With injuries at both tackle spots, and Juice....the 49ers defense will have to win this game. So multiple turnovers/pick sixes are needed ..have to go with that.
Garropolos ability to sell the throw on the real runs, as well as the WRs ability to run that backside slant is another reason it makes it easier for the running backs to cut backside.
Been watching a lot of Brett Kollmann videos, so I suppose it's no wonder that you also showed up in my feed. That was a great analysis of SF's run attack. I look forward to further videos of yours as I now dive into your back catalogue
Great breakdown. A good o-line is everything. You can't throw the ball if you can't protect the QB. You can't run the ball if you can't open up lanes. You can't set up the pass if you can't run, and vice versa.
This OL zone blocking calls for perfect synchronization..like a well rehearsed chorus line. Hopefully Brunskill and whoever ever takes over at FB can get into the flow without any missed assignments.
I run this scheme on my high school team and it’s very hard to get at the start and communication is mandatory but once you get it nearly anyone can run it effectively
Good Video. The game this weekend will be the first real matchup for K-Shan vs Mcvay. The first 4 didn't count because the Niners didn't have Jimmy in 3 of those games, and the one he did play, the starters sat for LAR. SF has the best run game, best defense in the NFC, and best play caller along with underrated Jimmy G. Niners over Rams 30-20......
The zone blocking scheme was actually a Bob McKittrick concept from the Bill Walsh era. It's what Mike Shanahan used for the base of his running game style. It's been a running style people have always hated to defend for a long time now. It's a very effective tool when used with a west coast/balanced type offense. It's won the old 49ers 5 Superbowls, and John Elway got 2 with it.
@@sigmaway5717 I hope you're right ,don't get me wrong. Were talking two all pro players and a top 10 pick here though. These guys protect our qb ,who's coming off an acl injury. Plugging in rookies and practice squad players at key positions is hard, especially three.
RG3's Rookie Of The Year campaign should have gone to Mike and Kyle Shanahan. They took a good athlete who never ran anything but a spread offense, and little talent as a QB and made him into Rookie Of The Year with a subpar team. They installed the Offense RG3 ran, which certainly wasn't a Pro Offense (passing). They deserve as much credit as RG3 himself.
Shanahan's outside zone run coupled with the counter run and play-action passes is actually very similar to what Tom Osborne and the Nebraska Cornhuskers did back in the middle- to late- 90's. In addition to the before mentioned, Nebraska also added inside power runs, fullback traps and the speed option.
Alex, Please talk about how the 49ers legacy of strong run, play action and ball control passes originated with Bill Walsh. I played Center at Stanford 79 to 82 (right after Walsh left Stanford for the niners Head Coach Job) and we used many of the same concepts with Elway as QB and Darrin Nelson, Dotterer, Vincent White and others as dual purpose backs often rushing and catching for over 100 yds each per game. You might remember a coach named Siefert. He was our OC after Bill left. The full back (Now often playing from an H back position in Shotgun) is invaluable for the success of the run/pass. Particularly when you have a guy like Juschek who can block, run the ball and CATCH!. I'd love it you could break down some old Montana / Steve Young film on gap run, kickout, trap, counter and how it segwayed into play action pass. We did not call it zone read in those days but we did 2 man "Combo" blocks where the playside lineman would slide up to the linebacker as the weakside lineman picked up his guy. Lots of similarities. It uses angles and favors very athletic linemen with excellent feet. I'm willing to bet you a cheeseburger that 90% of the Niners O-Line played basketball &/or Lacrosse in High School. (= great athlete, coordination and good feet) Thanks for your good work. I'll keep watching!
AlexRollinsNFL You broke that down like a Soldier breaks down an M-16!! Absolutely Outstanding Brother! Looking forward to your film session on San Francisco vs Carolina Week 8. Luke Kuechly, whom I have the utmost respect for as a professional preparer and a perennial all-pro linebacker, looked flummoxed, confused and neutralized. Am I seeing this correctly? Are we THAT GOOD??
Nice break down 😁 The Niners are a serious problem. It is arguably the most deceptive offense in the league. I observed defenders biting, tricked and forgetting 😁 The safeties are usually being lured away from routes and the linebackers are over pursuing the run. Some of the best play action in the league is the outcome. I also noticed how Jimmy G is adapting systematically. He's gaining confidence on playing the role. It is really the formations that hurt defenses. What to expect is not expected.
do one on the rams game kyle without 2 tackles and his fullback aka offenseive weapon and he ran it 41 times cuz jimmy was successful on third down or do the defense and the pure domination.
I love this type of stuff. I am really worried about Sunday because of Juice-Check and Mcglinchey being out. Hopefully Shannahan had a clever backup plan.
Tomlinson 's initial assignamnet by alignment was likely 53 not 51, but 51 overpusued and got into Tomlinsons zone allowing him to block both of them. Kittle was initially looking to wash 51 down, the C gap defender, but you can see him redirect once he notices the flow and turn back out to seal off the safety/corner.
Alex, give the Bill Walsh influence and his preference for the agile lineman, do you see some of these plays reminiscent of the West Coast offense? Regardless, the intentional play selection like chess pieces moves down the board reminds of the great Niner team.
"Shanahan should run out the clock and go to halftime with a lead and regroup" 2 minutes later " Jimmy G and Kyle should push into FG territory and get some points!" Booger really bothers me. He speaks the obvious with no insight and never knows whats going on
So if the 49ers game plan is to bait opposing defenses into over committing on the run, wouldn't an effective counter be to maintain linebacker discipline to keep them squared up and either blitz the corners from the edge or bring the safeties down? I ask as someone who knows a little bit about football, but is no means an expert.
It’s actually pretty easy to beat, this is basic high school football. Defense needs to learn to no over pursue and fill the gaps. Fight across your blocker. That’s about it. Do that and all the gimmicks end with the same results.
Janco Ice Rockets I wouldn’t say overrated. He took over a team going nowhere and made them relevant. He fails to adjust to a ever evolving league, though. Couple that with Gurley just average now (with an offense predicated around him), it kinda puts your season in a standstill. Not a rams fan, either. 9er fan.
Ummm...it didn't do well today vs the Rams.... Niners' won..but their offense was up/down with no real momentum being found anywhere through 4 quarters!
Thank you for pointing out that KS hasn’t had the same personnel advantage guys like Peyton Reid and Mcvay have had.Mcvay is great and all but Shanahan is clearly better and a special offensive mind in the league

What is your boldest prediction for 49ers-Rams this week?
Jared Goff gets hit 10+ times
Tevin Colman and Matt Brieda both rush for over 200 yards each!?!..
With injuries at both tackle spots, and Juice....the 49ers defense will have to win this game. So multiple turnovers/pick sixes are needed ..have to go with that.
Were not desperate we just continue playing how we play and win. We still a more talented teams then the rams at all three phases.
AlexRollinsNFL Not gonna to expect a W as Mike and juice are injured, really challenging for jimmy G as no run game
Garropolos ability to sell the throw on the real runs, as well as the WRs ability to run that backside slant is another reason it makes it easier for the running backs to cut backside.
If only he could read coverage

Brunskill played TE for a couple seasons in College. Making him very agile for a big man. If Kyle trusts him so do I!
I run this scheme on my high school team and it’s very hard to get at the start and communication is mandatory but once you get it nearly anyone can run it effectively
Does it work with any linemen?

Great video! It'll be interesting to see what the 49ers will do without KJ there to pick up those key blocks.
Such good insight/content man. Keep it up Alex!!!!!

Dude, awesome job! Very insightful
Well aight, I’m in. Subbed.
Gonna slice up some Lambcakes this weekend, the dominance begins!!
Yeah dice them to little lambcakes
Coming back to this and seeing mark barron in a Steelers uniform hurts so much
I'm worried now....gonna be hard to zone block now. No Juice, no Staley, no McGlinchey. Big problem .
Next man up but the good thing they be back!!! Weatherspoon and Staley be back soon then the rest will follow to come back before our big stretch
David James...have faith in our coach.
I´m pretty sure that Shanahan hasn´t built his system around 1 or 2 players. We´ll be able to run from the 12 personnel.

Donte Pettis Finally steps up to the plate and has a big game. Going for 100 yards and a TD.
I really hope so. He's my go to in Madden. Gotta make those open catches in real life dante!
That drop is probably killing him
Pettis made some big catches today! Some nice athletic leaps to grab the rock
Julio coBretti Was inches from getting two feet in for a TD. Slightly better throw and he has that TD.
@@michaellay259 yes! So close! Pettis the menace had to go up high for that one too. He was making some obj type catches today.

DOPE ANALYSIS
Maybe everyone will believe in the niners after they run for 200 yards on the rams tomorrow
No... we'll just get some excuses about so-and-so Rams player(s) was injured and that's why the niners were able to dominate.
I think you do a great job!!!
A follow-up on your previous video about Mayfield would be awesome. That man was running for his life against the Niner defense. What went wrong?
