Mike this is awesome. The part where you said you wanted to do something after retirement other than “being on a board, or consulting” really spoke to me. I think that might be why I’m so attracted tot he idea of long distance cruising… Good luck in your endeavors.
@MrAbletospeak I did not have the money for a Nordhavn neither, but last year we took the decision. Bought ourselves a 43 year old Defever 49, sold everything we had and embarked on our journey. We are now cruising the Med, loving every minute of it and just like Mike, I have set myself to getting to know each and every single part of the boat, as well as handling of the boat, navigation, weather etc. Keeps me busy 30 hours per day, it almost seems like work...............without the pressure. You only have one life, so if this is what you dream of, just do it, but do it in a boat you can afford, you won't regret it.
Would like to come see the boat if you ever come to NZ even if I can view just from the pier only, would love to spend a day or two on board but only a pipe dream
Great Video and great trip! Coming down from Gibraltar you could have made a "small turn" and have a stop at Porto Santo Island or Madeira Island, where I am from. Next time.
So did Mike buy the 96 that was available for a while on Yachtworld? ;) The motorcycle story was nice, it should have been tied to the story how he got the captain's license. I'm looking forward to win the lottery this weekend and buy URSA. But how long would it take to become a captain ;)
Smaller Nordhavns have circumnavigated the world on numerous occasions already. Any one of them is adequately capable of completing this trip with some planning. ;)
You should check out MV DIRONA a Nordhavn 52 which has been basically at sea for last the 5/6 years, from the States to Oz to South Africa across the Atlantic to the Caribbean, then back to Europe before returning to the States April last (2021). Dirona is crewed only by husband & wife team James and Jennifer Hamilton. Well worth a watch.
Why does someone buy a motor yacht in the EU for 3.xx million, drive it to the US and then want to sell it straight back? SPIRIT OF ULYSSES is for sale on the Nordhavn web side for $3,195,000.
he was thinking about getting a bigger one. He said it in one of the videos on this channel which document the voyage. It is also in the description of this video
The description already explains this, but it's not exactly rare for someone to buy a boat, such as a Nordhavn, and then decide that they would like something a bit more substantial...like another LARGER Nordhavn. There are several cases of Nordhavn owners doing precisely that here on this very youtube channel. ;)

When he gets a new boat, do not forget to make a new Video about his next voyage if he concurs of course.

Wish I could live your life. Especially on a Norhavn.

Kiwis CAN fly, but they can also dream of becoming an Albatross.. and drifting with the currents and wind. Enjoy life Mike
new partner for the retirement
Why are you selling the boat now?
Hi Gary - The owner has decided to move up to a larger Nordhavn. Possibly something with crews quarters.
Lekker man lekker 🇿🇦
