This is one of my all time favorite movies and favorite war movie of all time. It has so many hidden meanings and if you ever been in army, you understand this movie perfectly. This movie is all about hyping up to action, which never comes. Just like in militarty usually, its just reality. They did so good job with this movie
I mean, the book (which the film is based on and is banned in some schools) is a memoir of Anthony Swofford's (real person) actual time in the Marines. He's a professor of creative writing at W. Virginia University.
@@tengille This banning of books. What a ridiculous piece of stupid policy...In Europe, there were last banned books during nacism and communism. No American dream for us. Oh yes, we banned Mein Kampf but not for nacism but for being utterly lame written. (Actually, you can buy it somewhere but with preface from some good historian). And this religious stupidity like in US? We had it in 16th century when this guy was walking through country and burnt books of protestantism and pope critic :D C´mon, vote as you are in 21th century.
Realistic right up to the point where they're firing a machine gun over their heads. If people think we take risks like this in training they've been watching too many movies, but I will say that live fire exercises do happen with machine gun fire going over the top of you, but way over the top, no way you could get hit like this
You need to remember what year this movie takes place in, In this day and age, it def wont fly, but back then this was quite normal according to the older vets
Quiting is one of the worst mistakes in the military, in my opinion quitting can represent almost complete dishonor and just shows the military is not for that person.
You know Swofford is a real person, and his book (Jarhead), is a memoir of his time in the military, right? I'm sure Hollywood dramatizes things. Of course they do. A film is meant to sell tickets, not be 100% accurate. Go read the book if you want realism, not Hollywood. Tony Stark doesn't exist either.
What a good soldier! Listening to his commanding officer even after getting shot.

"You've all been taught that thou shalt not kill but hear this, fuck that shit."
Because your corrupt evil goverment tells you so
Legendary line
Full metal jacket for generation X . Realistic look on life in us military , unlike most American war films.

@@tengille it was not meant to be against you, though
It's pretty amazing to watch a .30 cal go off (at 3:12), and the rifle doesn't move, lol.

No one would put a joker like that on a gun in a live fire exercise. He was out of position.
They're shooting live rounds 20 feet above your head from an elevated height.. you could do jumping jacks and not get hit.

10 years in the army tought me 3 things, always have respect, always listen to instructions, and the most important, if you need help, ask for it

Why didnt he just move to his right and get out?
He panicked. Got in his own head.
