those shadow enemies. Side quests were fun, and some of the scenery was cool, like that little lair area where you have to light the black candles. The story was a little iffy: even though I beat it like 3 times, I did not realize UNTIL WATCHING THIS VIDEO that Murphy intentionally got himself into prison. I was under the impression that he went a little crazy after the death of his kid, which is why he stole the cop car. Now it makes so much more sense.
@@raitobasakura The plot in Downpour isn't the greatest, no arguments there. However, the gameplay wasn't bad and the environment and atmosphere was good... except for some of the alternate world chase scenes, which felt and looked kinda tacky. Some of the areas you go to had some of the best atmosphere out of any games I ever played. The area where you are at that tourist overlook site at the water falls before the cave is particularly well done, and I also liked the central building too with the big painting of Samael. I also really liked running around the urban neighborhoods, and the docks, and the side quests like the ribbon quest actually had a profound context. All that stuff was great, but then you had the whole boogeyman concept, which I found confusing and nothing more than reintroducing a Pyramid Head-type character. So I don't disagree about plot, but gameplay-wise it was alright.
Angela had killed her dad that same day, and James had killed his wife that same week. The newspaper before Angela's bossfight with Ideal Father had today's date, and Laura's letter has Mary congratulating Laura for her birthday last week.
@LosMSR not really. By "real" I mean an actual person. Little Walter is part of Walter's ghost that was innocent and wanted to be with his mom. Walter split his personality (unclear if this was intentional) because he needed to keep killing without remorse but he wasn't a sociopath or anything of the sort. Maria was made by James as a replacement and punishment, being a mix of his desires to be with her, have sex and be punished. Laura is just some kid that was friends with Mary.
All the games have canon endings, but some things in Origins and Homecoming kind of mess up the story a bit... Regardless, one of the best survival horror series out there (I'm still mourning the loss of Silent Hills, that game would have been awesome)
I only count as canonical the 1-4 Silent Hill games, because they were made by the original creators Team Silent, so the other games were created by people who didn't understand the story. For example: Origins contradicts many things about Silent Hill 1 also Homecoming.
I don't even remember them actually defining a time period either. I only remember that Silent Hill 3 takes place 17 years after 1 but we never find out what year Silent Hill 1 takes place.
Yeah, I don’t dislike Origins or Homecoming (though I do like Origins more) but they’re extended canon if anything. Or like, what if scenarios. Downpour is even further down on my list. More like fan fiction.
The main thing to take out of Homecoming is that by that point, Silent Hill as a town is going downhill. The Order is becoming much more undisciplined and radical, and is expanding to nearby communities just to keep its ranks up, since they pretty much killed off Silent Hill's population. There's a high manpower cost when running an apocalyptic death cult, you know :| . Downpour was definitely detached from all of the other games in terms of plot, but it was really more of a proof of concept that they could modernize the set pieces and open world layout of the town. They were probably hoping to get the clear to produce a new mainline entry to the series.
Interesting video, this is probably the most likely line of events for the series, but I personally prefer to think that the series has 3 separate time lines: The Original timeline: This one includes Origins, 1, 3, Homecoming and lastly Downpour. The reason why is because from what I could gather, there's no mention of the events from SH2 or 4 in these games, while in Homecoming, we see Travis, Cybil is mentioned, and you can find a document that mentions Douglas from SH3, and in Downpour you can find 2 pictures from SHH, the welcoming sign from Shepherd's Glen, and the Shepherd family house. The Sunderland Timeline: This one consists of 2&4, and the only reason why is because we see Walter's grave in SH2 and he's mentioned in a newspaper. Also there's a character in 4 called Sunderland and he mentions that he lost a son in Silent Hill. The Shattered timeline: Only SHSM, no need to explain why, right?
This is a very good video, but I'm going to point out you forgot to mention "Born From a Wish", which is a prologue to Silent Hill 2 in the Director's Cut version which tells a bit of Maria's story before James enters the town.
He did mention "Born from a Wish" when he introduces Maria. There's not much point in discussing it in the timeline because Maria is NOT a real person, and is a manifestation of Mary in James' mind. What you see in BFAW is the entire existence of Maria, as she was literally born from a wish.
A small part of me is holding out hope that someday, somehow, we'll eventually get the original unaltered versions of _Silent Hill 2, 3_ and _The Room_ re-released. I don't care how long it takes... I just have to believe that it's somehow possible. Yeah, I know the source code is lost and all that jazz... but Square supposedly lost the source code for _Final Fantasy VIII,_ and not only did we get that on the PS3 store years ago, but we even got a remaster a few months ago. So I have to imagine a lost source code is not necessarily a death-sentence when it comes to re-releases.
@@thotslayer9914 Well sure, of course I could. But I'd still like to see the series get the proper respect it deserves and an actual official re-release.
@@MaximumMadnessStixon If they did something like this then theyd probably try to make it HD. Of they do this then I hope they give it to a team who knows what they are doing with less constrocting time restraints and a leader who doesnt plan on butchering the original VA.
At 9:34, when you say James killed his wife 3 years ago, that's not actually correct. One of the evidences that shows that is when he meets Laura at the Lakeview Hotel and Laura tells James she had become friends with Mary for tha past year. Notice the "past year" is in direct contrast with James affirmation that Mary died 3 years ago. The truth is that Mary didn't die 3 years ago, but probably just 3 days ago. After Mary came home to stay with James (before she died from her terminal illness), he killed his wife. Then, according to game developer Masahiro Ito, he put Mary's body is his car's backseat and drove to Silent Hill. At this point James is in so much shock and trauma for what he had done he represses all memories of killing Mary in such a way that still according to Ito he cannot even see her corpse in the car. So James only thinks she died 3 years ago, but her corpse is still fresh in his car's backseat.
Because it is wrong. Alessa wasn't burn in the ritual, she manifested a Poltergeist due to stress during the ritual, because she knew if the ritual as completed, she would give birth to a demon (it is in a newspaper clip in the hospital on the original japanese game). I suggest watching "the real silent Hill experience" by twin perfect, here on TH-cam, they go really in depth of the lore.
@@theflatasssociety1133 I disagree because its completely wrong and will encourage the people who think they know about silent hill just cause they watch TH-cam videos instead of playing the games to keep spouting misinformation and dumb theories that are completely wrong. @@theflatasssociety1133 one doesn't exist, the only canon timeline is silent hill 1 taking place before 2, 3, and 4. Team silent intentionally didn't put dates to those original games nor did they put in anything to state one taking place before or after another
In my restless dreams, I see that town. Silent Hill. You promised me you'd take me there again someday. But you never did. Well, I'm alone there now... In our 'special place'... Waiting for you...
Silent Hill two is one of the best survival horror games of all time. The atmosphere, characters, puzzles and controls are just amazing. All the manifestations make sense
Silent hill Origins, 1 and 3 are connected. Silent hill 2 and 4 are also connected (Frank from SH 4 is James Sunderland's father). Homecoming has some relation to Silent hill 1 (Wheeler mentions about a brahms police girl who disappeared ¿could it be cybil? and of course, The Order) and Downpour... idk, i don't see any relation with the other games at all. Probably because i didn't played it so i don't know the story of that game.
You can tell where the quality and story started to fall off in this series when the stories for 4, homecoming, and downpour can each be summed up in a few sentences. These games are still far more enjoyable to me than most big budget triple A games though.
What are you talking about? Murphy is going threw hell after his son was killed. He lost his marriage leaving him no one left because he was an orphan. He was willing to do anything to get revenge for his son. That revenge ended up hurting Murphy and others
You don't need to kill Cybil. You can get aglaophatis (idk if i spelled it right and idc) on the floor on the hospital, you just need a little bit. You throw the liquid on Cybil once she drops her gun if I remember right once she gets close enough. This causes the opening scene to have Cybil with Harry on the baby scene at the cemetery.
Which implies that James killed Mary and took her to Silent Hill instantly after the killing and not years later. James is such a derranged charakter - the role model of a broken being.
James didn’t kill his wife three years ago, “she died three years ago” is metaphorical as it’s when she became ill/the illness began to affect James’ relationship with her. It’s there and to him, she died. This is why Pyramid Head is seen having “fun time” with one of the monsters as it represents his sexual desires, as does Maria. A healthy “Mary” lookalike who is free from illness. Mary’s body is actually in the car at the start of the game. James had only killed her the day before. This is why the little girl says she knows Mary, as she had met her in the Hospital within the last year.
I would love to see a Silent Hill type game revolving around the book, "the Gulag Archipelago" written from true, real life stories of psychological torture.
Yup, the same Masahiro Ito confirmed it as a canon. Plus, all the clues given by Team Silent, leads you to believe that's the authentic on including the reference in SH4.
I do give him praise for doing his best to try and connect everything and make a decent timeline out of all the games, but every game after 4 is such a mess and contradict so many things in the previous games that its basicly a lost cause. As far as Im concerned only SH 1-4 exist.
Alyssa was not burned as part of any ritual. This was something made up for the movie. Watch TRSHE for a more accurate analysis of what actually happened. Also, Origins is not cannon. The only games that are cannon are 1 -4. The others weren't made by Team Silent; therefore, are irrelevant to the storyline.
@AJ ZATHRACK You missed the point. Silent Hill 1 - 4 were made by Konami; therefore, they followed the rules of the series. The games/movies that came afterwords were made by different companies and did their own thing. I mean, Pyramid Head in Homecoming? Come on!
@Xeph Xen You won't find that anywhere in Silent Hill 1 - 4. The fire was caused by her psychic abilities blowing up the boiler when she was trying to mentally endure the ritual.
I always thought it was Origins - 1976 1 - 1983 2 - 1993 3 - 2000 Up until here it's all pretty much confirmed, however, I start to differ in the next ones 4 - 2004 Downpour - 2004 I also consider Homecoming to not be part of the regular timeline since it has more in common with the movies than the other games Movie Timeline 1st Movie - 2006 Homecoming - 2008 2nd Movie - 2012 Another timeline Shattered Memories - 2009
On Downpour we found out that Alex is dead, that created a doubt if he really hurt Josh, or like Jacob's ladder, his isolation at the hospital created the idea that he needs to be blame for that. PH never lead him to any place unlike James.
Fun Fact: The superintendent in The Room is actually James Sunderland's father, Frank Sunderland. Bonus Fact: Turns out Walter is actually mentioned in Silent Hill 2 in a paper that James finds.
I don’t know what the people’s beef is with Silent Hill Origins. It’s a pretty great game and it fits perfectly with the lore on Alessa. (And yes, I played almost all of the games in this series including the older ones if anyone is going to bring that up.)
It really doesn't fit. The house burning was implied as an accident in SH 1 while Origins showed Dahlia intentionally setting the house ablaze. Plus the portrayal of Alessa doesn't make sense.
The silent hill 1 is so dense and detailed yet the story of Silent Hill 2 was just so much more captivating imo. Never been so emotionally immersed in a game like I was with SH2.

I can imagine Mads Mikkelsen as the main bad guy in a Silent Hill game, would have been so good
Whoa I didn't know that not a single one of this games had a canon ending. Except the dog ending that one is canon no matter what anyone says
Well except for Origins. Sure it gives you the option of a bad ending, but since it is a prequel to the very first game, the leave ending is canon.

She's also a ghost. Though Im not sure she realises it.
She is like the kid Walter on SH4, maybe she is Mary as a child, or the unborn child of the couple. Don't forget kid Walter protected Eileen to be attack by Walter, that means even a ghost can be real in SH.
Short answer: Silent Hill does not have an official timeline and is left ambiguous by the original games.
So Silent Hill 3 isnt an official game in the series?
Yeah, once that horrendous game, BOOK OF MEMORIES, added a timeline it killed it for me..And I've been a fan since SH2..
@@LightStreak567 timelines were introduced post silent hill 4, the original team did not reference any dates whatsoever.
@@chaosinmybreath True, but the design of the portable radios at least hint the decade the first three games are set in. For example, Silent Hill 1's radio that Harry carries around looks like a red Sunny SX100 transistor pocket radio which was manufactured in Japan during the 80's.

Of course the canon endings are the alien ones. Everyone knows that.
I feel like it's more impactful to keep Pyramid Head in SH2 since it perfectly fits James' situation...adding him to any other game as some universal executioner, even though silent hill is percieved differently by every citizen in the town, seems like the people who make these games after Team Silent are just uninspired
But that's just my opinion
Also I just miss Team Silent

Some of the games are ridiculous and don't even follow their own canon. How can Homecoming have Pyramid head if it's James' personal monster? All the monsters are personal to everyone and are the manifestation of their sins or demons. That's why none of the games after The Room are canon.
They did that cuz they knew he was a fan favorite monster
Mia also how do you explain the fact that everything that happened in silent hill 1 was the result of a cult with gods etc
Yet in silent hill 2 the town is presented as just a place where people pay for their sins and each character sees a different version of silent hill?

I think Silent Hill 2 does take place after 1 but some people think that SH2 is a reboot since SH1 was a PS1 game.
Silent hill 2 has a news paper article referring to silent hill 4 antagonist.
No the characters just end up in Silent Hill at different times. It’s all still connected. Travis even gives Alex a lift home at the start of Homecoming. So there ya go
6:50
No, no, no.
Lol the game series is a complete fuckery so a stable ending I guess wouldn’t ever make sense..love this xD
Now it makes so much more sense.
......no, Downpour just copy and paste the same Story of James Sunderland. Just changing elements of the plot, but it's the same.
Downpour was just a tasteless modders attempt at Silent Hill 2.
@@raitobasakura no it isn't. its different, its not that uninspired.

@@LosMSR nope. Laura is an 100% real person
@@arthurdossantos6826 Isn't little Walter also real by the power of SH like Maria?
@LosMSR not really. By "real" I mean an actual person. Little Walter is part of Walter's ghost that was innocent and wanted to be with his mom. Walter split his personality (unclear if this was intentional) because he needed to keep killing without remorse but he wasn't a sociopath or anything of the sort.
Maria was made by James as a replacement and punishment, being a mix of his desires to be with her, have sex and be punished.
Laura is just some kid that was friends with Mary.
I think the entire series is about what people with mental disorders (PTSD, depression etc.) go through in their own head.
if you played sh2 enough times you know the canon end is "in the water", the all game suggests james's suicide
In SH4 James was gonna comes as ghost but they cut it because of not having time.
That was the original plan, but SH4 told us that this indeed happened, like Downpour tell us the fate of Alex.

I'm kinda here because of that, actually.
I only count as canonical the 1-4 Silent Hill games, because they were made by the original creators Team Silent, so the other games were created by people who didn't understand the story.
For example: Origins contradicts many things about Silent Hill 1 also Homecoming.
Yup, I do the same
I don't even remember them actually defining a time period either. I only remember that Silent Hill 3 takes place 17 years after 1 but we never find out what year Silent Hill 1 takes place.
Absolutely
"they look like monsters to you?" (LOL changed my accidental typo from Mosters)
Mosters 😂😂😂
Such mostrosity

Interesting video, this is probably the most likely line of events for the series, but I personally prefer to think that the series has 3 separate time lines:
The Original timeline:
This one includes Origins, 1, 3, Homecoming and lastly Downpour.
The Sunderland Timeline:
This one consists of 2&4, and the only reason why is because we see Walter's grave in SH2 and he's mentioned in a newspaper.
Also there's a character in 4 called Sunderland and he mentions that he lost a son in Silent Hill.
The Shattered timeline:
Only SHSM, no need to explain why, right?
Thank you, Leaderboard! This video will give me all the lore I need without actually playing the game!
0:35 You could have put some radio static sounds while moving the dial.

Yup, the same Masahiro Ito confirmed it as a canon. Plus, all the clues given by Team Silent, leads you to believe that's the authentic on including the reference in SH4.
Yeah, because has a link with SH4, the same way with Homecoming and Downpour.
Jamie Johnson What boiler blowing up? That's not even remotely mentioned anywhere in any game.
@@rinofang Its mentioned in a news article in Silent Hill 1. The boiler blew up causing a fire to the house and other houses in the area.
Jamie Johnson Can you point me the place where this newspaper is? I've played the game countless times and never noticed it, honestly.
I always thought it was
Origins - 1976
1 - 1983
2 - 1993
3 - 2000
Up until here it's all pretty much confirmed, however, I start to differ in the next ones
4 - 2004
Downpour - 2004
I also consider Homecoming to not be part of the regular timeline since it has more in common with the movies than the other games
Movie Timeline
1st Movie - 2006
Homecoming - 2008
2nd Movie - 2012
Another timeline
Shattered Memories - 2009
On Downpour we found out that Alex is dead, that created a doubt if he really hurt Josh, or like Jacob's ladder, his isolation at the hospital created the idea that he needs to be blame for that. PH never lead him to any place unlike James.
Excellent video! Very well done and put together, as a SH fan I really enjoyed it
Thank's Glad you enjoyed!
Fun Fact: The superintendent in The Room is actually James Sunderland's father, Frank Sunderland.
Bonus Fact: Turns out Walter is actually mentioned in Silent Hill 2 in a paper that James finds.
RIP P.T
"He runs into a pyramid headed monster having its way with mannequin like creatures"
Very poor choice of words
Not really, that's exactly what's happening
@@mr.sentient7344 wait...i didnt notice that before
I don’t know what the people’s beef is with Silent Hill Origins. It’s a pretty great game and it fits perfectly with the lore on Alessa. (And yes, I played almost all of the games in this series including the older ones if anyone is going to bring that up.)
Most probably didn't and base their opinion on Origins on what other say. I actually have to say that yes it fits in the lore
It really doesn't fit. The house burning was implied as an accident in SH 1 while Origins showed Dahlia intentionally setting the house ablaze. Plus the portrayal of Alessa doesn't make sense.
i really needed this video... thnks mate
Silent Hill 3 is my favorite and I love the second movie more than the first.
It was disappointing Downpour didn't have a new game plus.
Great Video! i love these
I see now it all makes sense.
The silent hill 1 is so dense and detailed yet the story of Silent Hill 2 was just so much more captivating imo. Never been so emotionally immersed in a game like I was with SH2.
My Personal take: AAHAHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
It took a lot of time and thought. Thank you for listening.
Loves this synopsis you put together. Straight and to the point thank you
