      Mullen has been known around college football circles for years as being a lazy recruiter; hence why he's in Bristol now and not rehabbing his career as an offensive coordinator somewhere-as schools need dawgs as recruiters. Look at Miami, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, etc. Mullen is a terrible top choice for a big program, while no other big program even wants him calling the shots with their offense if he's not going to help bring in talent. Napier was always a cheap hire, too-but Mullen wasn't the answer and the desperation here to brig back an over the hill Urban Meyer is hilarious. He had a perfect storm run at Florida he'd never be able to re-create, while spending his remain career measured by it in Gainesville.

    Matt Barrie is such a Mullen apologist, it's actually hysterical. Yes, Mullen did take Florida to three straight NY6 bowl games. Yes, Florida fans didn't like it when he brushed off comments in a press conference about recruiting.
    But he completely ignored the fact that during the 2020 season, Mullen was acting like a petulant child both on and off the field. He wanted to pack the Swamp with 90k fans during a pandemic after getting embarrassed by A&M. He practically started a fight right at half time of the Missouri game. He got embarrassed in the home finale by losing to a bad LSU team when Florida was favored to win by almost 4 touchdowns. They played Bama tough in the SEC Championship (despite terrible defensive performances), but then they got embarrassed by Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl, only for Dan to say Florida’s bowl game was Alabama previously.
    Then during the offseason, Mullen tries to get out of UF by having it float around multiple channels that he wants to coach in the NFL. Sadly for him, the NFL didn't (and still hasn't) responded to his request. Then the 2021 season fell completely apart because Mullen refused to hold bad assistant coaches accountable (Grantham & Hevesy) and refused to start Anthony Richardson over Emory Jones (until it was too late).
    There are so many reasons as to why Mullen had to be gone from Florida after 2021. I agree that Napier was a major downgrade (worst coach in program history), but it's asinine to think Mullen was the perfect coach that Florida got rid of without reason.

    I give the administration at UF most of the blame. Very poor coaching hires and an absolute failure to give the program the recourses it needed to maintain its competitive edge. Jeez. I live in Gainesville. These guys are wrong about so many things. Spurrier left because his ego thought he could coach in the NFL. Mullen probably would have been more successful but he had similar ego issues

  • @tee4tx729
    @tee4tx729 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Well, they have Spurrier already there in Gainesville. I wouldn’t sell Spurrier short. Why not ask him if he’d be an interim head coach there? I think that, though he’d probably turn it down, it might be worth asking him. I know it’s been a long time since he has coached. But . . . He is an alumnus of that university, while Meyer is not. He is there (in Gainesville), while Meyer is not. He is not working in sports right now, while Meyer may be. And there may be more possibility that Spurrier would take interim than Meyer, let alone Saban. At least, IF he would agree, Spurrier would be short term, and he’d most likely be better than the current coach. It might be worth considering that no matter who might agree to be an interim, he’d feel it a necessity to make other coaching changes rather than try to work with what they currently have. And, they’d most likely all believe that this team needs more than a few months to get the fundamentals ingrained.

    Lol this shows it doesn’t take much knowledge to get on ESPN. I said before Mullen got hired that he was an 8 win coach. His Florida team that finished closest to the CFP finished 8-4 coincidentally.
    Everybody knows what happened with Mullen. Barrie just can’t hide his disdain towards Florida cause they fired his buddy (rightfully so).

    Meyer would never go back. Especially coaching a team that is not up to the talent level of player that he's had. Nick Saban would not come. That's a farce. The only solution that the Gators have is to hire Jimbo Fisher. He's not coaching now, he can recruit, he's won a NC and he'd probably want to get back at FSU for all the problems he had there. That's just my opinion.

We don’t Need Kiffin that’s for sure he’s an arrogant SOB and that doesn’t win ball games. At the end of the day, gator fans need to realize this season is doomed, time to move on, prepare for the future.

    Urban is so retired, bro has left the chat....Coach O is available haha! He was a successful interim at USC. He knows how to coach DL and linebackers. Of course HC of LSU's 2019 Natty team. He's honestly the best option to bring in for 3 months if they fire Napier mid-way through this season, and he made enough money off LSU he won't mind coming in for a limited time only. But maybe even keep Oregon on the defensive staff under a new HC, if he's behaving...

    Not defending Napier, but this take on Mullen is way off. Mullen played favorites, didn’t address or change his assistants when needed, quit on the team and totally lost the locker room. His recruiting rankings weren’t terrible, but half of his classes never set foot on campus. Mullen is a great game day coach and strategist. He’s not a program leader or elite recruiter.
