I lived on the Westbank from 1988-1992. I was stationed at the Naval Support Activity. Love NOLA and definitely remember the Schegmans. I think I spelled that right. Love your videos! Thanks
NSA Algiers has been decommissioned and is now “Federal City”. There still seems to be the Naval Officers housing area, but you can freely drive around through the rest of the old base. And “Schwegmann’s” 😄
@@504RoadTrips yeah I should have known there was a w in there the way it's pronounced. I live in Atlanta and I need to come down and take a cruise around the city and I would love to see that old base because I lived in that housing for close to five years.
This video is a few years old. The whole area along DeGaulle is torn up now for a drainage project. There’s a lot of new retail in what used to be empty lots. The old Village Aurora shopping center has been redone. I’m going to have to make another run through there once the drainage project is complete. It’s looking better than it has in a long time. But as with just about anything within the city limits of New Orleans, the once nice neighborhoods along there have gone downhill and are looking pretty run down.

@@scottyg5403 I’ll take a ride over there and shoot some video next weekend.
@@504RoadTrips That would be great! Thank you
I have the footage, and it'll be live on 7/18.
The amount of decay since the early 70's is staggering. That used to be a really nice area of New Orleans.
