You need to fly 250 passengers, so forget narrow bodies such as the A32x and 737. 787 are used everyday to fly from TSA to HND by: China Airlines (CI), Eva Airways (BR), Japan Airlines (JL), and All Nippon Airways (NH). Around 2014 JL and NH upgraded to the 787 from 767s. Eva bought the 787 to replace their a330-200. CI acquired the 787 to replace the a330-300. Yes, the A339 costs less in terms of pilot training when you already have A330-200 and A330-300 pilots on your payroll. The revenue CI and BR gets for HND TSA flight is too lucrative to not go with the 787. Just to put in prospective, For the average traveler that wants to fly 3-4 hours from tokyo to Taipei your options are: NRT to TPE or HND to TSA. NRT to TPE Economy fare (350-500 Round Trip). HND to TSA Economy Fare (450- 750 round Trip)

As far as I know the a330neo and the 787 have pretty much the same fuel efficiency. However, doesn’t require extra pilot and cabin crew training like if an airline opt for the 787. However, I think the 787 efficiency comes also from its design and materials and beats at some aspects the neo. But if an airline considers also the issues with the 787 related to Boeing’s greed, it may also be a crucial investment factor.
If it meets the requirements of the airline, they should order it, be it airbus or boeing. Also, As of this date, the 787 Dreamliner has no casualties in revenue flight.

The 900 NEO is one sweet plane. New engines, new wings, among other improvements. Coby Xplanes has a great interview with the head Airbus engineer for this program.
I am a big fan of the A330/A340 but quite a part of the sales was because of the huge 787 delays. New large A330NEO orders will materialise because the production line of the 787 is full until 2031/2032.....fine for the industry, not because they are begging for it.
The sales’ problem of the 330NEO is that there still a lot quite new 330CEO in service and those aircraft are quite up to date, so there is no need for airlines to invest in a new aircraft. The same is with Embraer E2 jet
Hawaiian dumped their A330-800s because they realized the money they saved buying a less-than capable aircraft compared to the 787 wasn’t worth it. The 10 338s that Hawaiian cancelled are basically just being passed around from airline to airline because they have no use long term to the airlines leasing them. It’s attractive because they’re cheaper due to subsidies. If the A330 is so great, why haven’t Air France, British Airways and Lufthansa ordered any? They only ordered the 350 and have no plans to add any neos. Strange!
Hawaiian were given huge leanings by Boeing as they had been a mainly Boeing fleet -Alaska airlines ownership was the final straw as they ONLY fly Boeing having disposed of the ex Virgin A 320 to Air Canada. Nothing in this business is simple !

I`m of the opinion as good as the A330Neo is it really won`t have a huge impact on B787. I understand the latter has had problems but it`s sold very well & has an excellent order book. Having said that A330Neo has added some attractive features/improvements which will only help it`s sales & every sale is one B787 loses so AB will be happy enough considering it`s relatively low development cost.

An airline chooses its seats, its number per row and its seat pitch. Nothing to do with Boeing or the 787. Jetstar crams 330 people into a 787-8, 9 abreast. 2500 have died flying on faulty 330 planes. 260 almost died over learmouth on a Qantas a330. The 787 is a clean sheet plane, that is by far the best and efficient plane for its loading. A330 neo is a 30 year re-winged plane, with almost no Airbus plane getting the underwing engine performance
