Big Flipper and Hulk tackle another heavy rollover (loaded with paper rolls)

  • On April 8, 2020, we were called by the California Highway Patrol to respond to a tractor trailer rollover. Dave in Big Flipper and myself in Hulk responded to find it was a dry van trailer loaded with 12 pallets of large paper rolls (the rolls were SoCal Edison blank invoices).
    The integrity of the trailer walls were damaged and compromised so we made the decision to offload the trailer before uprighting it. The offload process required additional teamwork and trucks, specifically our Landolls to transport them and a large forklift to load them.
    After offloading a majority of the load, we decided that we could perform the upright with three pallets left inside. Big Flipper, Hulk and our 50ton wrecker were all positioned and rigged to bring everything over in one controlled motion.
    If you liked the video, subscribe to see more in the future and follow us on Instagram and Facebook to see our daily recoveries and more pictures of The Hulk and our 75ton rotator, Big Flipper, where I post content regularly.
    We also have a new merch store on the website where you can get Pepe's gear like hats, beanies, shirts and hoodies!

My Wife and Grandson is really driving me crazy to find out from you. I don't know what to tell them, I don't know anything about your truck's design other than what you tell us on TH-cam. Oh it was definitely a pain. Took a real good amount of time to get 9 pallets out. Once there we said screw it, let's flip it with three left! The hard part is even though it's flipped and they have damage, you never want to cause further damage. You'll get some blowhard insurance adjuster that will try to deny your bill for any reason and we don't want to add anything that will make that process harder for us

    Sir Josh !! OKS!! From OTR experiences in my time ,,When they loaded those pallets in the middle of the trailer ,,they SHOULD have NAILED 2X4 's along each side of the pallets to prevent them from moving sideways like they did to turn the trailer over & of course excess speed going into that curve was also the main cause of the wreck !! they should have given the driver tickets for speed & reckless driving !!!! Back in the 1970s I was driving a 7ton max lift Allen Grove truck crane and got called to a truck roll over hauling rolls of news print paper. It was at the bottom of a hill, tight left hander with a garden set back from the road outside an old peoples home. Two old ladies would sit on a bench in the garden in the afternoon.
    The fire brigade couldn't see anything of the bench, so we started hoisting the rolls away, after removing 4 the bench started to be seen. The 5th roll was hooked up and as we lifted it clear a huge cheer went up I glanced to where every one was looking and there were the 3 old ladies, the 2 that usually sat on the bench had taken the 3rd to the post Office and also nipped into a café for a cuppa.
    I can tell you I was trembling with fear and celebration at the same time. WOW what timing they had.

    so it takes one forklift with operator about 20 minutes to load 25k pounds on a truck/trailer. And it takes one responsible driver to take that load from A to B where it takes another forklift with operator about 20 minutes to unload and it's done. But when you have one person fail in that process chain, it takes 3 heavy duty tow rigs, one flatbed trailer, one or two support vehicles, a heavy duty forklift, several CHP units, CalTrans cleanup and repair units, a Hazmat team and somewhere around 25 to 35 people to remove the mess over half a day and another half day to repair the damage to road and embankment.

      Imagine how little business I would have if people were just more careful all across the board? From securement to driving, most of what I recover could easily be preventable.

  • @BurgMan99
    @BurgMan99 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I work accident response to provide MOT for tow and HP can work safely and we had a semi rollover recently and like this it had rolls of paper but the rolls were much bigger, almost as wide as the trailer and almost as tall as it, the recovery crew ended up driving a skid steer into the trailer to roll the massive rolls out of the trailer, they were just the rolls, no support straps or pallets and used a boom arm forklift to load them onto a lowboy and the skid steer on the other side to keep them from completely rolling off the trailer until they were secured

    I love all the skill and techniques you use to do these recoveries, great videos. Have you considered adding a skid steer loader to your fleet due to their off road capability and extremely diverse number of attachments you can put on them? I have a Bobcat and was thinking it could drive right in that trailer with pallet forks and snatch those rolls without getting hung up on the trailer wall/floor. On our farm, we use a round bale “grabber” for loading one ton round bales of hay, and that would hug those paper rolls and drive right out with them (I know it’s a once in a blue moon situation too). For bulk materials that need to be offloaded, you could use a grapple bucket. You can custom build attachments for them too.
