      It's simple, in a way. We are all human and we have all at some point in our lives experienced such a loss.

  • @johnvasi

    One of Angelina’s talents is her ability to connect with her audience. She does that immediately and personally. So many times, we feel that personal connection-Angelina is singing not to an audience, but to each of us as individuals. And when there’s a universal theme, like the death of a loved one, we all share her feelings.
    But like everything Angelina writes, she wants us to look on the bright side. In Shield, she thanks her family for guiding and protecting her. In Million Miles, she comforts us-we’re never alone. In Seventh Heaven, which you haven’t watched yet, she tells us with very accessible old school jazz to rise past inevitable adversity. There are similar messages of self-empowerment in Good in Goodbyes (a tour de force) and Diamond. Her outlook and her message are as beautiful as her music.

    • @AleksReacts
      @AleksReacts  วันที่ผ่านมา

      This theme cannot but touch one's heart, as it is universal or rather as @poolhallshark said universal for anyone who's over a certain age. Well, I am over a certain age and it did what it seems to do to us all - brings tears of joy and sorrow mixed into one.
      I will not spoil the "surprise" of my reaction to the Shield. I do hope you will see it a month or two from now thanks to Pontus and Alan on @wrappedinawarmblanket, but I will mention that we came to it during the recording in live conversation and that like with all the others I had no prior knowledge of the song at all.
      I find it very interesting that only you and @andyschnell58 both listed Good in Goodbyes and Diamond. No one else even mentioned these songs. Are both written by Angelina?

    "This song is dedicated to anyone who has lost a loved one. I wrote this song thinking about all the great memories I had with my grandpa and how much it hurts to lose someone. I hope this song finds a place in your heart, as it comes straight from mine." -Angelina Jordan
    This Angelina original holds a very special place in the hearts of fans. Most of us have experienced a loss like this at some point, and Angelina's approach to dealing with sorrow and pain while remembering the beautiful and great experiences with the departed loved one is very helpful to many. Angelina dedicated it to her grandfather, but it is also meant to comfort everyone in the same situation.
    This black and white studio recording is great - as are the other two (lyric version and music video) she released around the same time - but I feel like the pain and sorrow were still too close to her, and overshadow the intended consolation (released short before and after her 15th bday). It's different with the evolved version that Angelina performed in Kongsberg and Kurbadhagen in 2022 - there's still sadness, but the comfort now outweighs it th-cam.com/video/fyBUtStF65w/w-d-xo.html It's also interesting because she talks a little bit about the meaning of the song before she starts singing.
    btw the Angels who recomended this video should have warned you that it takes some tissues to get thru this reaction.
    I don't remember if you have already reacted to Angelina's NGT videos - here is an excerpt of what judge Mia Gundersen said to Angelina after the finale:
    "Angelina you've been given a genuine gift that shows up at this young age. You have been given the ability to convey emotions to other people and this can be overwhelming for an eight year old. But this gift is yours and it's a rare thing because today not many people can do it. They sing, and there are a lot of people who can sing very well, but your strength is that you have a completely unique ability to communicate. This you should take good care of. This you should know, inside of you, that this is something huge - because this is a gift from the Universe."
    This song is the best proof that she took good care of this special gift indeed.

    • @AleksReacts
      @AleksReacts  วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      I love how her words say the same thing the song does so clearly. I was probably warned about "tissues", but I don't think I even have tissues. This was unexpected and unusual for me. I have been warned before and I could still control myself enough to never resort to actually wiping my tears. There's a first time for everything it seems...
      The comment from Mia Gundersen is accurate, though I have not heard it before. There are still many performances by Angelina that I am yet to see. Thank you as well for sharing the Kongsberg version, I will be sure to hear it.

  • @pjg58x
    @pjg58x วันที่ผ่านมา +6

    Several of the lines in the songs are based on things that her grandfather said to her such as “I’ll be watching you from the moon and see everything you do.” We believe the opening line refers to when she was a little girl and she would go out with her grandfather to help homeless people on the streets.

    • @AleksReacts
      @AleksReacts  วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      Someone else mentioned the moon reference, it is rather a lovely thing to say to your grandchild as I believe that is how her hope and belief her grandad is with her was instilled into her as a child. Getting to know her through her songs is really an honor.

    Beautiful reaction to the song which allowed me to properly grieve the loss of 5 loved ones, over a 3.5 year period just prior to the song being released. I truly believe "Million Miles" will always be one of Angelina's most popular songs.
    Angelina now has a jazzy version of "Bad Valentine" posted on Toby Gad's topic channel. It is now my favorite version.

      Thank you kindly! I do try to refrain myself from overly pronounced emotions, but truth be told I could not do that afterward recording it. They poured out in private. How someone so young understands all the nuances of this kind of loss is beyond me, but she really did. It is a beautiful song indeed.
      I'll be sure to listen to the new version Bad Valentine, just not sure if that will be a reaction or not. I did write it up anyway. Who knows how I'll feel about it...

    Thank you for your moving reaction. Yes, that's what's so interesting about AJ, beyond her unique and phenomenal voice, is that she's not just another singer, but an artist in her own right, capable from an early age of conceiving lyrics and music for moving or catchy songs, with this astonishing awareness for a young person that life is this mix of highs and lows, joys and sorrows.

    Thank you Aleks for this. 👍
    👣This has moved people around the world, and by that fullfilled Angelina`s dream and wish for this song, as she dedecated it to everyone who went, or goes through the pain and longing after loss of dear ones. It truely IS remarcable for a 14 yo to write this, and perform this. It is a rather spesial song to so meny of us.
    As I understand; - there where some havy moments for her in studio, as this was recorded. Understandably so👣
    I think your analyze was right on point, as Angelina herself wanted to specifically point out the aspect of being "never alone" after losing someone.
    At her 2022 conserts she made this very clear as she introduced her live version of this song. Two years later,and she was abel to put even more of her feelings emotion into her performance of this song.
    Make sure you get to listen to at least one of those performances she presented in her Norway conserts that years, as she was 16. By your self,
    or even for another reaction video. We`d love that 🤗

    Angelina’s nationality, she is part of the Asian community.
    Million Miles
    Million Miles was written by AJ for her Step Grandfather. Angelina’s nationality is Norwegian, she speaks Norwegian, Japanese, Iranian, and English. Her maternal grandfather was Japanese, and her grandmother is Iranian, and was a child prodigy in ART and Poetry. Her father is Swedish. You can see all of these nationalities in her looks. She the most unique being in the world as she sings in Japanese! we get another example of this wonderful child. composer that has written a number of songs, she also was the youngest writer to publish a book in Norway, she plays the keyboard/piano, guitar, flute, and violin. The stars aligned when AJ was born, there has never, in my 75 years, been anyone with such an impact on music.

    Hi Aleks, Angelina is already demonstrating here her strength and her affinity for life. The song is melancholy but it is truly a song of hope as you mentioned. Angelina always looks stored the future and the positive. It has been reflected in her EP which is a song of empowerment. And in her recent concert in LA, she spoke about a very difficult experience she has gone through emotionally, but she ultimately ends up grateful and thanking the individual who hurt her as she realizes they have taught her something in the time they had. Angelina's strength will guide her through life hopefully and is a reflection on the upbringing she has had and the love around her. Wishing you peace as well.

    Thanks a lot for a very beautiful reaction to this song. No need to apologize for not analyzing the song; your emotional reaction is more than enough analysis on its own. Of course a lot of it can be attributed to your own memories, but reacting emotionally is what a talented singer will and can do to you. If her delivery had been less perfect, it would have taken you out of your feels I think.
    I SO often see that a song text and the arrangement is MEANT to make you feel in a particular way, but then the performance of it doesn't deliver. In Angelina's case there is no such thing as not delivering. Maybe her main attribute it the way she emotes with her voice, how she time and time again makes you FEEL. With this particular performance it's more or less impossible not to be engaged with the lyrics and delivery, as most of us, at least past a certain age, have experienced something similar.
    Angelina lost both her grandfathers in a relatively short time, and she was very strongly connected to both of them, maybe most so to her maternal grandfather, to whom this song was written when she was 13. This performance was recorded when she was 14 years old, and it was her first original after she signed with Republic Records the same year. On your own time, I encourage you to watch the music video to the song as well. That being said, I am glad that you reacted to the studio recording. THAT way I know that it is her voice, her delivery and the lyrics that made you feel, and not the visuals. I feel like I could have gone on for an hour, but I guess most has already been said by the other commenters at this point. I am yet again a little late to the "party". We have been celebrating my Mother-in-law 🙂 Seeing that you have another reaction to Angelina is always a highlight of the day for me. I am very happy that you have stumbled across Angelina, I am already almost 11 years in with her. In DEEP. And not sure if I will ever come out 😁🤣 Take care, Aleks! Much love and respect from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥

      Thank you so much, Sharkster! This time I am glad to see you are late to the "party" as you sure have a valid reason. Not much of a party on a day of celebration, though, so I'll repeat my best wishes to your Mother-in-law.
      I did try to bring some analysis toward the end, when I could compose myself somewhat, but it's not my "best work" from that point of view. On the other hand, I do not think it's possible to react using reason only to this song. You are right, Angelina did tug at the right heart-strings and that is the actual point of this song. As you probably noticed, it seems AJ and I share a similar outlook leaning towards the positive even in grief, and so far her personality comes through the most in her own songs. Logically. Thank you again, as an AJ reaction is the highlight of your day, reading a comment from you is often something that brightens my day (even at night, like now 😂) . Love and respect, to you as well my Norwegian friend! ❤❤❤

    She lost both grandfathers. Million Miles was for her mother's father who is Japanese and Mery's husband. A few years back she dedicated "You Were Always on My Mind" to her father's father who I believe is Swedish); she sits with a photo of her grandfather on the screen while Ivan Mendez gently strums his guitar...she almost makes it though! th-cam.com/video/dd8r7c-4-ks/w-d-xo.html BTW, in Million Miles her grandfather once told her he will be watching her from the moon which she included in the lyrics.

I have lost my Mom, Dad, Grandparents and Brother but this song written by this caring and sweet young lady may give us sadness but also hope and comfort that our loved ones are still with us in our hearts, always. Sometime when you get a chance, please check out her Live version of this at her Norway concert in Kongsberg a couple years ago filmed by NRK TV, Norway...she changed it up a bit, she is 16 and it is stunning Live. Oh, Carl I am so lucky to have my parents still with me. I do not think "sorry for your loss" conveys my feelings correctly, so I will try to translate a saying as directly/literally from Serbian as possible "I feel compassion with you for your loss". I hope it carries the weight of the feelings I mean to express for you. ❤❤❤
      Like Angelina, I always believed our loved ones stay with us as long as we live and in a way "watch over us". I am glad to hear that her song brings you that comfort and hope. Thank you also for the Kongsberg version. I will be sure to listen to it as well.

    With all good writers the song is the story. With exceptional performers they can bring that story to life in such a way that it can touch your soul. I look at video as a different medium in music because we are clearly combining the audible, now with a visual track that has its own artistic impact if done correctly. Given that perspective the video in its own right can tell an equally compelling story that can have its own impact on emotions. When the time comes for Lara Fabian's "Llora", as amazing as her various live performances of that song are nothing will stir the level of emotions, anger and despair that the video will convey in my opinion. I always prefer live performances but there are some videos that are so powerful in their artistry and cinematography that they must also be appreciated. In Angelina's video, the blue shirt scene at the end, for anyone who has kept a lock of a loved ones hair, a piece of jewelry or in this case a favorite piece of clothing, the ending is so touching. You can be a poet or a painter or you can be both. I watched your reaction again when I got home, (I should never had started it on my lunch break at work) Aleks, this is my favorite of all your postings and Angelina thank you for blessing us with your talent that moves us in these exact ways.

      Thank you again! Yes, this one is not a great choice to watch at the office. I have not watched the official video yet, but to this day I have my grandad's shirt (white Indian cotton shirt with blue stripes) and I used to wear it through my teen years. I will watch it though, just as always I'll take a break and then dive back in. This song is both painful and quite beautiful.
