Can you believe it's been 30 yrs since the LS was originally introduced ? I can remember being a kid and my gramps friends teasing him for driving an Ls , "Fancy Toyota you got there" , "You paid 36k for that ? I would've got a Benz" , "Bold move spending that money on a Toyota lad".
They all underestimated Lexus at the time but Gramps got the last laugh as his 91 LS had an 18yr lifespan (Died in 08 unfortunately with about 362k).
This car will ALWAYS be special for Lexus or Toyota as a company with their 83 yrs of experience.

I recently lucked up on a 93 LS400 which I’m currently replacing the ECU on. Jesus it’s an amazing car even today, I get crazy looks in it and people don’t believe it’s almost 30 years old.

That’s so funny. When I read that, I thought that he meant his grandfather got the last laugh because he still had 362k in his bank account because he didn’t buy the Mercedes.

@@LlyleHunter lol..ironically thats actually very true. Benz are great cars and all, but Lexus is the only luxury car brand that gives all the comfort, power, trouble free cars and high resale value.

Ok guys these cars are killing it right now! Whether it's Lexus, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Lincoln, Cadillac, Mazda you name it. But this car here, yowzaa! I know both of you lost sleep the night before reviewing this. And that silver spices it up even more.

I’ve gotten the privilege to sit in an executive LS with the Kiriko glass trim at Sewell Lexus here in Dallas and it was an absolute pleasure . Everything imo was up to par or even outpaces the Germans for the value.
Unfortunately, the touchpad was quite the learning curve although I know that after awhile owning the new LS people will get used to the pad just like I had with the hockey puck in the old LS and the RX. I was also a little disappointed that the LS now that it’s on the long wheel base, still has the overall same dimensions in the interior as the short wheel base LS460, although that might be due to the fact that I was 5’ 9” in height when my family had the LS460L and now I’m 6’.
The LS is more dynamic to drive than it was ever before, it was quiet, and the ride was a little stiffer than the old LS but that was probably due to the bigger rims and the suspension tweaks that the LS received to get such a balanced vehicle as the old LS handled like a boat. On top of that, true to what Andrew said the LS handled like it was a smaller vehicle even though it is near 5,000 lbs in weight. Not to forget to mention, the new LS grabs far more attention than even the 2013 S-Class our family owned back when it was new. The design may not be for everybody for sure, but one thing is clear, and that is the LS has a powerful presence and it exudes prestigiousness and it is in no way less commanding than the Germans.
If you are looking for something to keep for awhile with no drawbacks for the value, I would sincerely recommend the LS as an alternative to the Germans. Just my two cents for those looking for their next luxury flagship. 😊

@Daniel Hernandez good point. And the G90 does have an appealing value play too which makes it hard to beat. If you don't care for having the most amount of luxury, and dig the G90, you can't go wrong with it.

I'm not a fan of the styling, but you can't dispute the build quality, and sophisticated driving experience. Another great review...you guys are Kings when it comes to effectively capturing and communicating details, but maybe next time you can find a quieter, and more scenic spot to record in that is more fitting for a flagship.

The 2017 LS460 is sexier IMO. Best of all it's naturally aspirated and doesn't need artificial engine notes pumped in the cabin via the speakers💪💪😎

    • @hemmarket

That's not actually true, the engine noise is real, its just amplified so you can hear it better in the cabin. Nothing artificial. Plus that means you get to enjoy the growl, but your neighbors don't have to.

I’ve liked these since they were introduced. If you don’t mind right hand drive, you can now easily buy a nice JDM Toyota Celsior, which is the same car as the first gen LS400. The first generation is literally a million mile car, if you take care of it. Here’s an example of a sweet Gen II Celsior. th-cam.com/video/fkbJRk7MjQs/w-d-xo.html
I love the new one. If there is one thing I would change, it would be to back down on the textile industry styling cues (spindle shaped grille, loomed thread look on the center of the dash, and any spider web or thread weaving cues-some people don’t like spiders, and don’t care if Toyota’s background is the textile industry). Otherwise I’m inclined to say it’s yet another winner.
Thanks for the very detailed and comprehensive review.

Ugly styling. Lexus has lost its elegance. I'd want buttons not a touchpad. Can't imagine scrolling through menus to make minor adjustments while driving. My current '98 LS400 has been our daily driver for almost 23 yrs. and remains superb. I see no need to replace it. It was the successor to 2 German "luxury" cars that were utter junk in terms of reliability despite flawless maintenance. Yes, they were made in Germany and both arrived with factory defects.
