He served in the Marine Corps for nine years and after mastering Wing Chun, he wanted to teach it in his unit (which he did). Chris Collins is also a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as well. I think he now resides in Hong Kong teaching martial arts. 👌

Ip Man seems slower because of his arm injury alone. Age and cancer are all reality context imparted into the movie by theory because they only made Ip Man seem to cough more. Remember, this is an exaggerated, fictionalized Ip Man, not real life. In real life, some people in fact are alert and energetic before their cancer reaches metastasis as if they never had it. Only what is explicit such as his arm injury was the factor to him seemingly slowing down. The actor Donnie Yen is still fast at 55 years old so he is playing Ip Man at full speed with full skill except when he's forced to slow down because of incurring the arm injury to his character as well as coughing more. Additionally, Scott Adkins is one of Ip Man's most skilled and well rounded opponents so Ip Man is definitely unable to exercise full speed against him unless the opportunity is there.

In real life, Yip Man never had a duel with a Japanese general to end a war, never fought a boxer named Twister who killed his friend, probably didn’t have a private match with another Wing Tsun master to gain the title of Grandmaster, and never even went to America. You’re basing your image of a real person off movies. At least with Lee, we actually know he could fight well.
