I watched my first Stanley Cup Final in '93 and was hooked immediately on the greatest game on earth. In Detroit I watched Don and Ron on channel 9 on Saturday Nights with a couple of friends who could not believe Cherry's suits but got hooked on "Canadian" hockey like me. Thanks Canada for Hockey and Don Cherry! Thanks Mr. Cherry for years of Coaches Corner!

Humility isn’t a word that people associate with Don Cherry. However the person we see on camera is far from that person. I’ve known folks who have met him away from the cameras and he is described as a caring individual. For me the absolute greatest facet of professional sports are the overachievers (e.g. Gretzky, Orr, Sittler and others) who remain humble while being great. There are far too many now who earn huge money and shout long and loud about how terrific they are and omit details about the fact that team games are just that. No one individual can win a team game on their own. I truly hope that there will always be those who never forget that TEAM philosophy is what makes the game(s) GREAT…

What a place example: all of the interlocking stones were white a had blue Maple leafs all over. The whole place was like that and it would take you a day to see it all. Saw the Connacher Brothers cottages as well - Ballard had them built I heard. 3 Exact copies of each other...and beautiful. All this on Lake Huron.

For the almost 40 years he’s been on television he has had no respect or regard for proper pronunciation of names, even butchering them right after Ron said it, or when corrected he says “close enough”...Vinny Cavayay is an example of a “gem”...and putting down entire cultures & countries, like “chicken Swedes”, and derogatory statements about french players, any other Europeans & Russians particularly...people saying he’s a “true Canadian”, as if we all don’t care to take the time to learn a name properly or put down entire cultures and races. Some names are tough to pronounce for the casual fan but this was his OCCUPATION, immersed in hockey constantly...even “BieSKa”’ and “Taychuk”, two of his favorite players...complete lack of effort and respect, not to mention class. Sure he supports Canadians and the military and has done all kinds of good things, but his bigoted viewpoints, his pompous attitude and his opinions on anyone that doesn’t agree with him are not representative of Canadian people. I won’t miss you, Don Berry...huh? Wuzzat? Oh, Don Cherry? Close enough...
