As a non-Christian, I'm of the opinion that Nero needed a great deal of early therapy. The evidence stemming from his desire for grandeur, his artistic arrogance, and his almost child-like rages indicate to me the possibility that he was a very insecure man with access to enough power to inflict his own pain upon everyone else.
If he were alive today he'd be stuck in an asylum until he could hug a bunny without throttling it.

In year 6 our teacher told us we could write an essay on any hobbies we had and most kids picked things like gymnastics but my only interest at the time was history, (still kinda is) so I decided to do it on Nero and Jesus Christ, when you look into it the stuff he did was disgusting but I do believe a lot of it had to do with his mother aggripinia the younger and I think he had childhood trauma. I was like 10 though so I’d have to look back into it 😅

Actually, many historians believe that a lot of the supposed "Wicked deeds" of Nero,Caligula and the like, were probably just rumors spread by their enemies. Nero, in particular, probably wasn't near as bad as is often stated.

@TheGemgem154 Actually, they were holidays that pre-existed. At least, Christmas was. The first Christian Roman Emperor chose to put Christmas on the date it is now because there was already a Roman holiday there and he felt it would make the transition to Christianity easier for his citizens to accept. So yeah, we wouldn't have the holidays, but the dates were pretty much chosen according to whichever Roman holiday they matched best.

Yeah this hilarious skit was actually very spot on the accurate Nero really had a fetish for torturing Christians using them as candles in his Royal garden. if you think that’s bad enough Christians weren’t the only ones persecuted Jews were often persecuted by the Romans to both these two religions at the time were seen as insults. The Romans so anybody who worshiped one god both Christians and Jews were seen as insults to their pagan ways. The name Nero got in persecuting Christians will always stick with him forever is still being debated whether or not in the book of revelations John describes the end of the world and warns of a beast with two horns some say he’s referring to Nero some say he’s referring to watching out for The son of Satan. Basically Nero was so evil to the Christians that he earned the nickname called the Antichrist and he is an Antichrist. This was probably one of the first persecutions of Christianity under the Roman empire they were perfect scapegoats especially when the fires of Rome happened and Nero though evidence shows that he did try to help his people he still went out of his way to build a palace for himself bigger stretching in the places where homes were lost. So he uses the Christians as a scapegoat and with all the sick twisted brutal executions and lavishing enjoyments he showed to the people of Rome. By then many Romans were disgusted by that behavior were actually feeling really bad for the Christian’s in the end.

@@whinfpproductions94 Uh, first of all, why did you single out my comment (from eleven years ago, in fact) to rant about Christians? All I said was that it was cruel for Nero to do that, and it only made people more sympathetic to the Christians. Just because someone has a set of beliefs you don't agree with doesn't mean they deserve death.
Also, the Roman Empire you admire so much was hardly a bastion of inclusivity and tolerance. Trans people (like Emperor Elagabalus) were seen as deviant and depraved. Women were treated as property. Minority groups and conquered peoples were oppressed and denied even basic rights. Slavery was rampant and a major part of the Roman economy. Social reformers like the Gracchi brothers were murdered for daring to suggest land redistribution. Also, lots and lots of imperialism. Maybe think twice about glorifying a culture that was rife with the things you claim to hate.

@@redbayly I’m sorry it’s just I’m a bisexual man who’s had struggles with religious homophobia and was watching this video to revel in my anger. And it’s a scary time for queer people and I was just wanting someone to blame, someone to shout at. I apologize. I’m really sorry. I was raised a Christian. And I only stopped being a Christian just recently when I learned about how homophobic the Bible actually is. I knew the Old Testament was and I thought all the homophobic passages in Paul were interpolations by later scribes.
But then I learned of one explicitly homophobic passage about queer men not being able to inherit the kingdom of heaven. I found no evidence of it being an interpolation. So I angrily left the faith. I do like what Jesus said. Love thy neighbor, so onto others what you would want others would do onto you, blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth, I love all that. But the homophobia that’s inside the Bible I can’t look past.
Greece and Rome were places where men-loving-men were accepted. And yes there were problems. But it was still better for me than even today. I know it’s selfish, but isn’t that human nature? And I think since Greco-Roman paganism didn’t really have a single central scripture that couldn’t be challenged like Christianity has the Bible, I think it would have progressed overtime without Christianity. I also have autism, ADHD, and Bipolar so I’m a little emotionally immature and prone to explosive outbursts.
I’m really sorry. I don’t hate all Christians. Episcopalians and progressive Lutherans are cool. And I like Pope Francis and more progressive pro-LGBT Catholics. It’s the right-wing Evangelicals and TradCaths I was fantasizing about being made into candles or being put into lion’s dens. I’m prone to violent fantasies probably from being raised by an abusive single mother. They were originally directed towards her because I was powerless to stop her abuse. Then they became directed at anyone/anything that makes me angry/scared. I need to go to a therapist to work on it. I’m sorry that this is my venting. I apologize to you. And I apologize to the victims of Nero, wherever they are, for me disrespecting them.

    • @redbayly

@@whinfpproductions94 I can definitely see where you are coming from and why ancient Greece and Rome would be appealing to you. I am deeply sorry that you have had to go through so much pain in your life. It is perfectly natural to want to vent your frustrations, though it is definitely advisable to know whom you are venting to rather than springing it on random commenters on the internet. I admit, I was extremely shocked at the suddenness of it, though I do not hold it against you as I have done similar things in the past (I, myself, have ADHD and some problems with impulse control).
I am pleased to know that you do not hate all Christians and that it was merely something said in an emotional moment. I am a Christian, myself, and, though I come from a fairly traditional upbringing, I cannot find it in my heart or my conscience to hate people for things like sexual orientation or gender identity or the like. I just don't feel like it is my place or my right to judge others like that. In all honesty, I think the fundamentalist radicals who go around screaming at people who fall short of their expectations for "Christian behavior" need to check their own life choices before making judgement calls on other people.
Thank you for responding and giving me a clearer picture of things from your perspective. I truly wish you only happiness, safety, and peace in your life.
