Hey, Orange Zapinator works with Meteor armor, deals 100 damage per shot when it's not drunk, and sometimes it can multiply the damage. Or get stuck in the enemy. Either way, works like a charm

Still Leaf Wings are not needed or viable for this reason as well as the Clentaminator, as getting Tiki armor and Steampunk Wings are higher priority. Everyone's asking about money, but I think a more interesting question is - how are you going to get the chests to place everywhere you don't want the meteor to fall? You can't pick them up from around the world, there's no way you get enough iron from chest loot to craft them, and to my knowledge, no npc sells chests. @@icicleditor yeah i was thinking that, if you can buy stuff form NPCs just fine, theres probably a bunch of cool tricks that they could implement just by using wiring alone
For the meteor, you don’t have to chest proof the world, you can just build a long platform of stone slabs, that will act as a “wall” for the meteor, narrowing its landing areas to large enough holes in the “wall”
Is skeletron actually required? I could swear that it isn't required to do a normal playthrough, unless it doesnt allow the lunatic cultists to spawn since the old man will still be there?
Something you'll have to consider is the limited amount of blocks in chests to build viable housing. The only material that can build everything necessary for a house is wood, and torches can also be in surface chests. If you get lucky though, you should have enough for the travelling merchant to show up, and then by dynasty wood. However, considering that money is limited, you may not want to spend unless you really have to.
There's one interesting thing you didn't mention: Fishing. Fishing up items bypasses the Encumbering Stone, which would grant a whole new slew of items. However, the issue is that fishing requires bait. As far as I can tell, every way to obtain bait requires either picking up dropped items (critters caught with the bug net) or fishing itself (jellyfish). It's worth noting that fishing does NOT grant access to crate loot, as grab bags are still affected by the Encumbering Stone - you can only obtain items directly from fishing. Still, this seems like an option worth looking into.
@@memded5432 Like I already said, grab bag items can't be used with the Encumbering Stone. They just drop their contents on the ground. That applies to crates, and it also applies to the can of worms.

Can say the new update would make this run not only possible but fun. Given they say they are adding a type of hopper and vertical conveyors for items. So you can chest loot everything.
You can make some houses in a glowing mushroom biome (idk if the required blocks are obtainable tho) and get the truffle to move in, who sells the hammush which can break altars.
You can still fish with the encumbering stone, so looting some can of worms at the start + fiberglass rod lets you get some crates for heart crystals. For more bait you can do angler quests or get them from crates
Not entirely sure it matters, but by placing the Dryad in a glowing mushroom biome you can get access to said biome’s seeds to make a surface glowing mushroom house for the truffle, which opens up the Hammush and Mushroom Spear, though they’re post-mech. But hey, that’s two more hardmode melee weapons!
if im not mistaken im pretty sure you are vastly overestimating the resources available through chests. without item pickups (im pretty sure that counts money) you are very limited in resources and therefore money. i may be wrong but i dont think you will have the money for everything
In hardmode, I suspect most of our money will come from the tax collector, but in prehardmode we have to make do with what we can get by selling items.
To break the altars for natural mech boss spawns, you could get the hammush from the Truffle npc. You would first get mushroom grass seeds from the Dryad in the underground mushroom biome then plant them in the surface jungle and hope the jungle doesn’t override the surface mushroom biome
BTW, this run is going to get easier soon. Relogic is adding hoppers + vert. conveyer belts (which are sold) so you could just deposit items in chests like that.
Upon the release of 1.4.5, item Hoppers would be added to the game that would allow you to take dropped items from the ground, have them put into a chest and then be picked up by the player! This run is only truly hard pre 1.4.5!
in this desperate, hellish times at our wits end and with no other options someone might finally, after all these years unironically use the proximity mine launcher
this challenge run becomes significantly less interesting after the next update, when they add hoppers although, that'll depend on how and where you craft them.
Idk how good it would be with your movement, but for the golem fight i've seen people "cheese" it with teleporters which teleports you on the other side of the room while you keep dodging in the same direction, and they are now pre-golem
it's funny how this probably won't even be a challenge when 1.4.5 drops, as they're supposedly adding a feature that can move dropped items into chests
Absolutely HUGE thing that was overlooked in this run, the Tavernkeeper. Not only does he sell armor, but you can use all the sentries as they only cost 5-15 mana each. The first armor is available after any mech boss and the second set after Golem. I'm not sure how well it scales on Master Mode, but I do remember using full sentry armour/weapons to defeat the Moonlord in the past.
@@Starfloofle Shit really? Now that you mention that I think I recall them "dropping". I suppose the free 5 medals at the beginning don't make much of a difference either for pre-hardmode gear =\
Well, you got your answer about medals, so I just wanted to add that tier 1 armor is good (surely better than what you can get in this run) and tier 2 is very strong
getting money is gonna be really difficult. you might have to do a large world just to maximise the amount of chests that exist in the world, or otherwise allow switching worlds.
just go fishinf for life crystals using a wooden fishing rod to eventually get the gold fishing rod from fishing quests from the top of my head, im sure there is another fishing rod available in between. im pretty sure bait is just automatically put into your inventory like fishing drops so it should work like fishing does as it saids on the wiki
More certain than not (although do test for this later on!) that dungeon loot generation is actually predetermined and depends on the order of the chests, top-to-bottom So theoretically getting a specific loot from a locked chest shouldn't be RNG-dependant on chest loot tables
Hardmode Mushroom biome! Truffle sells you both a good spear AND a hammer capable of breaking Demon Altars... but only after defeating a mech boss and having a surface mushroom biome. Maybe the Clentaminator on Surface Jungle could do it?
What about starting in celebrationmk10 world? That would allow us to buy pirate staff post-plantera, which should increase our damage. That would also allow to buy coin gun, that potentially could be good damage source? (if tax collector is an option). Sergeants shield could also be a pretty good option, if paired with flares to despawn all projectiles from bosses. It grants 20 defence when raised, meaning that we could get 94 defence with ticky armor (35 from armor, 20 from warding, 20 from shield, 5 from bast statue, 8 from potion (i expect us to find at least 3-4 in chests), 4 from food, 1 from shackles, 1 from cobalt shield)? i dont know, if it will be useful or not, but possibility itself is interesting. Also 500% buff to melee damage after parrying could be usefull, if yoyos are an option.
Well, i've been looking for a channel that goes all-in on challenge runs - looks like i found what I've been looking for! Will other worlds be used as "Mulligans" if, as an example, meteors refuse to break altars in the Run's world? Or would the whole run be restarted before swapping worlds; even if you find yourself needing only one more chest's coins to get an item?
How are you going to obtain the money needed for all your purchases? Will chest loot be enough? Even if the chests give you a decent amount I still would be cautious since you can't really farm money in this playthrough (as far as I can tell at least) and each death means guaranteed loss of money Looking at the wiki I noticed that encumbering stone doesn't prevent you from getting fishing loot although your access to bait is very limited. As for the rod you can buy one from the mechanic or traveling merchant I was also wondering if the hammush is going to be useful but it can only be obtained after 1 mech boss
Money - either chest loot or the Tax Collector, which gives us an infinite source. Fishing is not prevented by the stone, but we can’t get bait at all. Cans of Worms are grab bags and drop on the ground. I haven’t really looked into the Truffle, since we can’t obtain mud and getting a surface mushroom biome would be a pain in the ass.
@@Terraw oh yeah, forgot about the tax collector and the fact that opening the cans won't work Getting truffle could work but only if there was an option to get dirt or mud without breaking blocks and I can't think of any at the moment. If it's possible then you could build a path to the surface allowing the grass to spread
You can't get the white string required for the yoyo bag Regardless, the goblin tinkerer is also unobtainable, as you can't get a natural goblin army due to having less than 200HP, and you can't pick up tattered cloth to create a battle standard.
can you buy a fishing rod from the mechanic, then using some worm cans found in surface chests fish for crates to get enough hardmode ores to make a hammer? (Idk if those can break alters or not) rather than waiting for a meteor LOL
I actually thought about this awhile ago and would be interested in trying it myself at some point. So I won't be watching but I shall like and comment for the algorithm.
Okay but the mushroom hammer from the truffle, correct me if I'm wrong but for the truffle don't you just need a house in a mushroom biome, not a mushroom biome on the surface?
You don’t need to use chests to invalidate meteor spawns, a sky bridge made of platforms should work just as well. It’s how I made a meteorite themed build in my pre hardmode world
the problem then becomes sourcing the platforms, you can get dynasty wood and team platforms from the traveling merchant but that's really luck dependent and would require shitloads of money
As an alternative to some things (esp. in late game), how about explosives, particularly pre-made setups with lots of wiring? You can buy most things from the mechanic, and between the mechanic and the demolitionist (I assume a bomb from a chest to get him to move in, but skeleton merchant would also work) you can get everything you need for explosives or land mines (or rockets) hooked up relevant wiring... I mean, "Terraria with only traps" has been done; obviously this would be somewhat different but IIRC that video killed ML with just rockets easily, so it's probably better than the alternative [unless i-frame changes ruin that plan, I don't remember how long ago that run was done] Another question: can you catch critters with a net to make explosive bunnies?

To break the altars for natural mech boss spawns, you could get the hammush from the Truffle npc. You would first get mushroom grass seeds from the Dryad in the underground mushroom biome then plant them in the surface jungle and hope the jungle doesn’t override the surface mushroom biome
the hammer requires a mech boss kill.
This run is only truly hard pre 1.4.5!
in this desperate, hellish times
at our wits end and with no other options
someone might finally, after all these years
unironically use the proximity mine launcher
With lance being available in your kit, you can do a setup to oneshot bosses (mappy did a whole indepth guide)
this challenge run becomes significantly less interesting after the next update, when they add hoppers
although, that'll depend on how and where you craft them.
Idk how good it would be with your movement, but for the golem fight i've seen people "cheese" it with teleporters which teleports you on the other side of the room while you keep dodging in the same direction, and they are now pre-golem
what a hellish challenge!
This is a neat run-through. What is the texture pack you're using?
Won’t moon lord be impossible because of having such little dps? The moon leech clots will likely just heal back any damage that you’ve done
it's funny how this probably won't even be a challenge when 1.4.5 drops, as they're supposedly adding a feature that can move dropped items into chests
Absolutely HUGE thing that was overlooked in this run, the Tavernkeeper. Not only does he sell armor, but you can use all the sentries as they only cost 5-15 mana each. The first armor is available after any mech boss and the second set after Golem. I'm not sure how well it scales on Master Mode, but I do remember using full sentry armour/weapons to defeat the Moonlord in the past.
you cant pick up the medals
The problem is that the medals drop as items...
@@Starfloofle Shit really? Now that you mention that I think I recall them "dropping".
I suppose the free 5 medals at the beginning don't make much of a difference either for pre-hardmode gear =\
@@zancloufer At least you can use the first set of sentries, swapping as needed with shimmer, after beating the event once
Well, you got your answer about medals, so I just wanted to add that tier 1 armor is good (surely better than what you can get in this run) and tier 2 is very strong
I still have no idea why meteor armor negates the mana cost on zapinators too.
getting money is gonna be really difficult. you might have to do a large world just to maximise the amount of chests that exist in the world, or otherwise allow switching worlds.
just go fishinf for life crystals using a wooden fishing rod to eventually get the gold fishing rod from fishing quests from the top of my head, im sure there is another fishing rod available in between. im pretty sure bait is just automatically put into your inventory like fishing drops so it should work like fishing does as it saids on the wiki
More certain than not (although do test for this later on!) that dungeon loot generation is actually predetermined and depends on the order of the chests, top-to-bottom
So theoretically getting a specific loot from a locked chest shouldn't be RNG-dependant on chest loot tables
in 1.4.5 they are going to add hoppers or something similar so you can pick up items
(if it is craftable)
Hardmode Mushroom biome! Truffle sells you both a good spear AND a hammer capable of breaking Demon Altars... but only after defeating a mech boss and having a surface mushroom biome. Maybe the Clentaminator on Surface Jungle could do it?
The upgraded zapinator might be a good hardmode weapon.
Edit: nvm he knows
Can’t wait for sorbet cafe to run this
What about starting in celebrationmk10 world?
Cant wait!
I think this challenge will be easily done by the next update. When hoppers are added. If they work they way I think they do.
And... how do you get the money? Or does encumbering stone allow you to pick up money?
Bro streaming it within an hour of this
Well,
i've been looking for a channel that goes all-in on challenge runs - looks like i found what I've been looking for!
Will other worlds be used as "Mulligans" if, as an example, meteors refuse to break altars in the Run's world? Or would the whole run be restarted before swapping worlds; even if you find yourself needing only one more chest's coins to get an item?
🤣 omg you're really better than me in my favourite game man this is amazing
How are you going to obtain the money needed for all your purchases? Will chest loot be enough? Even if the chests give you a decent amount I still would be cautious since you can't really farm money in this playthrough (as far as I can tell at least) and each death means guaranteed loss of money
Looking at the wiki I noticed that encumbering stone doesn't prevent you from getting fishing loot although your access to bait is very limited. As for the rod you can buy one from the mechanic or traveling merchant
I was also wondering if the hammush is going to be useful but it can only be obtained after 1 mech boss
@@Terraw You mean getting a surface mushroom biome would be physically impossible.
@@Terraw oh yeah, forgot about the tax collector and the fact that opening the cans won't work
Getting truffle could work but only if there was an option to get dirt or mud without breaking blocks and I can't think of any at the moment. If it's possible then you could build a path to the surface allowing the grass to spread
@@kovexplay I think that might be an actual play if I’m really stuck. It sounds really funny
@@Terraw Does surface jungle work for mud
You could get a Yoyo Bag and yoyo from traveling merchant and skeleton merchant... though DPS by end game might be low
You can't get the white string required for the yoyo bag
Regardless, the goblin tinkerer is also unobtainable, as you can't get a natural goblin army due to having less than 200HP, and you can't pick up tattered cloth to create a battle standard.
@@DacuberTM Oh, man, that's right... At best, yoyo glove, counterweight, and a decent early hardmode yoyo... But, that's not much for late game.
can you buy a fishing rod from the mechanic, then using some worm cans found in surface chests fish for crates to get enough hardmode ores to make a hammer? (Idk if those can break alters or not) rather than waiting for a meteor LOL
oh shoot, fishing loot drops as an item...
when you try to open a crate or can of worms, the items drop onto the ground instead of going into your inventory 💔💔💔
Im pretty sure they plan on adding a hopper-like item in 1.4.5 so depending on how thats obtained it might end up trivialising this challenge
I cant wait till this gets done man. It looks like hell but its really interesting 😂😂
I hope you do end up doing this, I bet it would make for greatly entertaining content
i love this idea
I actually thought about this awhile ago and would be interested in trying it myself at some point. So I won't be watching but I shall like and comment for the algorithm.
I feel like this run will get a LOT easier when the hopper releases in 1.4.5
you could try to move the truffle in and get a mushroom hammer to brake the alters
Pick up the sun and throw it at the moon lord (it’s not an item right)
Okay but the mushroom hammer from the truffle, correct me if I'm wrong but for the truffle don't you just need a house in a mushroom biome, not a mushroom biome on the surface?
Has to be on the surface im pretty sure
Tragic that truffle doesn't sell hammush until one mech is defeated
Orange zapinator: *did someone say rng?*
bro are you reading my mind or something i was literally thinking about this like yesterday when i picked up an encumbering stone
You don’t need to use chests to invalidate meteor spawns, a sky bridge made of platforms should work just as well. It’s how I made a meteorite themed build in my pre hardmode world
the problem then becomes sourcing the platforms, you can get dynasty wood and team platforms from the traveling merchant but that's really luck dependent and would require shitloads of money
coins will be a giant problem with all the shopping i presume
imagine how different the run would be with hoppers coming in 1.4.5
You should be able to do something similar to the active stone block method for the altar-breaking.
This is gonna be so easy next update
As an alternative to some things (esp. in late game), how about explosives, particularly pre-made setups with lots of wiring?
You can buy most things from the mechanic, and between the mechanic and the demolitionist (I assume a bomb from a chest to get him to move in, but skeleton merchant would also work) you can get everything you need for explosives or land mines (or rockets) hooked up relevant wiring...
I mean, "Terraria with only traps" has been done; obviously this would be somewhat different but IIRC that video killed ML with just rockets easily, so it's probably better than the alternative [unless i-frame changes ruin that plan, I don't remember how long ago that run was done]
Another question: can you catch critters with a net to make explosive bunnies?
No, but... Weirdly enough the Pirate's cannons might be legitimately useful if he finds a way to solve the money problem.
FISH, you can get a fiberglass fishing pole and bait from angler/cans of worms, there you can get life crystals, ores, and a bunch of other stuff
Angler bait requires fishing in itself, and can of worms just dumps all the worms on the floor where you can't pick them up.
would love to see you do this run
You can get everything you need to use the jousting lance inner tube infinite damage exploit as soon as enter hardmode
