I think Zim was a great head coach, but after their 2017 season, it seems like that was when something in him snapped and his ego blew up. Andy, as usual, you nailed it, Zim is petty and small. The best leadership is servant based leadership!! The thing for me was in a QB driven league, Zim took 4 YEARS to meet with and Coach his QB?? He always came across as a miserable SOB…😔
Mike Zimmer after 2 seasons - 18-14 and a first round loss in the playoffs. Kevin O'Connell after 2 seasons - 20-14 and a first round loss in the playoffs. While KOC's playoff loss was much worse than Zimmer's, the two coaches are essentially the same in terms of head coaching success. KOC may be nicer to the players but it will be interesting to see who ends up with the better winning percentage with the Vikings.
When Zim first got hired we also had Norv Turner as OC and he ended up quitting cause Zimmer would try to tell him how to run the offense. Trying to just have the offense not lose the game instead of going out there and trying to win the game.
You really can't look at Zimmer without looking at Spielman. Spielman had a really good run for about 5 years finding defensive talent, and to be fair, he did find Stephon Diggs, Kyle Rudolph and CJ Ham, but hie good pick run ended in 2017 on the defensive side, once Joseph left they did not have a good Defensive Tackle since, from 2006 to 2019, there was a pro bowl caliber Defensive Tackle, and we havent had one since, the DT matters way more than was the media claims.
Apparently you haven't been alive that long. The Vikings did go to 4 Super Bowls. Yeah it was a long time ago, but that's still more times than some other teams have been there.
Now it’s clear why if took so long for Zimmer to get a head coach job. People around the league knew much more than us! I wish him all the best! I just hope he gets some help! It must be exhausting to be so angry and being so bitter towards others!
I wasn't a fan of spielman towards the end. But after all this, I respect him a lot more than Zimmer because he has taken the high road and not thrown others under the bus for his own gain. Zimmer has shown who he is, and what Spielman had to try to deal with.
I can understand being upset about how things went and people airing some dirty laundry about you. The fact that he told 2 people he was close with they are "Done" after they said some mild criticism about him says a lot though. No introspective on how things could have been done better, just grudges and complaints.
Decision that exposed all of Zimm's character flaws was his terrible decision to cut K Daniel Carlson after the infamous OT game vs the 🧀 heads in 2018. Rookie K, in an intense game against the Vikings arch enemy. Pressure got to Carlson and he missed three FGs. Instead of reassuring a very young rookie, saying that game turned into a pressure cooker for any K, he just fired the kid. Minnesota guy. Vikes never recovered at K and Carlson went to Da Raiderzz and had barely missed a kick since then. Mean, quick tempered, held grudges, and blamed players for coaching deficiencies. Good luck CBoys. You're going to need it with him scowling around looking for scapegoats
Loved Zim. But dude drop the past. Come on dude. The Vikings are the only org ever to give you a HC job. Don’t trash your legacy. I’ll find a way to forget this, but you need to move on and cheer on the org that supported you for years
Zimmer was an a$$ hat, then and now. He actually tore apart the 2017-2018 apart after CASE showed he could do it. The whole team won DESPITE Zimmer and after HE I'm sure wanted to get rid of him and chose cousins as he knew cousins needed/excelled with words of affirmation and then never spoke but 3 words a week for 4 years ALL so he could get the perfect defense he wanted and he'd use a heavy defense to win SB, he didn't change with the times...he needs to retire
That’s just totally wrong. Zimmer was a defensive coach who had the best defense in 2017 and the league couldn’t figure out his mug blitz on 3rd downs(excluding the eagles)
Well, at least we have something else to talk about besides whether Jaren Hall (urp) will return to the Practice Squad, until our first game next Sunday (FINALLY !)
And he should have. The culture changed when the Vikings got Cousins. Sim Brought us a #1 defense. And you just totally disregarded him. I would be pissed also. He is a Superbowl coach and he got his whole cap taken away. And also Keenum Lead us to Championship game and got dropped the next year. And then Eric Kendricks says he was fearful? WTF!!!!!!!
Older, tough-guy, defensive minded coaches like Zimmer find it hard to mentor quarterbacks and keep Head Coaching jobs. At least he admitted it. Will be interesting to see how Dallas's defense performs this year.
Sounds like the guy would rather have people bring their problems to him rather than hear it on a podcast. Seems reasonable, he’s a straight up guy who values discipline.

What does the phrase ‘success with the Vikings’ mean. I haven’t ever seen anything like that.
Apparently you haven't been alive that long. The Vikings did go to 4 Super Bowls. Yeah it was a long time ago, but that's still more times than some other teams have been there.
Zimmer shows his true colors in this interview. Says all you need to know about him
Now it’s clear why if took so long for Zimmer to get a head coach job.
Zimmer has shown who he is, and what Spielman had to try to deal with.
cowboys vs falcons is gonna be a spectacle
I’ll find a way to forget this, but you need to move on and cheer on the org that supported you for years
Same. Him dumping on Newman was the final evidence to me. Hate that he left the way.
I thought he was some kind of funny grumpy dude, kind of Grinch from the movies
It seems he's more like Grinch from the lore
Sorry but I always thought he was a clown and didnt deserve all the years he had in Minnesota should have been fired 2 yrs b4 he was
Zimmer was a good coach with the Vikes, but he was a defensive minded guy, so the offense was always going to be back of the bus.
Hard to argue with his take on Kellon Mond ! 😆
As Andy coined, Defensive Coordinator with a challenge flag.
I was happy to get him but also happy he’s out as head coach. He has an old man, stubborn mentality
Kind of sounds like Jerry Kill when he left the Gophers.
This is dumbest comment on here, nothing comes close to Hersall Walker
Welcome to Dallas Zim
Good job. Zimmer obviously doesn't care about his Mn legacy. He should have kept his mouth shut.
Zimmer was old school, you could predict play after play, and he seemed to be losing confidence and ground every season.
Love Zim. Kirk Cousins deal was the beginning of the end .
Zimmer was just a DC that was given the HC position. You could tell he wasn't fit for the position when he neglected half the team.
Well, at least we have something else to talk about besides whether Jaren Hall (urp) will return to the Practice Squad, until our first game next Sunday (FINALLY !)
Hey Zimmer used to throw that challenge flag too
And he should have. WTF!!!!!!!
Bottom Line, Zimmer's down fall. His lack of communication fortified with diplomacy.
Trying to refute a toxic atmosphere by putting out a toxic piece like this? 1000 IQ move, Zim.
zimmer:
Long memory
Short temper
Older, tough-guy, defensive minded coaches like Zimmer find it hard to mentor quarterbacks and keep Head Coaching jobs. At least he admitted it. Will be interesting to see how Dallas's defense performs this year.
No weekly meeting with the starting QB and I knew he had to go
Zimmer took it personal.
It was the Blair Walsh missed kick he never recovered and was just an angry old man after that
There are 3 sides to every story.
You really expect anything different from this guy,,..Do I want to address the team? No I see them in practice every day.
Zim seems like a guy who would hold grudges.
Accountability must not be part of his vocabulary
Sounds like the guy would rather have people bring their problems to him rather than hear it on a podcast. Seems reasonable, he’s a straight up guy who values discipline.
Man what’s with all the Vikings hate?
All eyes on Jayron Kearse
We never should have hired him as HC if we hired him as DC from the start I believe the results would have been much better
Zimmer was right about Kirk.
I still love coach Zimmer
It was Spielman's fault too
is there a reason he keeps calling him Curt Cousins? am I missing a joke?
Bet he wouldn’t be talking all that trash if we played this year. I hope we see them in the playoffs we all know what the Cowgirls do in the playoffs.
