Bow hunting and scouting the River - HOGS & DEER
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 7 ก.พ. 2025
- This week, Clay is solo camping on the river, bow hunting and scouting for wild hogs and deer. The warm weather and full moon make the animals hard to find but there's lots of sign around. The river bottom is full of a variety of oaks and they're all dropping acorns which can create it's own problems. Join Clay has he stalks the Florida swamps with his self bow in search of a good bowhunting spot. The deer rut hasn't started here yet but it won't be long before bucks will start showing themselves in the daytime. The first cold snap should get the animals moving and Clay will be back waiting on them!
Don't forget to subscribe to the channel. We're uploading a new video each week that features one of the following topics: archery, bow hunting, bow building, survival skills, bushcraft, self reliance, primitive skills, primitive bows, hunting, camping, fishing, and a lot more!

Canned venison! The last time I was out by myself, I had canned Caribou (my aunt’s old school Nfld, with pork fat on top).
I was having big feed in my tent ( crossman & scott fish book) after a June Day Of salmon fishing…. I heard the bears around 2am. Didn’t get much sleep.
No more canned meat in my tent when I’m out alone.
You know, I watch these things and I’m so envious of people living in the US. The public land and the deer and the hunting and so forth. And then I think, thank goodness we have real cheese in the UK! 😉🤣🤣
😆
@@clayhayeshunter If I’m being honest, this is stuff dreams are made of. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Dahm the Clay Content just keeps rolling!! I am loving all of this!
Thank ya
That southern country is like a totally different world from my part of the country. Love following along. Reminds me of The Witchery of Archery
All that good food make you wish you were back on the alone show. Btw I don’t know anyone more deserving to win that show
Thank ya
a-curns lol Love it! love the channel!! you teach great bow practices and responsible hunting. thanks for sharing.
Clay using the old field Taco's trick to lure in the Hogs 😊
Lol. You ought to wrap those cameras in bubble wrap. Great video. Keep after em.
thumbs up just for the tacos! they looked good rest of video was good too thanks
They were gooooood!
It was good to get out scouting with ya Clay, thank you for taking us along.
Sure thing

You can count on it!
Thank you again Clay, love every second out with you👍
Glad to hear it
Another great video. Love the blooper at end
Alone seems to have helped your video skills too. Love making the trip w you. Keep it up!
Always enjoy your videos Clay ... Very down to earth and informative 👍👍
Glad you like them!
@@clayhayeshunter
From one Clay to another 👍👍
I enjoyed this one because my brother and I love to hunt public land around the Sulpher River in Texas.
Yep, it can be tough sometimes!
Very educational. Keep it up. Thanks
Thanks for taking us along with you during your hunt. Most people would've turned back with no sleeping bag but you probably took it as a challenge lol
Thanks for watching!
Some great shots in that one Clay, good work on the camera! Especially liked the turtle and the spider foreground shots.
Thanks much
Well at least you didn't forget the coffee, that would've been an early boat ride home 😁
There are only two essentials. Coffee and TP😆
@@clayhayeshunter yep 😅👍
Paying your dues!
Gotta do it!
This video answers 1 question I had. First time I recall you using a stand. I like the way you have stuff prepared for a meal verses opening a can of stew or chili. I need to follow suit. Keep up the good work.
Yeah, that makes it nice.
Hahahah!! I love that you said - gotta come back and get the camera!! So funny!!!!
😜
Really enjoy your videos. So much better then the rest! Maybe I missed it ? But I didn’t notice you having a safety harness on while you we’re in that climbing stand ? Did I miss it ? If you didn’t man don’t take that chance. I had a friend in high school who fell from a stand because he didn’t use a safety harness. Broke his neck & Was paralyzed from shoulders down for rest of his life. If u was wearing one & I missed it sorry. But if u wasn’t man don’t take that chance. You mean too much to your family Clay . Thanks for great outdoor videos & outdoor information.
Haha! "Gotta come back and get the camera"
That killed me
You do such a great job videoing your adventures! Banana spiders are way cool!
Except when they’re face high and you walk into one😬
Good stuff bother!!!
Much appreciated
Thanks clay
Any time
love some deer fajitas :)
Me too
Nice boat Clay
Thanks
The traditional bowhunters of Georgia are going to be hunting fort Stewart in January you should drive up.
It would be awesome to have you in camp. I know we could all learn a thing or two from you
I may do that
You should come to TN and try along the Duck River. Lots of public land and some dang good hunting. Plus 3 doe a day limit too
nice!
Your an inspiration to me like literally
thank ya
For the love of your family please put on a harness!!
will do
My sister's in Florida right now.
You should take her and her son out for a hunt! She wants to get a small alligator!
I've noticed you've upgraded your truck and boat after being on Alone , good for you.
I've still got the old powerwagon back in Idaho. This one will remain in Florida.
Great camera work
Thank you!
I really enjoy watching all aspects of your hunting expeditions! I’ve learned quite a bit. As a fan I’d like to be able to join a hunt sometime!
Thanks
As always, I'm impressed with your camera work and editing. There is a lot that goes into that. How in the world did you get those squirrels to cooperate?
Those darn squirrels hard to get any work out of. 😜
Second year hunter in the Panhandle here. Today I was off of the Yellow river but normally I hurt the Choctawhatchee river management system. What river was this hunt done off of?
clay i reckon your bows need to be quiter i beleive you would take more game my friend
Not sure I saw a safety harness on you in the stand. Please where one while tree stand hunting. Many hunters have been hurt and killed not wearing them. Enjoy your program to much to see you hurt. Thanks
John
I'll have one next time. left if with my sleeping bag
I have a really dumb question, but being from Oz I’m not wise in the ways of hunting over there…are hogs ever dangerous? Over here there’s some pigs you really don’t want to tangle with…especially sows with little ones. Great vid as always mate 🤙🏼
yes they are man.
They can be. I grew up around them though so I’m pretty comfortable with them.
I like your videos very informative. I have an osage orange tree 12-14 inches in diameter that has been laying over for at least 20 years with no bark on it. Will this be a good tree for bow staves?
Potentially. It would if thr heartwood is still good.
Please get a safety harness for the treestand. Most hunting injuries involve tree stands.
14:00 hahaha yeah corn is the inferior tortilla
I spent the last two days doing exactly what you’re doing but I’m outside of Jacksonville hunting in Camp Blanding. Are you hunting in the panhandle?
Yep
@@clayhayeshunter hey if you’re still following this thread and you have a minute I’d love your opinion on something. I missed a few chances on some good shots recently because I didn’t have time to draw as hogs scooted across a shooting lane. I can usually hear them coming so I have time to get set up… so, how long is too long to hold at full draw before you’re risking damage to your bow? I think it would help to be ready at full draw when they pop out but don’t want to ruin my bow.
Hey, I've got a hickory bow I'm finishing that I'd like to add some reflex, fire harden, and back with sinew...Is there an order that needs to happen in?..
I have a form to put the bow on for fire hardening...Can I add additional reflex after that, or should I have the shape I want over the coals?
And should I add the sinew as a final step after heat treating and shaping?
Shape, harden, sinew. In that order.
@@clayhayeshunter Thanks very much for the reply and for the great content. Your channel is top notch.
Would love to learn to shoot a long bow.
So might be a dumb question but in hot hunting climates, what do you use for bug dope that animals won't smell and get spooked?
If they get into position to smell the bug dope, they're gonna smell you regardless of what you have on or not. I just pay attention to the wind.
@@clayhayeshunter I figured that would be the answer but I never assume when asking might teach me something new.
Hey Clay, just ordered your book, dvds, and a roll of rawhide. Wanted to ask, do you still back your bows with rawhide? It didn't look like the new bow was backed.
The one in this video is rawhide backed.
That looks like mats cooking.
Matt can't cook that good!
Can you do a video on still hunting with a self bow? I’m having a heck of a time all I’ve gotten this year is a rabbit lol. Taste good but it don’t go far.
I will eventually. It’s a big topic
Where did you get that cool hunting cap with the fish logo? I gotta have one!
Liz just picked them up somewhere. It just says Outdoor Cap on the inside.
Hola tenés el vídeo del arco desmontable de cómo hicistes la empuñadura si es todo cuero pegado ????
Question- How many arrows do you carry (when you're hunting) on your bow and why? Thanks.
5. That's how many will fit in my quiver. 4 broadheads and one blunt.
Primeiro
Man, get yourself a saddle and do away with that climber! Love the content
I’ve got one!
Opa
Nothing! I can relate to that
That's hunting!
Yeah I was feeling sorry for myself after stalking hogs on public land all weekend, telling myself “Clay would have gotten a shot off on that one etc.” I feel better knowing they can slip by you too haha
3:20
Lovely bow is now a poo stick 😔
ah, it'll wear off!
I figured a gator might crawl in the boat with you to keep you warm.
Sure could have!
What River ?
Man I love using the boat to get to those hard to reach places
That’s what we do more than anything
If your ever in North Texas Hollar and we can check something out together
Check out my latest scouting video
We are gonna start doing more and more filming
I appreciate the inspiration Clay
heck yeah!
What are a kerns?
That’s those things that fall from oak trees. I’m the southern vernacular anyhow 😉
Haha just bustin your chops. Great video as always 👍🏽
No panthers, oh wait FWC says there are no pathers up here
well I didn't see any on this trip
@@clayhayeshunter I actually haven't seen one in years, but the ones I have were always close to the river
SKEETERS SUCK! I hunt a Swamp in Soprano Land. Early Season is terrible even with a Thermo Cell!
Yep!
This brings me back to when I was a kids. Looks like the Apalachicola area I love the hunting and fishing there.
I could eat a cow turd as long as it had cholulua sauce on it
Too much food for one face
oh but it all fit!
