WOW! Mike Zimmer cuts open a vein about getting fired by Minnesota Vikings

- Mackey and Judd dive into Mike Zimmer’s comments to the Minnesota Star Tribune about his 2022 firing by the Minnesota Vikings. Zimmer pulled no punches and clearly still holds a major grudge against the organization. But does he also make some good points about Rick Spielman and Kirk Cousins?
Zimmer needs to let it go, my god. He was here for 8 seasons, in a league where the average head coaching tenure is 3 seasons. And they were underachieving greatly in the final 3-4 seasons. He did nothing to cultivate relationships with his team leaders or develop QB talent, so quit acting shocked you were fired.
Most coaches never reach the level Zimmer was in 2014-2017 with how he rebuilt the team and went the NFC Championship. That makes him a good coach in comparison to his peers. However, Super Bowl is the goal and it's an extremely high standard, and very few reach that. He just wasn't quite good enough, but there should be zero shame in that because he accomplished what most wouldn't have been able to. He just has personality issues about not letting things go and self awareness.
Signing Kirk Cousins was the nail in the coffin period. Bradford was more talented but always injured and Bridgewater never had a chance to fulfill his potential.
Zim was right don’t sign Cousins and Spielman didn’t listen l.
Should of gave case kennum a 3 year deal or maybe just another year
We should have fired Zimmer after the playoff loss to 49ers, our team shifted from a defensive heavy team to having offensive one. when diggs and thielen were becoming superstars and wanting big contracts. Why keep a coach that want to run, run, pass and pay two wrs big contracts. Then extend Kyle Rudolph to a massive contract he wasn’t worth. Zimmer has the same players on defense for like 8 straight years which is unheard of in nfl and still complains. There is plenty of coaches who create a defense that is solid with less like Flores.
That's the mess KAM and KOC have been cleaning up the past couple years. A bunch of old overpaid players with no salary cap because of it along with no young depth on the horizon.
Zimmer loves teddy till he would off his rookie contract and signs 30 mill
I'm glad for a short moment Mackey and Judd said what NEVER has been said: The Wilfs are very much part of the mess.
Rudolph deserved the $ - how many times did he drop the ball? How many times was he instrumental in blocks? I am so happy he wanted to retire a Viking. He was kicked to the curb when he deserved pay ----- this has all to do w/paying Kurt for being a$$
@@loveisds Rudolph was old and over rated. Paying him would have been a huge mistake.
Zimmer is right where he belongs as a DC. There was a reason he was denied a head coaching job for so long. He's not head coach material and the Vikings had to find out the hard way.
Agreed, not every offensive or defensive coordinator is head coach material. Zimmer needs to realize he should stay in his lane as a DC which he is good at being.
I'm a fan of a different NFL team living in the Twin Cities, so maybe I have a little different perspective, but I agree with you.
It was apparent to me early in Zimmer's tenure that he was not suited for the top spot. The way he seemed to despise his offense and his offensive coordinators, even before Kirk arrived, didn't speak well for his presumed role as a leader of the entire team.
I contrast this with Andy Reid, who obviously favors the offense, but has had good relationships with his defensive coordinators and appears to be well liked by players on both sides of the ball.
You have to be the coach of the entire team.
Zimmer is legit the second or third best coach in Vikings history.
Maybe so. Or working for an owner with different tolerances? First we have Tua calling Flores "a terrible person". Now people talking about a fear atmosphere at the Vikings. Maybe Zim would be mum if someone didn't "see a story".
Hopefully, Flores isn’t head coach material, either.
Zim loved Teddy. He's quoted as saying he tied Teddy's shoes for him while he was rehabbing his knee. Teddy getting hurt was the beginning of the end for Mike.
He would have loved him right up to the moment Teddy deserved top QB money!
Please Mackey ask boone and sirles to elaborated on some stories about Zim now. Please
THIS.
Speaking of which: where has Boone been? I haven't seen an episode of him in sooo long
@@mujahudin Check out the O-line Committee! It's Mackey, Boone, and Jeremiah Sirles every week!
Boone sucked and got benched and cut by Zim and Rick.
I'd watch that for sure!
Bridgewater was never going to be more than a middling QB at best, apparently a really great guy, but his skillset was minimal.
Vikings fans DO NOT MISS ZIMMER
I missed 2017 Zimmer defense... fuck that
Zimmer and Brian Flores are both great coaches that have been tough and critical with players.. The difference between them is that Flores can take criticism, look inward and say that he has room for improvement and change to be a coach that builds better relationships in the future. Zimmer doesn't seem to believe he is at fault for anything or can do anything better. To him, it's a personal shot at his character if you suggest that he could be better, and there's always an excuse elsewhere when things go wrong. So I have mad respect for Flores for saying that he doesn't ever want another player he coaches to feel how Tua does about him. Zimmer can just kind of go away quietly into the night.
This is vintage Mike Zimmer. Everything is somebody else's fault. One of the best defensive coordinators in the history of the game but way over his head as a head coach - Peter principle personified. To despise and refuse to talk to your starting quarterback, clearly out of spite, is one of the most self-defeating actions I could ever imagine. It is the epitome of crawling out on the branch and cutting it off behind you.
And where was Spielman during all of this ?. Clearly the Wilfs trusted these two far more than they should've. I wouldn't blame them if they're keeping a much tighter rein on the Vikings situation these days.
One of Zimmer's faults is that he wanted to coach the defense but never seems comfortable handing the reigns off to a coordinator and let them take care of the offensive side of things. They brought in experienced coaches, Norv Turner for example, and that ended in some catastrophic way that we still don't know about.
John DeFilippo was one of the hottest up and coming coaches, who was on track to being a head coach until he came to Minnesota and ran into the Mike Zimmer buzzsaw. You can argue that Zim flat out ruined Flip's NFL career.
Zimmer never trusted anyone to run the offense but he clearly didn't want to invest in it himself. KOC smartly recognizes that he is an offensive guy, a QB coach in particular, who wants to focus on that side of the ball. And I'm not saying KOC isn't engaged in the defense but he lets Brian Flores run that side of the ball. I doubt KOC shows up to very many linebacker meetings and tells that staff what to do.
I sort of get the feeling that Zimmer hated the offensive side of the ball and wanted to micromanage it at the same time. And while I get the frustrations with the Cousins signing, and you can sure argue that Zim was correct that signing Cousins was going to hurt his ability to build a strong defense. Zimmer took it personally on Kirk.
Once he got in the building it was Mike job to make it work and he never seemed to want to try, he actually seemed to want to go out of his way to prove that it wouldn't work.
KOC is doing the same thing right now in reverse! Coach the fucking team and let the coordinators do there job.
It was definitely Karma when he fired Defillippo a week or two before the last game of the season against the Bears where he let the media know he had fired John for not running the ball and surer then hell after the firing they lost the last two games to miss the playoffs in Kirk’s first season as a Viking! That in turn pissed Diggs off and he wanted to be traded.
A head coach who takes zero responsibility for anything. Just what you are looking for......
That's the crux of it. HC is about responsibility.
Zimmer got himself fired. Like Kirk or not, how do you completely avoid meeting with your qb until he has to beg you to meet with him. Zimmer got himself canned.
As soon as he leaves the entire team finally took a breath. You could tell
With the defense Zimmer had in the glory years, it was TOTALLY stupid to give Cousins the contract he got. Who overruled Zimmer on that? I assume it was NOT Zimmer who felt it was fine to hand SO much money to Cousins. Case Keenum had more success in Minnesota.
Zimmer knew Cousins was mid.
@JimMork-r9u with the D he had that's why you go out to get a QB when that's what you really needed. It was Zims job to develop and form a relationship with the players he had ESPECIALLY with Kirk. You also don't want to sabotage your OCs as well
@@JimMork-r9uhis defense got smacked in Philly 38-7
Zimmer literally walking out of the draft room is a joke. Such an immature, unprofessional way to act. I don’t care if spielman drafted the worst player in nfl history, that’s not an acceptable way for an nfl coach to act. Very glad he is out of the building and back to doing what he’s good at, which is being a DC. Being a head coach is about much more than Xs and Os and requires a skillset that Zimmer never had. Things are significantly better and the future is bright with KOC. SKOL!
After the offseason the Vikings have had, My response to zimmer is who gives a f*** what you think.
Mike Zimmer is right; the players DID get him fired. And Zimmer was right about signing Cousins keeping the "D" down because they couldn't sign "D" players. And Zimmer is right about Spielman. And Mond. The REAL issue with Zimmer was he spoke his mind!! You don't do that! Even when you are right about what you're saying! Now we know why Mike Zimmer went on so many HC interviews and didn't get any job offers. Nobody wants to deal with a guy who's gonna be a threat to publicly rip them. The bosses look at a guy like Mike Zimmer as a loose cannon. A Wildcard.
I think sam Bradford going down after the first game in 2017 was the turning point. I think that was the team. Bradford was incredible against New Orleans. I was excited about that season. I think they would’ve done better than even Case Keenam . I think that changed everything. If they had Bradford that year and the rest of the way things would’ve been different.
💯. Bradford short time here was a nice memory. Unfortunate
@@LprogressivesANDliberals it was. That game against New Orleans on Monday night was one of my favorites. I just remember John Gruden going crazy over Bradford’s throws. He really threaded the needle that night. I think we really would’ve had some thing if he stayed healthy for a few years. But again, we are the Vikings. Our ship always burns at sea.
@@George_L-w7oI was at that game and I love how we silenced the “who dat” chants!! That game was glorious! I took my son and it’s one of our fondest Vikings memories. He’s now 16 and bleeds the purple, right along with his mama!! We ride hard over here, although we’ve since moved to the territory of the crazy birds calling themselves E-A-G-E-L-S.😢..pray for us, since we’re close enough to their complex that we can feel their wrath..😂 But SKOL still reigns!! I’m excited for the season! SKOL Vikings! LFG!!!🎉❤❤
The Kris Boyd stray killed me 😂😂
You need to run this article on the O lIne show as well
💯
Jesus Christ himself couldn’t develop Kellen Mond, Wyatt Davis, and Chaz Surrat. Rick lost his fastball late in his tenure, that draft was both him and Zim’s death knell.
Yeah chazz surratt was a qb turned linebacker in college.. I remember disliking that pick with zimmer too 😂🟡🟣
What is that about Spielman drafting backups when there were starters still there to be taken?
We'll never know because Zim probably didn't even try
You aren't wrong. But the point is that once the deal is done, it's done. As the HC it's his job to get whatever he can out of those players, regardless of what side of the ball they play on. His attitude shows that he wasn't even trying.
Thanks for the show! No shade at offseason vent line but couldn’t wait to hear PD’s comments on this, appreciate you guys jumping on and discussing, great convo!
I heavily disagree with you guys on the Sam Bradford trade. That trade was the beginning of the downfall of the Spielman/Zimmer era.
There is no world that Bradford is worth a 1st in 2016.
An world where he stays healthy but we knew he wasn't gonna stay healthy. So ur right.
BTW, Chazz Surratt did make the New York Jets 53 man roster this year.
He is a good special teamer, but as a 24 year old prospect who has just moved to LB from QB and had sub 40 PFF grades in college, he was a horrific pick in the 3rd round.
What the Zimmer situation reveals is how asleep at the wheels the Wylfs were. If Zim was like that, he should've been fired. Since the Spielman let it be, then he should've been fired immediately. With that piece Zim definitely doesn't get another HC job, maybe interim if McCarthy is fired. Not sure if that is possible now.
Never underestimate Jerry Jones lol
Also, if Spielman knew Zimm was outright indifferent to Kirk. Well I must say that shifts the majority of the blame from Zim to Spielman. A child will continue to act like a child of you don't check it. Did Spielman talk to Kirk? If he did with that information he should've went to the Wylfs and said this can't stand. Maybe he didn't because he thought it would bring heat on him. Whatever his reasons Spielman I think is actually most accountable. It's many layers really if you take the time to analyze. In many ways that's seems to be the reason they've been reluctant to talk extension for Kwesi or O'Connell. They will take everything into account before falling asleep (or appearing to)at the wheel again
16:23 Zim really can't complain about the Cousins contract, but he didn't really do anything to support the offense. He, in fact, mocked the offense as they were headed to the NFC championship in 2017. So if the organization felt like the offensive struggling, of course, the natural thing to do would be to find pieces to balance it out. Do I agree with Cousin's contract? No, but if he supported Case Keenum more and found a way to keep him on the team, it would have been cheaper. He lacks a head coach mindset
All this information makes Kirks "you like that!!" Chest thump even more epic 😂😂
If Zimmer was your child you wouldn’t put up with that behaviour.
Also Spielman bears a lot of responsibility for creating the bad blood through the picks he made that Zimmer disagreed with.
1. Wilf’s major fail by not having a clear picture of what is going on. It’s not they have to sign off on picks but they need to know their management team is functional.
2. Spielman must have known Mike was mercurial. The draft strategy has to be agreed and locked in days before.
3. Zimmer needed to grow up. Sulking and wreaking doesn’t move you closer to the SB. He also had a hammer and a nail. Give me good D players and I will get the job done. Sorry Mike you are the CEO. This should have been hammered out at the start.
I'm sorry I blame the Wilfs for the dysfunction between Zimmer and Spielman. They hired both of them and its their job to monitor the health between them. They either were ignorant of the situation or ineffective of fixing it,
Wilfs sux period only care about the dollars in there pockets
It cracks me up when Judd makes comments about other states and it’s clear he’s never spent time outside the Midwest 😂
Midwest is the best anyway
This is exactly why the Wilfs were so big on the collaboration this time around.
After how many seasons????? C'mon. KOC is only as good as Flores. Vikings struck GOLD W/FLORES. PERIOD!
@@loveisds What are you even talking about? The Wilf's talked about collaboration nonstop before and after hiring KAM and KOC because of the Spielman and Zimmer disaster.

Sorry, Phil, but a 65-inch TV, as Boone would say, those are rookie numbers. If it's not a 75in or higher that's like Stone Cold busting open wine bottles instead of beer.
Oh nuts. Mine is 32 and I don't WANT a monster TV.
Nobody with 2 brain cells to rub together gives a fuck how big your tv is
Request: Don’t start with commercials. No TV show I know of would think an audience would stick. Pods no diff
i always wondered what happened with him and Norv Turner -- never did hear the back story on that. I remember Zimmer being completely flummoxed by that.
I live in NY and hear a lot of A-Aron interviews. He said the hardest defense he’s ever played against was Mike’s defense when they were cooking over there in Minnesota. So that’s an mvp qb who’s had years in the league saying that was the hardest defense. Not a good HC but probably one of the best DC’s
Where were the Wilf’s when the relationship broke down? Immediate action should have been taken.
One thing I'd like to know regarding the 3rd round of 2021 draft beef between Speilman and Zimmer is who did Zimmer want vs who was drafted. It'd be interesting to see what he had in mind at that time as 1 out of 4 was able to stick after the 1st year.
In Coach Zimmer’s defense I as a die hard Vikings fan I have to talk myself off the ledge seemingly every disastrous season over and over again and i couldn’t imagine trying to handle this team as the HC who is ultimately held responsible my gawd that is rough
Zimmer needs to take a long vacation and learn to enjoy his life. My god, to carry this much anger years later is nuts.
Love the insight, I honestly stopped watching football all together during the end of the Zimm era last season I watched was 2018. Multitude of reasons and then came back to watching the Vikes in the new current era.
This is the movie Draft Day if it never ended in their favor! Lol. It was never going to work under that dynamic. Zimmer wasn't wrong.
Why you gotta lump BFlo in with Zim. BFlo admitted he would do things different. He never said or acted anything close to being too high and mighty to interact with “the other side of the ball”. BFlo is a lot more like Demeco Ryans tha Zim. So much generalized negativity towards Kwesi and BFlo. 🤔🤔
Because Flores is pretty much the same type of zimmer. Oh he changed and is doing things different now. Cry me a river, Flores is trying to stay relevant that’s all he is doing. His so called great defense better not pull the same shit they did last September and get ripped to shreads while gel because they didn’t play in the preseason.
The Newman part I totally understand him being angry. I’m not sure why people can’t understand why he would be upset. Newman went to the media instead of talking to his friend.
Imagine someone you consider a friend going to the media and talking badly about you instead of coming to you first. If what Zim said is true than he is allowed to want to end that friendship.
None of my friends or family is going to the media and blasting me before privately speaking to me about whatever disagreement there is between us. That’s what real men do!
Should the Vikings consider looking at adding Mike White to the Vikings roster???🆘
I do remember a lot of us being surprised that Spielman got fired including Judd and Phil.
So typical with a negative influence manager. This is business 101 right out of the textbooks. When I was in school they always referred to Billy Martin as the way things blow up after a short period of success. Zimmer was the typical negative influence guy.

That's a generic Purple People Eater
Warning, its rather sweet if you're not a sweet drink kinda person.
Gonna get my brother (he's a die hard packers guy) to shoot a shot for every Vikings TD in the 1st GB Minn game and in exchange, I'll do a shot of either the Packer punch or packer backer whichever uses sour apple for every gb TD.
Zimmer wasn't the only problem, to be clear. Tough luck with the one qb he thought the world of, a shank 27 yarder, then sandwiched between two douchbags with no money to spend on defense. Good on him for getting all his money out of the Wilfs, now he's back in the league. Hope he has a good run with Dallas.
Great show guys thanks for the breakdown and both your takes on it
Do people also forget Tony Sparano and his SON died during his tenure??
A lot of weird crazy things have happened to Zim, I wouldn’t want to get involved with any of his juju with a 10ft pole.
The inevitable end was the moment Rick got swindled by Kirk and gave him the most ridiculous contract in the history of the NFL who didn't deserve it.. 🤣
Then proceeded to show why it was going to end..
4&8th...
i thought the kids passed from many years of alcohol abuse.....
Geez Phil. I just bought a TCL TV this week. Now it’s Roku. Lol
I don't understand how such "strong men" can not just let stuff go. The insecurities that exist in the NFL by grown ass men is ridiculous. Let it go! It's insane!
In his defense, he lost a wife and son. My personality would change as well.
@@nobelwarprize how does that have anything to do with what I'm talking about? He got fired and straight up left the team. He blamed the team for getting him fired. He still holds a grudge against the org for being a bad coach. Am I missing something
Don’t be proud of your anger, fellas.
At least he's being honest.
Zim might not be wrong--complaining about Kirk's contract, complaining about the 2021 draft, complaining, complaining, blaming... Here's my problem with it. He can complain about the QB all day long. At no time did I see Zim offering a solution. He hated Keenum. He hated all the draft choices. He hated Kirk. Did he want Troy Aikman to come down from the broadcast booth?
In short, I don't blame Spielmann for going against Zimmer because the evidence suggests Zimmer was only saying "no." Spielmann had to get a QB. He had to get a kicker. The only players Zim wanted were CBs--where the team wasted 5-6 first and second round picks that never worked out. I remember Zim standing at the podium telling all of us how great Hughes/Waynes/Dantzler/Alexander/Gladney... were going to be.
I was born the heat the Vikes franchise...followed the religiously since 69...its been a relationship of highs and extreme lows. Zim was by far, my least favorite coach. KO sits number 2 now...just one boys...im getting old.
17:23 yeah losing Stephen Weatherly was devastating 😂
Exactly- I never agreed with this idea that signing Kirk led to us losing defensive players. We did let Rhodes, Linval, Harris, and a few others leave. But they were all washed and needed to go. We shouldn’t have re-signed Barr either
The Vikings were top 10 in defensive spending from 2018-2021. The fact is, Zimmer couldn’t develop a single defensive draft pick since 2016. I am certain he had influence over those picks as well. As our defensive core aged, Zimmer couldn’t adapt
I see your look Phil. I agree. Mike should care what you guys think.
Zimmer loves Teddy and Sam for the same reasons why we all had confidence in Teddy and Sam. Zimmer hated Case and Cousins for the same reasons we all knew damn well we could never trust them in the end and Zimmer was right!
Soooo, its all Kirks fault 😡
Built something foundational in those 4 years...1 playoff win on an actual miracle LMFAO
Zimmer speaks some truth here.
As a packer fan I can say he was my number 1 choice for DC. Hafley seems like a good hire but Zimmer runs the exotic blitz aggressive defense and he was a great head coach! If all he had to do was focus on defense again he’s going to kill it. The cowboys loose a great DC and I think they upgraded with Zimmer. I think Zimmer would have loved to coach in GB and really dial it up against the Vikings twice a year.
I cheered when he got fired. He gave off the ultra grumpy drunk grandpa energy in every press conference and had all the charisma of a rough rectal exam as a person in every interview I saw.
Polygamy isn’t legal anywhere, including Utah. 😂

@@nobelwarprizewas talking about the US ha
Just goes to show that he was never going to take accountability. Not saying everything was his fault. But the Wilfs were absolutely right to let him go.
Idk Mackey in regards to what Zimmer had built in Minnesota I could argue there is plenty of teams that maintain that style of defensive team without franchise QBs i.e. Ravens, Steelers, Seahawks, 49ers and they have stayed competitive and even have Super Bowls and Super Bowl appearances
Zim has been listening to our BS for three years. He finally snaps back and he wasn't lying and it's on every show all week people saying the same BS. No one in Sports can leave this Blue State in good Grace. Call it a curse
I don't know what kind of delusion Vikings fans suffer from to think Teddy was ever going to lead this team to a Super Bowl. Even if you're a game manager, you still have to make important clutch plays, and Special Ted never demonstrated that ability. So unless Zimmer built the '85 Bears defense or the '00 Ravens, it was never going to happen. He was the nicest kid in the universe and that's it, and no it wasn't the leg injury that ended a promising career. He was he was before that, a career backup.
We should have went to a superbowl with Zimmer if it wasn't for Walsh choking.
I have heard you guys several times dismiss the idea that this franchise is "cursed". Listening to the litany of disasters that derailed our chances to win a superbowl during the Zimmer era its hard to believe otherwise. It would be one thing if it were just during the Zimmer era. There are stretches like this all throughout Vikings history. Hopefully the recent McCarthy buzzkill is not the beginning of another stretch where the Football Gods build up our hopes only to yank the rug out from underneath us again.
No mention of Zimmer and kickers either lol. Zimm's got some issues hole eff.
Why did the Vikings cut Daniel Carlson?
Mike Zimmer: “Did you see the game?”
Was it an easy decision?
Mike Zimmer: “Yeah, it was pretty easy.”
To be fair Daniel Carlson was set up to fail by Rick Spielman, who switched out his holder with someone who had never done it before right before the season started. That kid got a raw deal in Minnesota.
@@KyleJWest-vn9kn You really think it's Rick Spielman's decision on who holds the ball?
No doubt Spielman should take the major chunk of the blame. He picked more bad players than good ones.
Zimmer was right about Kirk. Kirk’s cult went scorched earth to remove him. Kirk won out. Then the next coach let him go.
Zimmer was right about Kirk.
If anyone remembers the 2015 Hard Knocks episode when he was the defensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals or the Cowboy’s in the nineties would say “Wow this guy would make a great head coach someday!”He was a good NFL head coach for a while but not a great one!
Always disagreed with spielman firing! Wasnt perfect but did bring some great players to the Vikings.
I flat out don’t trust Kwesi to pick talent in the draft.
Blame kirk, not mikes old aging players.....so many years of MN coaches keeping players too long when they should always be looking to keep getting young players . Trade good aging players for draft picks.
Blame Kirk and not Mike for not building kirks ego. That's what kirk needs. The whole world is built to tear ego down. If you want today's players to get great most need to be built up.
To be fair to Mike, Cousins turned me into a bitter, grudge holder too.
The whole Zimmer - Spielman situation started when they obtained Cousins from the Redskins and if anyone with a brain should realize by now it split the team, coaches front office and most importantly the players up.
Zimmer was somewhat right about not wanting Cousins at first but mostly wrong about not attempting to get along with him and making the situation a positive one!
I for one am very happy that O'Connell's is the head coach and that it appears he and Kwesi are on the same page!
SKOL
Zimmer sounds like Arya Stark keeping a revenge list and reciting it every night before bed for 2 years ... Rick, Kirk, Boyd, Kendricks, Newman, Paul Allen, Zygi, the waterboy, the bank teller who didn't say hello ....
Like Cousins, though not for the same reasons, I'm glad Zim is gone, legitimately so, and just happy he has landed safely somewhere (anywhere) else. Who cares, as a Vikings fan, what either has to say.
Like him or not he speaks the truth.
Spielman and Zimmer were so dysfunctional in their last couple years are reasons why they will never get another chance with another team.
I think the real concern is the ownership... How do the Wild brothers be so out of touch with their organization that they don't realize that their head coach has left the draft? If I was the owner and my head coach had left the draft, I would have called him back and said get the hell back to the draft what are you doing This is your job! It shows a real lack of being in touch with what's happening in your own organization for the Wilfs...
The whole approach of a gm ignoring coach’s thoughts on qb and lack of involvement/consideration of the coach thoughts on draft just seems so wrong.
Well maybe Spielman believed a coach focused on defense wouldn't be that involved in offense?
Andy Reid seems to keep it balanced. Wonder how he and the Chiefs GM work to gether.
Absolutely correct
zimmer was right and wrong about a lot but this is the perfect example of why the team must run through the coach.
Now it is clear why Zimmer had to go 😅 even to Zimmer fan boys
CringeFest where Zimmer is 😅
This is so fascinating. Would love some honest quotes from Norv Turner too.
While saying what he said so much later seems petty, I kind of wish he had said more of this as our coach. This team has no spine. It has never had spine. It's been crumbling under the pressure of greatness since 1961. It doesn't seem to matter who is coach, QB, GM, or owner. The soft mentality has to change for this team to actually WIN A TITLE.
Zimmer was the worst head coach in Vikings history. He hardly spent time with the QB’s and never watched game tape with them. He can be a DC, but not a head coach.
The worst coach is actually probably Leslie Frazier.
Zimmer one of the worst Vikings head coaches? What a stupid take.. lol
Les Steckel’s on line 1/
Are you like 6 years old?
The Wilf’s made a logical move by hiring an inexperienced GM in KAM and hiring a HC who is strong but collaborative. Their relationship is the antithesis of Rick/Mike.
KOC strong? The guy is a grade A one wuss. Coddles his players and shakes his Pom poms like fleck does.
53:59 this is 100000% correct
"What looks inevitable in hindsight is often invisible with foresight." - Steven Kotler. For many of the years immediately preceding Zim, Vikes defense couldn't stop a nosebleed. His defenses, when healthy, were stout. Injuries and sub par draft picks are hard to overcome. He should have adjusted his leadership style to the changing times and built better player relationships, but he coached how his mentors coached. He's human. Glad we had him for awhile, sorry they didn't win it all, wish him nothing but happiness. Onward. Skol!
Zimmer just proved what a piece of garbage he is. He can add that to his failed Head coach career.
I always wondered who else the Vikings could have drafted in the 3rd round
Niko Collins is the only notable name. Other than that, it was trash.
Honestly not much. Mond/Jones would’ve been the same. But instead of Surrat they could’ve gotten McNeil or Osa at DT (both starters), and Quinn Meinerz (stud) at Guard instead of Wyatt Davis (Ben Cleveland/Kendrick Green probably would’ve started for us and not be very good but still better than Wyatt).
Mike Zimmer needs professional counseling or otherwise, his tenure with Cowboys will be short.
I'll say this until I'm blue in the face, Zimmer should've been fired after that debacle of a game against the Bears. After winning the last 2 or 3 games I believe and all they had to do was win.
