      I bet your rack weighed a ton
      How is the V5 different from the V3? and I wonder how these devices would function with the new KB's like the M-Audion and Arturia with physical controls
      Given the proliferation of things like the Arturia V Collection and IK Multimedia Syntronic. I wonder if these modules should not also be made as Virutual Synths and drum boxes

      Prophet 6, OB-X8, GSMusic e7 (with ladder filter!) in a nice British aluminum rack.
      On my desk only the significantly smaller Roland D-05 finds its place.

    Every manufacturer should make Desktop/Rack versions of their synths. It should be standard practice.

      Cause it would be a positive for the consumer and would make it easier to get more synths, which then means more money for the company. Also nothing matches analog, not even the best VST or computer @@X22GJP

      Also can be hard to tell on recordings, but live there is a night and day difference between analog synthesizers and software synths. On recordings it's a little more difficult to hear and you can touch it up in a variety of ways which makes it sound better, but live there's absolutely no comparison@@X22GJP

      Also taking away unnecessary things like keybed+ pitch/modwheel they can sell more products for less money. Better prices mean more customers. More options = more opportunity

      Not really a MIDI controller, but the Yamaha CP300 Digital Piano is like a desk with a keyboard attached to it. Plenty of room for some modules. It does offer expression and two switch pedals plus wheels and a great weighted 88 note keyboard.

      I have a StudioLogic SL88 Studio that has plenty of space on top. It has weighted keys, though, so not for every synthesist. I learned piano first, so it feels more natural/familiar to me.

      Not strictly flat I guess, but the Casio CZ-5000 or 3000 can be great for that, and you get a good, unique sound engine with it. The down side being it's not a good midi controller with its own interface!

      MIDI Thru!

    • @samecoff2788
      @samecoff2788 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I use an 8x8 midi interface and my DAW routes between them. One track per synth. To play a keyboard, just select the track assigned to that keyboard/module. At one point, I had 40 hardware synths in my studio, all of which were connected via MIDI interfaces. I also had two 8x8 midi patchbays for the synths which weren’t multitimbral. That allowed me to connect the patchbay to one pair of ins and outs on the MIDI interface and connect 14 synths.

    Is there a difference in the way the notes get triggered? Like midi as opposed to voltage? If so what are the implications of that?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi WalterGirao. The TRIGON-6 is trigged via MIDI. When I was talking about voltage control of Pitch and Gate, I was talking about a feature of the MIDI controller keyboard. But, generally speaking, notes triggered via Gate voltage are going to have less latency and more timing accuracey than MIDI Note Ons. It's just that MIDI is so much easier to use that Gates and CV (especially when playing polyphonically).

    • @WalterGirao
      @WalterGirao ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sweetwater thank you for the answer! This leads me to another question then: does the keyboard version of the trigon use midi or voltage to trigger it's own sounds? I imagine that could be an important difference between modules and keyboards?

    Sequetial Trigon. They put that out in a hurry. I think the price for many synths is getting way too high. Don't think anything can sound that good. Like buying a vst for 50 euros. Why spend 3000 euros on something that is pretty much the same?

    • @MatthewTomich
      @MatthewTomich ปีที่แล้ว

      If you prefer VSTs, then there are no shortage of software options. That said, hardware synths are relatively dirt cheap - when the Prophet 5 came out, it was $15k in today's dollars.

  • @klstay
    @klstay ปีที่แล้ว

    It is a quality synth that sounds great in the range of things it does, but come on... $2500 for a 6 voice monotimbral compared to a number of alternative is definitely paying a steep tax for the name on the front.

    • @trebleboost7
      @trebleboost7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s a character synth with a pretty robust VCO architecture to me. Daniel I think does a great job of touching on it and I think it could be synth where once mastered could do things others can’t. I probably don’t have the patience personally to find the sweet spots though. Want to try it though. Soon. Module for me though as I find the 4 octave format too limiting.

    • @klstay
      @klstay ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trebleboost7 they will understandably never build it (because it would cannibalize sales of their other synths and the OB-X8), but a 5 octave bitimbral 8 voice Pro 3 with parallel/serial filter option and dedicated layer outs (lose the mediocre onboard effects) would be worth $5k or a module for $3500. This is just too limited for the price compared to a number of alternatives. No doubt it will still sell well and buyers will have a great sounding quality synth, just not the one they easily could have (and IMHO should have) built.

  • @superblondeDotOrg
    @superblondeDotOrg ปีที่แล้ว

    I dunno about the synth tone, but driving it with a bunch of block harmonies played live on a keyboard is not the way to go. Write a full composition in Dorico as a full score and then pipe the midi into it, for a real demonstration.
