    Incredible series! Your drone footage and music selection was really good, particularly the soft music and brief periods of silence at the church or castle. Very nicely done. While still waiting to leave for Lisbon, your videos have become one of the highlights of my week! Thanks and I look forward to your next adventure!

    the History of Portugal is connected at many points, very closely with the Templars.
    infact unlike what Hollywood likes to make people think, it was actually in Portugal, that templars ended taking refugee

    • @gabkoost
      @gabkoost 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Templars were all over Europe and were initially financed by the Pope. They had castles and properties all over and this Order was divided in multiple units. The Portuguese Templars ended up gathering in Tomar as it was their local base. The Pope ordered the end of this organization because it was by far abusing their initial purpose. They were created as fighting Knights from mostly noble origins (not monks although they had to make specific vows) to help pilgrims to the Holly Land and be a force of Reconquista against the Moors. But as they got extremely rich trough favors and donations from Kings that would gladly forsake cities and castles in exchange of protection and other financial benefits (Templars became notorious for being loan sharks and for starting the notion of Banking), their influence became extremely dangerous and they started acting like rogue militia. Plus, with the fall of Jerusalem and the end of Reconquista, this order had not only no purpose but their activity was limited to bothersome operations that menaced medieval equilibrium of forces.
      As such, No. Templars did not took refuge in Portugal. As they were on trial all over France, England, Portugal, Spain etc, each local order had their own faith and things to worry about. The idea that the Templars were one and only entity and that they ended up in Portugal is a ridiculous idea that came from nowhere. It's just BS stories told to feel up people with nationalist ego and tourists with fake history.

    • @rattfink99
      @rattfink99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@gabkoost In 1319 the Order of Christ was created in Portugal. The Order of Christ was with the protection of the Portuguese king, Denis, who refused to pursue and persecute the former knights as had occurred in most of the other sovereign states under the political influence of the Catholic Church. So technically, you could say they did take refuge in Portugal.

    • @gabkoost
      @gabkoost 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rattfink99 Wrong. The order of Christ was a new order that took charge of PORTUGUESE TEMPLAR assets. King Denis intervened near the Pope asking for a way to negotiate something other than the complete dissolution of the Portuguese faction as they had been instrumental to reconquista and would refuse to simply erase them.
      I keep reading the same things over and over. The Order of Christ NEVER was a new order of the Templars and it never brought ex templars from around Europe to Portugal.
      Templars from other nations were either arrested or converted to other orders while the assets of the Templars were also transferred.
      The order of Christ was a nice solution. The all mission, purpose and vocation of the Templars ceased when the Pope ordered it to cease. The rest was, as it is clear, a new organization with the sole purpose of controlling the huge assets they had gathered.

    • @rattfink99
      @rattfink99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@gabkoost yeah, but the portuguese templars werent persecuted, that you cant deny

    • @gabkoost
      @gabkoost 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rattfink99 They were to the point the Templars ceased to exist. That's my point. You don't need to be murdered to be persecuted. Templars of Tomar were accused of Heresy just like the others in France and England.
      Order of Christ weren't Templars. Like i said, it was another order created to spare their lives and control their assets.

    As always... nicely done! The end of your 4 days, was showing. Nice to be home! That river area would take more time, to thoroughly experience. I could spend some time, and better explore the food and beverage offerings. (I’m taking notes.) The castle grounds were dramatic... and you could imagine so much life and death, there. Joen, I understood your moment of contemplation of time shifting, because of the simple beauty of it all. But, as lady A, said... we are spoiled in the use of modern toilets. I love your music selections... and would enjoy a collection of wine sipping drone music! 😉

I'm sure you can't fly above 200 meters but I'm not sure if you can or can't fly there. If you guys want more info about this topic there's a app that you can download and see where you can or can not fly drones and RC, the app is called ''Voa na Boa''. apart from that, nice vid

    • @gabkoost
      @gabkoost 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No we are not. Templar Knights weren't Portuguese. I mean, some were. But the reconquest effort was financed by the Pope and all the European Crowns that weren't happy to see the continent subject to a new invasion after the centuries it took us to get over the Roman Empire and it's downfall. Templar Knights were Knights from all over Europe fighting in the name of Christ and their Lords. Portugal just happened to be one of the hottest battlegrounds. This being said, the French and English were the most prominent nations of the Templar movement.

    1:27 - It's not "high tide" because the tide doesn't reach that far inland. In Tancos (the village where you took the boat), the water rises according to the discharge rates of the two portuguese Tejo dams, Fratel and Belver, the spanish Cedillo Tejo dam and the Castelo de Bode dam, located in the Zêzere river.
    1:36 - That village is called Arripiado.
    3:04 - Whoever told you that you were near Tomar fooled you. You were almost 30km away. Tomar has no connection whatsoever with the Tejo river. ; )

    Cadinho is abbreviation of bocadinho (a little bit, a little).
    Carinho is affection, 'care'.
    Ah, very important!
    Bocadinho, for its part, is diminutive of bocado. And so on.
