so practise… you really only need to work on powershots (getting power whenever) catches and dribbles (sometimes it’s good to slow down or 1v1 situations) and be comfortable in the air (i’d say learn air roll but it’s literally a drug, you won’t take your finger off it when u learn it but your countrol will sky rocket)
Main point I think loads of people do is the last one. Either go or rotate to the good position. Hesitation is one of the few things lower ranks do that you never see pros do which is one reason why they are so good
Keep in mind that most of Luke's tips only apply to you if you want to reach GC. NOT ANYTHING ABOVE THAT. If you want to reach GC3/SSL some day for example, you need to be putting a ton of hours into mechanics aswell. Luke's content focuses on getting ppl to GC, not to any rank above that
@@Glaxothecringe I feel like you are waay overplaying the mechs of ppl in C3. Your simple ball handling, dribbling, saves etc. are way above that of the average C3. Even if your mechs are truly at a C3 level, you'd be such a rare exception that it doesn't affect the general point imo

this is good for not even champs, but for diamonds and even champs as well, im starting to try and get my mechs + aerial/car/ball control better so im losing a bit of game sense, this helps me recover alot of that.

@@swolebread2313 can confirm as a C2 nearly C3. Play doesn’t get much better 😂 they’re just more consistent with their touches/placement and faster at making decisions. Starts to get a bit better in C2 but definitely not C1 I still spend a load of time when solo queuing 2’s going “what on earth are you doing?” - “how do people still ball chase in mid/high champ” - “does this guy really not know what Backpost rotate is?” 😅
I'm low ranked. I have the worst mechanics & car control in any game I'm in. Whether its high silver (when I fall) or mid plat(1v1 & 3v3s) or mid diamond (2v2s) when I'm peaking. So I'm not a player that relies on mechanics. I legit can't drive into the ball straight. When I play, Im not questioning why everyone else is doing what they're doing, thinking everyone's stupid. I only care when there's a collision between me and teammates or my teammate is flaming me for having crap mechanics and missing a hit, shot or save after contributing to the situation and not putting themselves in position to aid me. But I still feel I can understand how or why they've done what they did, even if I don't like them shifting the blame to me. My mechanics are what they are. Ill only hit the shots I can hit.

Mechanical fails happen and there’s nearly always something you should’ve done better yourself. You can think your tm is crazy but being toxic towards them won’t help anything. Im gc2, and honestly i always thought gc2 would have people doing quadrillion reset pogo flicks but its mostly positioning, rotating, good goal keeping, some mechs here and there.
I don't even expect advanced mechanics in SSL games. Lots of SSLs or Pros even you see in Yt challenges struggle with a basic flip reset, air dribble, dribble flick, ceiling shot or double touch on the first try in Freeplay challenges.
I think good goalkeeping isn’t spoken about enough as a way to rank up. Everyone wants to hit sparkly shots but it’s so infuriating when you lose by a goal after having twice the amount of shots as the other team but their goalkeeping has just been a brick wall

It's like the mechs are there but the game doesn't revolve around them. It's not a surprise when someone pulls off a cool mech
I’m in champ and I have almost 0 mechanics. My aerial control is just basic. My ground control is basic. Accurate to some degree but still have no real control. All that keeps me in champ is my game sense and how I pressure the opponent. Defensively I’m quite good but because I can’t do fancy stuff, I have more tm8s than not that just straight up call me trash and change sides. They hate shadow defence. They constantly break position to come and rescue me when I don’t need rescuing, I need them to stay in position. Whenever I set myself up for any kind of wall mechanic they take the ball off me. And this is in champ. I end up back down to D3/D2 and then I have all these D2 players just slamming the ball and hoping and then kicking off at me because I don’t do the same 😂 they quit before they’ve even give me chance. And then they call me a boosted champ becuase I have the rewards. It’s annoying AF

Had a few mind-bending games last night where the other team was hitting beautiful flip resets and then absolutely made the worst defensive decisions and let us walk the ball in... I've never understood how people can spend 100+ hours on mechanics when it takes 1/50th of the time to learn how to defend them (I mean obviously do both but might as well learn how to defend against the easy stuff before picking up the crazy stuff)
This is wrong. I believe it is definitely is quicker and easier to train mechanics. to learn gamesense you must consciously override old habits to make new ones and keep doing that on smaller levels to perfect a certain part of a play style. some mechanics can be learned in minutes with a quick youtube video or friend.
I disagree. I think those who are always in Freeplay, always learning new mechanics rise. Those that aren't, get stuck. I've changed how I position and play quite a bit over the last several seasons but my Rank's falling. Unfortunately those who go all in on training mechanics, while they are superior and on their way up, they're real assholes to deal with as teammates. They get so upset seeing me struggle with shots, saves or hits they can hit in their sleep. Even if we're the same rank.
I think you can override your habits and completely change your playstyle if you fully commit, in just a few sessions. By fully commit, I mean deliberately throw games by spending all your focus on the new behaviors and spending the rest of the time in replays deciding all the dumb crap you're doing you should chuck away. One difficulty though is people can be making positional or play mistakes because their mechanics suck. Crap mechanics can also limit what plays it's possible to make. If you can barely even drive into the ball like me. There aren't a lot of good attacking plays you can reliably make.

Not even cleaner, just quicker. Everything he talked about in this video was position/rotation based (gamesense = knowing where to be and when)(mechanics = knowing how and where to hit the ball) so the skill doesn't change between d3 to c1, people just turn for the ball faster, challenge faster etc, because they are in a position to go for it sooner because they position better. I think spookluke and a few other content creators have made Road To GC videos using ''no'' mechanics just to prove you don't need flashy tricks to rank up. Just pressure until it hurts :P

Spookluke doesn't really play with low mechanics though. I saw one player trying to get through diamond with no aerial (more a challenge series). There's famously Flakes who I think does it better. I think his understanding and positioning are better than spookluke's though. That does break down for Flakes in GC though. At GC level he has to exploit his very high level ground ball control, superior accuracy and speed around the field to keep up.
I got to gc just wit my mechanics, don’t let him lie to you, just focus the good ones air dribbles, great flicks, and just good ball control here’s what I like to say, if they can’t touch the ball they cannot score! Chow!
This video ain't for me cuz I'm still a diamond but, *let me tell you something* the vast majority of teammates i got has no sense of team play 💀 so i think you should add also they, "remember you got a teammate" for the solo playing people
As a gc1, I usually assume my teammate doesn’t see me on the field so I play more defensive while solo queuing. So not moving side by side and not expecting passes helps a lot when your teammates don’t have gamesense. Maybe this will help you too
@@semvangansewinkel6345 that's true, in diamond is hard but you can try th squeeze everything out your mates. Try to adapt to their strengths/ playstyle. We never good mates who do the same, try to become the best teammate you yourself. That's how I got from d2 to c1.
Yeah, but remembering you have a teammate also involves being aware of where they are on the field and not assuming ones tm8 is going to be exactly where one thinks they ought to be. Considering the average age for RL players is in the teens, that's a big ask when most people are that age are self-absorbed and egotistical. 😅
From your 2nd comment, sounds like you're the problem. If you winning games relies on teammates always going for your centres and always scoring them, you're just not good enough to advance and you're also probably a bad teammate, the type everyone in this thread was describing. Stop expecting your teammates to play in a certain way. Rely on your own self to win, take responsibility for your own mistakes. If you improve your OWN playing, you WILL rise in rank.

No, consistency is a separate thing. Having consistency and game sense gonna get you very far. Consistency applies to mechs. Game sense is about knowing what to do. Consistent game sense does not sound like a useful term. If you know what to do and you have the mechanical ability to do this (here I refer to all mechs, even the most basic ones like precise driving and turning) then you will succeed. Notice there is no consistent game sense in that equation
@@MrPinkDino so if i word it like this: if you fuck up an air dribble then it's a mechanical mistake. If you fuck up rotation or double commit then is a game sense mistake. The less of either topic means you are more consistent at them. Therefore you have consistency in game sense as well. Game sense is essentially decision making whether it's intentional or not.

@@MrPinkDino you could argue the that the more your exposure to situations e.g. math or rocket league. Some people are more natutally able to understand the process. It doesn't necessarily need to be something you train. You can't train positioning in rocket league but u can actively think about it during your games. That is what will end up building consistency in your positioning and decision making
I'm really losing interest in this game, the ranks are all messed up, everyone is so toxic, the rankings put me so far out of my deserved rank that I just get demolished to where I can't even touch the ball. Then I get a lot of grief from people for not being any good. I didn't think anything could ruin this game for me, it's sad cause I used to really love it.

Focus on your gameplay and skills if you want to get better. Use your progression of learning new techniques, power, precision & accuracy. And look at where you're getting beat and not in position to impede opponents bringing the ball to your goal as measures of your skill instead of rank. If you see in replays that you spend lots of time in situations where you cant reach the ball easily AND your goal faster than opponents can hit the ba there. That's the issue, not your gold rank. Same with mechanics. How can you move your car, how well do you control the ball, how well do you hit the ball. Worrying about stagnating/getting stuck in your skill, not rank if you want to worry

I am Champ stuck for life, and Im done babysitting tm8s. You are correct almost 0 percent of Champ has any gamesense at all. Also the mistake this guy in the vid are making are generally small. I would love to have tm8 making such small mistakes. You shouldnt have to be perfect to win. Spacing and anticipation is a large majority of wins. If i get a tm8 that gets it we win, if I dont we lose. I trust tm8 and probably shouldnt. Smart wins and nobodys ego can handle the truth. Its laughable.
Can't say this was very useful for me but cool I'm good but not as good as I used to be so solo q is a bit hard as I'm not so good carrying my tm8s as I used to be so it's not quite easy to win

Lucas, I like these videos, but they are kinda misleading. I was expecting some sad truth to be revealed that explains why a lot of people get stuck at champ, but it's just a replay analysis.

thats not entirely true. I hit mid GC3 every season and I have the mechs of a C3

same with pros you will usually just see good touches and good rotation

What do I do if I got to Champ with game sense alone and no mechanics? Do I reverse all tips to get to GC?
This video ain't for me cuz I'm still a diamond but, *let me tell you something* the vast majority of teammates i got has no sense of team play 💀 so i think you should add also they, "remember you got a teammate" for the solo playing people
As a gc1, I usually assume my teammate doesn’t see me on the field so I play more defensive while solo queuing. So not moving side by side and not expecting passes helps a lot when your teammates don’t have gamesense. Maybe this will help you too
@@semvangansewinkel6345 that's true, in diamond is hard but you can try th squeeze everything out your mates. Try to adapt to their strengths/ playstyle. We never good mates who do the same, try to become the best teammate you yourself. That's how I got from d2 to c1.
Yeah, but remembering you have a teammate also involves being aware of where they are on the field and not assuming ones tm8 is going to be exactly where one thinks they ought to be.
Considering the average age for RL players is in the teens, that's a big ask when most people are that age are self-absorbed and egotistical. 😅

From your 2nd comment, sounds like you're the problem. If you winning games relies on teammates always going for your centres and always scoring them, you're just not good enough to advance and you're also probably a bad teammate, the type everyone in this thread was describing.
Stop expecting your teammates to play in a certain way. Rely on your own self to win, take responsibility for your own mistakes. If you improve your OWN playing, you WILL rise in rank.

No, consistency is a separate thing. Having consistency and game sense gonna get you very far.
Consistency applies to mechs.
Game sense is about knowing what to do.
Consistent game sense does not sound like a useful term. If you know what to do and you have the mechanical ability to do this (here I refer to all mechs, even the most basic ones like precise driving and turning) then you will succeed. Notice there is no consistent game sense in that equation
@@MrPinkDino so if i word it like this: if you fuck up an air dribble then it's a mechanical mistake. If you fuck up rotation or double commit then is a game sense mistake. The less of either topic means you are more consistent at them. Therefore you have consistency in game sense as well. Game sense is essentially decision making whether it's intentional or not.
@@cheesysnailburgers5885 technically yes, but you don't train game sense consistency. It's just a way to describe the result of learning game sense. Just not a very useful one. If you learn how to add, you will get the right answer of 2+2=? more consistently. You weren't training math consistency, you learned how to add.
@@MrPinkDino you could argue the that the more your exposure to situations e.g. math or rocket league. Some people are more natutally able to understand the process. It doesn't necessarily need to be something you train. You can't train positioning in rocket league but u can actively think about it during your games. That is what will end up building consistency in your positioning and decision making

I'm really losing interest in this game, the ranks are all messed up, everyone is so toxic, the rankings put me so far out of my deserved rank that I just get demolished to where I can't even touch the ball. Then I get a lot of grief from people for not being any good. I didn't think anything could ruin this game for me, it's sad cause I used to really love it.
Are you saying the game ranks you higher than you should be?
This doesn't make any sense to me. If you can't keep up you lose and drop rank and play against less skilled opponents...
@@Wordbird69 thats not true , since the game is full with smurfs and people they boosted nowadays (thx to f2p). this game in any mode above 1s is unplayable solo q nowadays. it doesnt matter at what rank u look also. the problem is consistent throughout all ranks. the matchmaking was much more better and consistent before it went f2p. there is also reasons why u dont see any roads to with a player solo q, this aint the old years. community is very small and toxic unfortunately on top of that, if u say otherwise then u just a delusional epic fanboy.

How long have you been playing rocket league for?
Focus on your gameplay and skills if you want to get better. Use your progression of learning new techniques, power, precision & accuracy. And look at where you're getting beat and not in position to impede opponents bringing the ball to your goal as measures of your skill instead of rank.
If you see in replays that you spend lots of time in situations where you cant reach the ball easily AND your goal faster than opponents can hit the ba there. That's the issue, not your gold rank.
Same with mechanics. How can you move your car, how well do you control the ball, how well do you hit the ball.
Worrying about stagnating/getting stuck in your skill, not rank if you want to worry

I am Champ stuck for life, and Im done babysitting tm8s. You are correct almost 0 percent of Champ has any gamesense at all. Also the mistake this guy in the vid are making are generally small. I would love to have tm8 making such small mistakes. You shouldnt have to be perfect to win. Spacing and anticipation is a large majority of wins. If i get a tm8 that gets it we win, if I dont we lose. I trust tm8 and probably shouldnt. Smart wins and nobodys ego can handle the truth. Its laughable.

Can't say this was very useful for me but cool I'm good but not as good as I used to be so solo q is a bit hard as I'm not so good carrying my tm8s as I used to be so it's not quite easy to win

Lucas, I like these videos, but they are kinda misleading. I was expecting some sad truth to be revealed that explains why a lot of people get stuck at champ, but it's just a replay analysis.
