My dad and I met him once at adelaide oval before the play had started for the day. What a great guy he was, not much different from how he was in front of the camera. Dad even asked to see his keys (that were famous for testing the pitch) joking around and he grabbed them out of his pocket and said sorry, these are only the keys to my rental car 😂
I miss the old commentary of Ch9. It felt like you were just in the middle of mates having a chat and calling the cricket. Nothing awkward, raw laughs and proper cricket opinions. Richie and Tony are forever commentary immortals. R.I.P
I had the great honour to see Tony Greig bat for Sussex from the very beginning of his career in England. First ever ball dispatched to the boundary. His mild mannered nature, his courtesy and his personal courage was a joy to behold and an example to young players everywhere. Always gave time to sign autographs, always gave time to talk and smile with young fans. A hero of the Green. Thank you Tony. Others could learn from his example.
These commentators made 90s cricket epic... now we have subcontinent commentators with aaaaa ooooo that’s a good shot and “telling scores all time” type commentators...
Here in Australia we are sick to death of the parochial commentary from Michael Slater. In fact I wish the ABC radio commentary was the main TV commentary.
@@valueinvestor77 hes literally in.this. video genius, I dong see the hate for him and Heals commentating, its much worsr these.days and slater.isnt even. Commentating ahaha
the cricket telecasts of 90s had its special aura to it due to Tony greig and Richie benaud I still remember him saying "the people are dancing in the aisles" during sachins desert storm innings of 1997 sharjah cup vs Australia...the telecast without these two is not the same anymore..RIP Tony & Richie.
You know what, Tony and Richie were legends. When I was little, whenever anyone talked about 'commentary', I always recalled Tony, I don't know why. But, I simply did.
RIP Greigy, the sport of cricket will never be the same again. It feels like with Mr. Greig dying the game of cricket also died with it a little bit. He is the voice of cricket, and sometimes he is cricket itself, truly the greatest commentator and play by play man of all time. RIP Mr. Tony Greig
I met Tony in penrith 2 weeks ago...his grandkids play cricket for penrith and our team were playing next to them...such a nice bloke...he even did commentating for us
Miss the old commentary box of richie greigy and bill. These gentlemen added charisma knowledge and charm to every cricket call.RIP Tony and Richie.Class acts!
Sir 'TonyGreig' I must say tat your voice is one of the prime reasons for which i started to watch Cricket.U would have been a controversial figure but the courage and the passion u had is unmatched and irreplaceable.Cricketing world will miss your voice for sure.'MAY YOUR SOUL REST IN PEACE!'
It was always great when Tony Greig and Bill Lawry were commentating on an ashes test. They were both totally partisan and loved putting the other down if their team was on top, but there was also an obvious deep friendship and respect between them.
Thanks so much for this....comedy gold!! Yet another example of why the Channel 9 team are a million miles better than the Sky Sports lot.........wish we could have a choice in England, I'd choose them anytime. And it IS Benaud with another brilliant line.
Reminds me of a match at Adelaide Oval, Shane Warne had come on to bowl... And Tony was complaining about him bowling from the wrong end... Chappelli said "No wonder you couldn't play leg spin bowling... This end is perfect." Tony later questioned Richie, the leg spin expert in the commentary team, and he repeated Chappelli's opinion.
I used to play against a bloke we used to call Captain Cockup (bit like Greig). Mind you, Captain Cockup had the last laugh when he started to beat us.
I wonder if there is not maybe an eternal ashes test match in heaven just for richy and tony to commentate on...wonder who will be playing in the sides?
Richie's call was great. "What's that guy doing now behind the other fella." I miss stuff like this. R.I.P Tony Greig
And now RIP Richie as well :(
It is "doggy" you are coming up with Mey positions 😂😂😂
This wouldn't fly today, would cause an outrage in the woke era.
@@PranavJoshi6687Genuinely don't think anyone would be all that mad about that line. Some of you just wanna whine about the 'woke era'
Never realised how much I actually enjoyed Tony Greig's commentary until he was gone :(

When I watch the cricket I still think Tony is apart of the commentary team as well as Richie Benaud. May they both rest in peace.

Can we appreciate the fact that Aussies had that technology in 2010.
0:54 - That sounded so much like Richie Benaud's commentary in EA Cricket games. Haha.
