***** I was a bit disappointed that Paul McGann and John Hurt weren't mentioned. Even so, this is another reason why I love Capaldi's Doctor - he keeps his own backstory in mind even when he's there for the fans, his Doctor takes the best of the Classic and New eras and makes the character his own, and just the fact that he took some time out of his day to be the Doctor even just for a day of "The Doctor Who Experience" is absolutely fanTAStic! You can tell he definitely made those kids' day.
I think Matt Smith and David Tennant were wonderful interacting with their young fans, but I honestly haven't seen anything like this since the days of Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. This is quite remarkable.
I think that Peter actually imagines himself as one of those kids, since he used to be part of the audience that watched Doctor Who for the longest time.
Really brilliant, we've had the *cool* sort of celebrity Doctor since it came back, but not the full-on entertainer Doctor that's great with kids and always happy to jump into character. Capaldi would have been between the ages of 12-22 during the 70s when you got the likes of Pertwee and Tom Baker turning up on tv or visiting schools in character, he was clearly taking notes.
I don't believe he was improvising...in the Q&A, when the guy going around with the microphone picks someone to ask a question, if you look carefully he's telling them to read off of a piece of paper.
TheAwesomeRocco He's holding multiple pieces of paper. Which begs to me, were the questions written by the kids prior and then they sorted through them? If they were scripted prior, i'd have expected one piece of paper with all the questions or a flip book rather than slips that fall/drop out of your hand. What's better though, is that Capaldi stays in character for the kids...mostly. He does touch on the actors who have protrayed him like Tennant, Hartnell, Baker, etc.
I love this because he's answering and playing as The Doctor, and a lot of other actors wouldn't do that. He actually took the kids on an adventure, and he answered their questions as The Doctor. That's what makes it real for these kids. Also, I NEED the episode where he goes back to see Susan. I NEED it.
electricmastro ro not really, because the doctor didn't meet Susan after The Daleks Invasion of Earth in the episode, that was before the Doctor left her
Peter is as equally good with kids as Matt was but for different reasons. Matt was like the quirky, random uncle while Peter is like the stoic, mysterious grandfather.
I LOVE Peter, he is so caring and passionate of the fans and his role. I also love how he becomes The Doctor outside the episodes as well, its just so brilliant and kinda epic.
In a way, I feel Capaldi's Doctor is the opposite of Matt's Doctor. Where Matt's Doctor was an old professor stuck in the body of a young man, Capaldi's Doctor is a teenager with a rebellious streak who has the appearance of an elderly man.
You really think 57 yrs old is elderly? Nowadays its called middle age.:). Paul Mcgann is only a year younger than PC , dont see him as "elderly" either.
VL G Hm, makes sense. But the Twelfth Doctor as a character certainly seems to like doing the "forgetful old man" routine when it is convenient for him.
It's very rare to see a massive fan of Doctor Who actually play the Doctor and then to act to young fans like he's a fan of the Doctor, but AS the Doctor.
leandrodude The way he tears up slightly instead of just being a robot etc. There should be an episode where Peter visits Carole in her home in the 22nd century, but then Daleks attack or something!
" He saves planets, rescues civilizations, defeats terrible creatures. And runs a lot. Seriously, there's an outrageous amount of running involved." Donna Noble in: 'The Doctor's Daughter' May 2008 =))
lykan2 or his granddaughter, susan could gave escaped the time war. Heck he probably hid her somehow cough...fob watch...cough, to keep her safe. Would love to see her in the show, it would be an epic moment.
***** Have you even seen the episode when he left Susan behind? It would be pretty awesome to see her again with the same actress who played her then, but he left her on another planet, far from the Time War.
JMont905 Well in the audios, The Doctor visits her and her son Alex. The original actor returns, too. The audios are now part of the TV universe, since The Night Of The Doctor, as various audio characters are mentioned.
1:01 I love how that’s genuinely how it feels at times, I see Peter Capaldi and I can literally see Matt Smith and David Tennant and William Hartnell, it’s very fun
Seeing how Peter Capaldi interacts with fans just makes me appreciate his Doctor more. He doesn't talk down to the children, he has fun interacting with them, and he comes across as a deeper character off screen than on. Peter Capaldi, please stay for a long time.
I love Peter Capaldi. Most actors, particularly of Peter's calibre, would think that appearing at the Doctor Who Experience and showing the kids around, being almost totally in-character the whole time to be beneath them. Not Peter.
He's disgustingly adorable, and his improv as the Doctor actually there talking to children is perfect too-much sweeter but still definitely the Doctor. Perfect answer about fave companion too!
opalexian b'nafia I wonder if the way he acts here hints at a more grandfatherly Twelfth Doctor in the new series. I like him being more abrasive but, as we can see here, Peter has such a twinkle that I'd like to see that shine through a bit more often.
I just love how he answers the children's questions as the Doctor, especially the one about who's his favorite companion. The emotion he displays when he mentions Susan. It made me want to cry.
You can really tell how good a Doctor is by how they interact with children. That's always been a tradition, ever since the first. The person who plays the Doctor has always been excellent around children.
He's like a big kid in a play, and he's having the time of his life. Peter Capaldi's probably dreamed about doing exactly this since he was little, and it's actually kind of sweet. The biggest Doctor Who fan ever...playing The Doctor. What a life.
And this is why I love Peter as the Doctor, when he takes on the role of the Doctor he REALLY takes on the role as the Doctor and why having a fan of the show as the Doctor works, he has seen the episodes, he knows the show inside and out, he is a massive fanboy and one who takes the show seriously and will do whatever he can for it. I love Matt and David, David was the same as Peter but Peter just seems more the fanboy then David (just by a little) which shows when he does things like this, it is awesome to see how play the room perfectly especially when he mentions 'his' granddaughter, I am SO happy with that answer. The Doctor has remembered he has had family, I mean, the Doctor has always known, Matt was quite when family was brought up during his era etc but this, this just gives us a nod toward the fact that the classic years ARE remembered verbally even if not as part of a script, though it would be nice to get Carole Ann back on the show, she is still alive, we SO need to have her and her grandfather meet up again! It would be a fantastic reunion!
SupaDupaFreak100 True, technically they were, but at the same time Susan is the one 'companion' that he promised to see again and I think he did back in 1993 but it would be nice to actually see her again since he is her 'original' granddaughter

"I promised I would go and see her... but I never did..." AHEM! Hint, hint, Moffat! Also, absolutely LOVING Peter Capaldi! He just seems to slip into the role so easily!
It's so cool how peter stays in character for these little kids. It's just beautiful. Ever Since this man's joined the show, he's like a kid in a candy store. Well done, Mr. Capaldi and keep up the wonderful work you're doing.
This whole thing is so sweet, tho. It’s basically a whole interview on the subject of personal favorites and some valuable bits on his character interpretations, but he’s doing all of it in-character as a bit of fanservice for the kids, and that just gives it this double layer of cuteness like, Peter being such an adorable human being and going out of his way to make some little kids’ days, but with the side effect/ huge gift to the world that is this adorable visual That impromptu bit of performance there, tho, when Susan is mentioned, voice breaking and all. (Same for the grin and tone of voice when he’s talking about Clara. ) And al this for a random promo thing. That’s how you spot someone who’s really passionate about his art.
When peter said "look out mummy!" Reminded me of the scene in a adventure in time space where william hartnell was playing with kids and pretended there was a dalek in the park
+Random Ashe Agreed. He hit #1 on my list (surpassing Pertwee) with his "fear is a superpower" speech in Listen and cemented his position with stuff like this, the recent hospital video where he basically did something similar, and the second half of Series 9. People who complain about him and his pairing with Clara don't realize we just ended a golden era on par with Tom Baker and Sarah Jane. (Hopefully with another golden era about to begin, of course!)
Nicole Song I like them too, but I still think their story arc was awfully executed and damaging to both characters. And it's hurting me to see someone talk about such mediocre writing with praise. I meant no disrespect to Coleman or Capaldi.
3:00 "But I never did." Oh, but you did, Doctor. Don't you remember? In your eighth form, you visited Susan and her son Alex Campbell, fought off the Guldreasi, and then once more as you stopped another Dalek invasion of Earth.
Foo Xuan liang That is very much canon. Watch the Night of the Doctor. The Doctor mentions his Big Finish companions "Charley, Crizz, Lucie, Tamsine, Molly..." Which makes all of Big Finish canon, thus, 'An Earthly Child' is canon.
What Capaldi said, as the Doctor, about how special this planet is was just beautiful - well performed, spoken with such sincerity and love - I was getting a bit teary. :)
Casting Peter Capaldi was such a great decision. You can clearly tell now there's a guy who understands the character well and loves him as much as we do.
This is the most AMAZING piece of improvisation I have ever seen. Peter never breaks character - he is always the Doctor, no matter what the question is, and you can see that the kids are totally convinced that he's real. And this is no quick, "star popping in for a fast photo op" thing - it's obvious that this was a long interaction with the kids, so Peter sustained this performance for quite some time. An magnificent actor and a wonderful, kind man...
I really hope, that Peter Capaldi is going to be the Tom Baker of New Who. The one Doctor who stayed for the long run. Just seeing this, knowing the potential of stories to come, makes me hope that so much. Nobody can replace Tom Baker of course, as he is a favorite of many. But I do dearly hope, that Peter here might become like him for the new generation of Whovians. Because in my eyes, he is the best Doctor out of the five (War Doctor included) we had in the past ten years.
+Rarity Belle He's already giving out hints about leaving. The Patrick Troughton rule of staying just long enough to make the fans cry their eyes out will stand, it seems.
MyVideoWatchingChannel It's both funny and a little bit sad. Susan really should come back. Heck why not have a story that features Carole Ann Ford reprising her role as an elderly Susan, and then have her regenerate?
nepomusik That would be great, the Doctor finally working up the courage to see her after all this time, she has lived an entire lifetime after being left behind...
dangerouslytalented I'm sure she's been following his exploits on Earth. It would be great to see if she has been an overriding force in some way. Perhaps influencing certain things from the shadows, secretly helping to protect her grandfather when she feels he is most in need. Question is maybe he has already met her, she is a Timelord right? She can regenerate?
the thing i love about peter playing the doctor is that he is a whovian and you can see the excitement and the twinkle in his eyes when in character or even just talking about who
I see and love Peter as the Doctor, and he is so awesome and very loving with children. Plus, he really shows so much love as the Doctor. I will miss him, but I know Peter will have these precious memories in living his dream, and he will go on to great endeavors.
Peter Capaldi just keeps knocking it out of the park. I love all the Doctor's of late that have really immersed themselves in with the young fans, but especially Capaldi. It's also nice to see Moffat in awe as a fan and kid like.
I love how Peter didn't talk down to the children. He spoke to them and answered their questions like they were adults. It's just so sincere, I love it!
I absolutely love Peter Capaldi. He truly understands who The Doctor is. He's not my first Doctor, but he is one of my favorites. (That is if it's really possible to have a favorite. They're all the same wonderful man, after all.)
I'm convinced by this point that Capaldi can play this role in his sleep.
Robert Lythgoe well, the doctor saved the world twice..Blinded too
To think I've only just discovered this wonderful Dr. Who moment. 😢
This sort of thing is why he's my favorite Doctor.
Yo, for real!!!
The only thing that can hurt Capaldi’s Doctor is the writing.
Best doctor 🙂
I love the kid sitting next to Peter who's really focusing on Peter's face in an attempt to find Matt or David or Chris in there.
Was thinking the same! lol

It's great to see Capaldi improvising in character as The Doctor! What a thrill for his audience to experience that!
I don't believe he was improvising...in the Q&A, when the guy going around with the microphone picks someone to ask a question, if you look carefully he's telling them to read off of a piece of paper.
It's amazing that he was able to do it without the aid of a script... Or did he???
TheAwesomeRocco He's holding multiple pieces of paper. Which begs to me, were the questions written by the kids prior and then they sorted through them? If they were scripted prior, i'd have expected one piece of paper with all the questions or a flip book rather than slips that fall/drop out of your hand.

SP Murphy Schools always do that, they tell the students what to ask so there'll always be a question even if the kids don't have one.
And sometime you can see that he's thinking, but he's an actor so I don't think that we'll ever know the truth
I love this because he's answering and playing as The Doctor, and a lot of other actors wouldn't do that. He actually took the kids on an adventure, and he answered their questions as The Doctor. That's what makes it real for these kids. Also, I NEED the episode where he goes back to see Susan. I NEED it.
Peter is great. It's wonderful having a fellow Whovian play the Doctor.
Speaking of companions, I'd like to see the Doctor visit Susan as he promised.
He already has though
He has, but it never showed it.
Well, weve heard it in the audios
Do we count The Five Doctors?
electricmastro ro not really, because the doctor didn't meet Susan after The Daleks Invasion of Earth in the episode, that was before the Doctor left her

I don't even think that David and Matt were fans this big.

What a truly great man. Talking to the children but not talking down to them. Treating them with dignity and respect.

Peter Capaldi is officially my favorite Doctor. He's loving every minute of being Doctor Who, and he's fantastic.
He's great with the fans! Super friendly and nice!
I love the way he stayed in character for it all

An magnificent actor and a wonderful, kind man...
well peter has essentially been preparing to be the doctor for the last 53 or so years, no wonder he can stay in character and improv
Yes, exactly.
This video makes me realize that having a massive fan of Doctor Who playing the Doctor isn't *necessary*, but it sure makes a difference!
Reminds me of that scene in "An Adventure in Space and Time" with Hartnell playing Daleks with his young fans. Capaldi is so cool.

These kids will never forget they talked to The Doctor, and the beauty he spread.ty peter.
#Capaldi is such a good sport!

12 is the most Dadly out of all I've seen.
Such a wonderful man to give of his time to children!
He named the Scottish ones first XD
I noticed that and loved it. 😅
But forgot Paul McGann when he mentioned the other Doctors
I see and love Peter as the Doctor, and he is so awesome and very loving with children. Plus, he really shows so much love as the Doctor. I will miss him, but I know Peter will have these precious memories in living his dream, and he will go on to great endeavors.
The last Doctor, and one of the best there ever was. Maybe the best.
I love the Doctor so very much, and all the Doctor actors, and the more videos I see of them the less certain I am that there's really a difference.
This is why I love Capaldi, he loves the show as much as we do, and this - totally unscripted perfection.
Peter Capaldi just keeps knocking it out of the park. I love all the Doctor's of late that have really immersed themselves in with the young fans, but especially Capaldi. It's also nice to see Moffat in awe as a fan and kid like.
that is very nice of him to surprise that Kids. I think and it seems to me that he like his role as the 12th doc very much
how flippin' brilliant was Peter Capaldi there?! what a legend.
I love how Peter didn't talk down to the children. He spoke to them and answered their questions like they were adults. It's just so sincere, I love it!
He's such a fan growing up, and being in character for children. He is too awesome to let go as the Doctor. He will be missed and loved.
It makes me happy to see how much Peter loves being the Doctor and interacting with fans, especially children.
How wonderful for those kids to see the Doctor! Peter Capaldi was really sweet to do that for them. It'll be a memory forever.
Capaldi's really good to interact with children. I'm sure of: he is my favorite doctor!
That bit where he talked about Susan felt so real and powerful i actually made me tear a little. I'm convinced this man actually is the Doctor
I absolutely love Peter Capaldi. He truly understands who The Doctor is. He's not my first Doctor, but he is one of my favorites. (That is if it's really possible to have a favorite. They're all the same wonderful man, after all.)
This reminds me of an adventure in space and time were william Is playing whith the children
Ah yes. I loved that scene. "Uncle who" XD
"We must all get back to the TARDIS!!"
DarthRushy Yeah that scene was adorable.

Female David Tennant Come along now! We must go to the TARDIS!.............What's this?! Run! EXTEAHMINAYTE! EXTEAHMINAYTE! EXTEAHMINAYTE!
They do grow into each other; when you look at the regeneration effects; You can see such a seamless blend.
the fact that my favourite tv show is written for children makes me die a little inside
Not written just for children though

"A man called Patrick Troughton," what a handsome man.
0:10 the fact that Peter is playing along with the kids and acting AS the doctor, is just adorable.
I just love Peter Capaldi so much.
1:25 that kid right next to Capaldi is trying to find the faces...
Capaldi is an utter gentleman. I'm sure those children would have gone home very, very happy indeed!
Oh my goodness! I love the improvisational work Peter does talking to the kids. He is a true fan, how he talks about Susan was beautiful. The Doctor!
He's such a dork and fanboy, I love him. Melts my heart.
"I love Clara" *screeches and falls off bed*
Aww the comment about Susan though!!! This was the best.
How awesome is he, not only to do this, but do it entirely in character!
Capaldi and Eccleston are by far my favorites.
Capaldi is just magic, he made me laugh, he made me cry! Love him, he is such a good doctor!
The way peter interacts with the fans Is great!~ hes such an amazing person; both on screen as an actor, and in person.
Such a wonderful man! ♥
Peter is such a great speaker and story-teller. Really captures you with his words!
Peter Capaldi is literally just an over-grown child when it comes to Doctor Who and no one can convince me otherwise.
Oh my! I think I'm in love. What a terrifically awesome chap! Soooo sweet recalling his past incarnations.
