Fun fact! Harps were not widely used in both medieval and ancient times, as they were often too cumbersome to move, too fragile and hard to make. Thus, you were more likely to find people playing a smaller version, which could be held and moved quite easily and which would open your Bard up to make all kinds of "You calling me a Lyre?" puns.
I noticed the colors you used for the patrons. If it wasn’t accidental, Thanks!! Edit: you probably get this a lot, but I really feel like Yisan, the Wanderer Bard would be an awesome commander deck for you! He can go from Budget to Competitive level.
Mounted combat focused characters don't really work so well, due to a few issues. First one being that either they a) have a standard mount, which dies in one hit once you get to mid levels, or b) have a souped up mount that levels with them, which is usually overpowered, especially at low levels (like hello cavalier from pathfinder that starts with a heavy warhorse at level 1, which is more powerful than an entire 1st level party, and it levels with them). and second problem being that this is DUNGEONS and dragons, and mounted stuff tends to be really difficult to get value out of when your in narrow hallways in dungeons where your horse can barely fit.
@@Klaital1 There's also the strange thing in 5e where, RAW, a medium creature has to crawl around on their mount to pick their square. Man, Magnus Chase was waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much wokebaiting. Trials of Apollo is gold, though. It's fun seeing a believably bisexual protagonist for once.
I couldn't really get invested in Trials, but Magnus Chase is probably my favorite of Riordan's series. It's sad that the spin-off series like Magnus Chase and especially Kane Chronicles don't get much love though
I do love the Hercules Disney movie so I found it funny you kept showing images of it that's all I wanted to to say also I'm excited for this Odyssey of Theros and I would play the new Paladin class just for fun
ngl leonin is probably my favourite race i just think its rlly fkn cool for an npc aspect for like a lawmaster or a war hero u go and ask to help out for a bossfight or even mabye a mobster
(something something 6 something something non-thumbnail art) I'm glad the Paladin got a new subclass. The Paladin is definitely my favorite class in theory, but the only actual subclasses it has that I'm fond of are the original 3 PHB ones. I might try out the Oath of Glory if given the chance. Of course that chance will probably be after a physical release happens cuz I have a baseless bias towards pages.
The Satyr being Fey with magic resistance is actually quite strong. Now hold/charm/dominate does not work as well as advantage on all spell saves. It makes them quite the threat against most caster style enemies, which I think comes up a bit more often over a campaign usually then a yuan-ti's poison immunity.
Honestly my biggest problem with the Satyr, is that they count as fey not humanoid. Because that makes them immune to effects like hold person, charm person, suggestion, and on and on and on.
I think the main reason everyone thinks the Satyr is broken is because it is considered Fey not humanoid. Which means you can't cast any spells that target a humanoid like Hold Person on them, you need to hit them with Hold Monster instead. And even if you hit them with that they still got the natural magic resistance for those spells.
As someone who voraciously read about the ancient world. (And yea I read the percy jackson series) This setting has set my imagination aflame and I cant wait to do a campaign in theros.

Personally having a limited character race list I feel is a great part of the book because it keeps the theme of theros solid. It’s pretty much just meant to be a Greek/Roman mythology inspired dnd setting so that’s why elves and all that other stuff isn’t in there. I personally loved reading the book and learning the lore. I’m actually about to DM a campaign soon.
Theros: ...basically the forgotten realms anyway so why not make it a campaign setting, even though we're trying to forget that sword coast adventures guide exists?
The trick is Oath of Glory's spell list and the fact none of the abilities get in the way of Paladin as a whole. Plus, Bear Totem Barbarian, Glory Paladin, Brawny feat, and Goliath can make you the greatest Grappler in the universe, giving you a massive lift and carry, capable of lifting frankly ridiculous things with ease and theoretically just yeet MFers into low orbit with the power of Lucha
It figures that something like this would come out right after I invested in the Odyssey of the Dragonlords kickstarter, the main selling point being the Greco-roman setting. But seeing the "new" material in Theros compared to the stuff in OoTD, I think WotC lost this fight.
Wow that's hilarious! I just made a Catfolk, Beast Barbarian, Drunk Monk named Tony. Whenever somebody asks how he got Swol, pulls out a box and says, "One box of Tigger Flakes every morning and you can get stronk too! Just mix it with your favorite Ale, and it'll *beee GRRREAT!"*
the pjo serie is still fun. i'm hyped for the tv serie. i do admit it lost a bit of it's charm. but the other series (the norse and egyptian ones) helped the author get back on track
I've only seen the movie, never read the Percy Jackson books. Most of my Greek and Roman Mythology understanding comes from history, mythology, and literature classes. Besides various articles, documentaries, books, websites, etc. that I have consumed over the decades.
My issue is, so spells like charm, hold and dominate(or really any spell only affecting humanoids) don’t affect satyrs right? Since they’re considered fey?
Them giving everyone darkvision is probably them misunderstanding that DARK doesn't mean "somewhat misty" but "FUCK, I LITERALLY CAN'T SEE, PLEASE NO STABBING".
I completely disagreed and still disagree with your thoughts on the Oath Of Heroism’s mighty deed being over powered. But I will absolutely agree with you about Satyrs. 120%
Dude go for broke. Bear totem goliath barbarian with enlarge cast on them. At level six they can lift upwards of 2 tons without needing to make a check.
The aura has synergy with find steed/greater find steed/haste/freedom of movement spells. Very mobile subclass features that build off base class features and spells. The small radius is very weird though. I think another bump to speed would have been a better fit. Or perhaps adding that creatures who start their turn and benefit from the speed boost also don’t provoke attacks of opportunity for the rest of that turn. The channel divinity is very versatile. Since it comes back on a short rest, it can potentially provide temp hitpoints to multiple creatures since temp hitpoints usually don’t reset until damaged or a long rest is taken. Could even just be used to keep your steed alive.
Honestly, it just needs a buff to the same range as the other Auras. 10 and 30 would make it fantastic, and as a dm I would house rule it the range anyway
Tristan Lawhorn Yea.. although it sits funny with me thinking about how insanely mobile this subclass can be, and that it’s basically so mobile that none of the other party members can even really benefit from the aura of your just gone out of everything else’s reach. Also the aura seems to be so small that while on your mound, you can’t even affect your other party members. This seems to be the case anyways when you think about a large mount taking up its space, and the player being on top of that space...

The trials dont hook me since I dont like the possible love interest but magnus is a good series and since annabeth is my favorite seeing her return to help her cousin is really interesting
Man, Magnus Chase was waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much wokebaiting. Trials of Apollo is gold, though. It's fun seeing a believably bisexual protagonist for once.
I really like the Kane Chronicles
I couldn't really get invested in Trials, but Magnus Chase is probably my favorite of Riordan's series. It's sad that the spin-off series like Magnus Chase and especially Kane Chronicles don't get much love though
That thumbnail making me feel all kinds of ways...
Eloquence bard: Bane + Unsettling Words is insane with debuffs and setting up an enemy to fail
I'm just here for Claudio playing a Gibson double-neck.
(something something 6 something something non-thumbnail art)
I'm glad the Paladin got a new subclass.
0:14 That's a fucking DIO pose, you can't fool me
I feel like I have to say that the ad that played before this video was for the new Bill & Ted movie and honestly it seems so appropriate
I love how Jacob had you yell at Jocat in his crap guide to DMing
The Satyr being Fey with magic resistance is actually quite strong. Now hold/charm/dominate does not work as well as advantage on all spell saves. It makes them quite the threat against most caster style enemies, which I think comes up a bit more often over a campaign usually then a yuan-ti's poison immunity.
I did not expect the Claudio Sanchez photo, but cheers for that.
Spreading the coheed love every way I can
Honestly my biggest problem with the Satyr, is that they count as fey not humanoid.
I've seen more satyr dongs the last two days than I ever wanted to see in my life.
Also, the Oath of Glory is the only Paladin sublcass that allows you to use it more than once per long rest by spending a 5th level spell slot on.
Man, the Mark of Athena burn really resonates with me.
"My name is Davvy Chappy and I like butt stuff"
absolute king
As someone who voraciously read about the ancient world.
(And yea I read the percy jackson series)
This setting has set my imagination aflame and I cant wait to do a campaign in theros.
I just bought MOT with the alt cover despite always using dnd beyond just to treat myself because it’s my favorite
"But I know what it is you're really here for" Mythological Butt Stuff? "The new races of Theros..." Mythological Butt Stuff.
Also this is the first vid I've seen of this channel and as a gay nerd hearing You know I'm into Butt Stuff and you know who else is? The greeks! just, 100% Good content subscribed.
You should totally go over the Supernatural Gifts/Heroic Feats part
For an ancient Greek setting I better get lots of sailing and pirates
I mean, we can just toss Ghosts of Saltmarsh in there for the extra seamen...
If you want pirates, they just released a free supplement on D&D Beyond for Bilgewater, the pirating region of Runeterra (AKA League of Legends).
There is a whole chapter on nautical adventures in the book
“I Wonder what class this is supposed to be!” Me, nodding my head “A druid as my new PC of course.”
They added a combination of Hoid, and Thom Merrilin in class form? Delicious!
Don't need to be a divination wizard to see a lot of Satyr eloquence bards in the future.
Already playing one xD
0:35, That hit me where I live. I couldn't finish House of Hades
I've only seen the movie, never read the Percy Jackson books.
Most of my Greek and Roman Mythology understanding comes from history, mythology, and literature classes.
Besides various articles, documentaries, books, websites, etc. that I have consumed over the decades.
Physical copies available in stores now. :-)
TRANS PRIDE FLAG SPOTTED, I FEEL HAPPY NOW
My issue is, so spells like charm, hold and dominate(or really any spell only affecting humanoids) don’t affect satyrs right? Since they’re considered fey?
Correct, but then satyrs are affected by things like Protection From Evil and Good.
Aberant Overlord used the devotion mechanic, it was a cover card to one of the Theros intro decks
2:49 Oh, hi Arachne 🕷
I always had trouble with mixing up greek and Norse mythology, so I guess I probably need a history book too
5:15 Boy, I can't wait to play a level 7+ Ancients Paladin Satyr.
Them giving everyone darkvision is probably them misunderstanding that DARK doesn't mean "somewhat misty" but "FUCK, I LITERALLY CAN'T SEE, PLEASE NO STABBING".
Aberrant overlord reminds me of a shadow ghast that looks fancy.
I completely disagreed and still disagree with your thoughts on the Oath Of Heroism’s mighty deed being over powered. But I will absolutely agree with you about Satyrs. 120%
My only change in the Leonin is they have a 1D6 claw attack and similar to how lions bite there prey the Leonin has advantage on grappling.
I like the idea that at level 8, A goliath oath of glory paladin with an enhance ability cast on them can lift an adult dragon. or a hydra.
Dude go for broke. Bear totem goliath barbarian with enlarge cast on them. At level six they can lift upwards of 2 tons without needing to make a check.
Reprinting some of the old material like races is a good thing though - not everyone has every splatbook, nor can they afford to.
What a funky name for a book
Carisma and dex you say, I envision a dex backflipping paladin with the ancients subclass
Tristan Lawhorn
Yea.. although it sits funny with me thinking about how insanely mobile this subclass can be, and that it’s basically so mobile that none of the other party members can even really benefit from the aura of your just gone out of everything else’s reach.
Also the aura seems to be so small that while on your mound, you can’t even affect your other party members. This seems to be the case anyways when you think about a large mount taking up its space, and the player being on top of that space...
