appreciate your honest approach and clarity, I'm so sick of so called influencers which many of the synth reviewers are wether they want to admit it or not, I think your more of a classic open reviewer/opinionator :) I came across a review of the abacus, the comments had so much hate for "B" it shows that ignorance is bliss, Maths circuits are old designs Makenoise didn't patent the tech cuz they don't own it! anyway I'm getting a coffee now. keep up the good work!

TH-cam personalities who obsess or constantly cry about Behringer should post how much they paid….or NOT for those expensive pieces of gear. And if they also work for competitors of Behringer while not disclosing it- they are the fraud. Behinginer is what it is. I am grateful for them helping make gear affordable. The same old big mouths are boring already. We know who they are.

Couldn't agree more on your take on Moog vs Behringer. Not to mention, that no-one of these "influencers" ever talks about the oligopoly scandal from Korg and Roland, where they agreed to keep their prices unreasonably high.

Keep in mind that some well known influencers are asking thousands (!!) of euros to do a review. This is not some small amount of money which doesn't affect their opinion as they claim. You can't trust any of them. That doesn't mean they are lying in their review, but remember that saying 'the right thing' will ensure the money train doesn't stop.
Also, not disclosing your affiliates or affiliate links should lead to a temporary TH-cam ban. The moment they implement that will be a real quiet synthfluencer month.

Thanks for this. It's good to hear some discussion about the recent drama with someone with different perspective. I have a LOT of criticisms of Behringer, mostly with their marketing and what a bully Uli is, with his attempted lawsuits, mocking of journalists, etc. But I do think that a lot of my favorite synth youtubers (I've been a fan of Benn Jordan since 2004) have gotten carried away here and have gone too far with the Behringer commentary while ignoring all the other gear from other manufacturers that is made unethically by exploited workers. I think most of the criticisms of Behringer are valid, but most of them are a criticism of capitalism in general. We need to fix things and demand a world with more equality than this, but unless there's an actual organized boycott, individuals choosing not to buy Behringer products isn't really helping anything, and despite the influencers' claims otherwise, is kind of creating a divide between poor musicians and those with better financial situations.

All these so called "influencers" don't even realise that the people that actually buy music don't care who made the instrument used in the making of the music let alone worry if the synth doesn't quite sound like the original analogue version they heard on a 1970's record minced through an old analogue desk and then compressed down to spotify listened to on cheap earbuds.

Thank you for a good commentary!
Influencers? I watch some of their videos with interest mixed with some skepticism. I appreciate your style, in particular, Christophe.
Behringer? I've got the UB-Xa on pre-order and will wait however long I must to get it into my studio. Why? I will NEVER buy an original OB-Xa. It's too expensive to buy, and I cannot afford to maintain old gear like that. But I want to get as close to the experience of using that classic Oberheim synth as I can afford. So that means the Behringer UB-Xa is the best option for me.
And Moog? I've got a Subsequent-37 and am happy with it. But for that classic Model D experience, I've also got a Behringer Poly D (which I use as a Minimoog monosynth with an extra oscillator). That synth gets me close enough to the classic for my purposes, and it is what I could afford.
So I thank you, Uli, for putting some good-sounding musical tools within my reach. And thank you, Moog, for your pioneering work in creating some great synthesizers early on! And thank you, @WineSynths for your informative videos, insights, and wisdom.

Super video (as always). I've been using Behringer gear for decades (as a hobby musician): Mixers, Compressors, Preamps, Microphones, and more recently Synths (Deepmind 12 and Odyssey). And as long as Behringer has existed, its products have been highly criticized due to their disruptive pricing policy (because what can't be, can't be?). Only with the inflationary appearance of the Influencer and the Synthyoutuber (of which I find very very many basically totally great) came this extreme sharpness in the Behringer bashing. I am a hobby musician. But I am also a economist. And hey: a professional TH-camr has a business. Synth manufacturers have a business. In the end, the bottom line has to be in the black, otherwise nothing will work out (how far you have to push profit maximization is another matter). What you might find is that Behringer has a somewhat unfortunate communication towards synthyoutubers. Is that why they are the bad guys? Rather not, I think. Communication channels are disturbed here, and this is being acted out publicly in social media. What does that mean for us musicians: just like you said: pay attention to transparency and listen to your gut feeling.

You're a musician and I appreciate you sharing your music-making knowledge with all this fantastic gear with us. Vielen Dank!

I've noticed the deluge of synchronised video releases when certain instruments are about to come on the market, and it actually makes me highly suspicious of the instruments in question. I understand that this is a relatively niche market for most manufacturers, and they want to maximise the impact of an instrument's release, but I automatically ignore those "day one" videos on the basis that the content creator has usually agreed to editorial control from the manufacturer.
As for Behringer, I own four of their instruments - RD-9, MS-1, Solina and Pro-1. They are affordable and reliable recreations that add features (particularly MIDI) that the originals did not have, and in the case of the first two where the original manufacturer has recreated them as well, the Behringers have better a form factor. I do also own a lot of vintage stuff, but that's not because I'm some kind of gear snob - it's almost entirely cheap things like the Ensoniq ESQ1 or Yamaha TX802, which I use a lot and haven't found modern equivalents of that are as easy to use.

    • @xisotopex
      @xisotopex 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

where have you seen synchronized video releases? you do realize that manu's will send certain youtubers/reviewers the instrument in advance of, or coinciding with the release? there is nothing 'suspicious' about it and no one is hiding it.

    • @hoagy_ytfc
      @hoagy_ytfc 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

" the deluge of synchronised video releases when certain instruments are about to come on the market" - Isn't that just because everyone is under an NDA embargo until a certain point in time? e.g. the Arturia Audiofuse 16rig released today. All the channels have them for review, and each one I saw declared as such, then release them when permitted. That's normal practice and there's nothing suspicious about it. It'd only be problematic if the channel agreed to do a positive review regardless of the state of the product, but we know that's not happening in the better channels, like Loopop etc.

    • @chriswareham
      @chriswareham 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@xisotopex It's part of the agreement of the manufacturer with a content creator that the latter will release their video at a set date and time. That's written into the kind of contract that's alluded to in Wine&Synth's video. What I find suspicious is the contractual basis to these promotional videos (they rarely qualify as objective reviews), and as has been shown recently in the guitar world, the manufacturer's often stipulate that a review must be positive - even threatening legal action if a review they deem critical is released.

    • @chriswareham

One thing to note for awhile now Moog synths were assembled and tested in the US. How much is the question. I know some companies will have a board with all the chips manufactured overseas and then put those boards into a chassis also potentially manufactured overseas. Assembling the item is enough to slap the label "made in the USA" (and that is a % base). Its all about where we draw the line, "made in the USA", from a consumer perspective or if it even matters. If that means soldering every component on the boards then I doubt much of that is happening anymore due to the cost. If the QA is good and defects minimalized I doubt most would really care enough to stop using a synth. Companies do all sorts of marketing tactics like not for profit vs non-profit vs charitable organizations (how much money they can take), bottles/containers labeled recyclable but really are not, regulations of green or organic products, or being carbon neutral only because of some vague rule that the more land you own lowers your carbon footprint (why Mr. Gates feels okay flying his jet everywhere). Consumers don't make the rules we understand the general definitions of words and regulatory bodies make the criteria to meet those which do not comport to our definitions. Speak with your money definitely but think twice when you see something labeled or is said to be a certain way. Most of the time if they "want you to see it" its probably not entirely genuine.

I read that interview with Robert too. That snob part was übersnobby, haha 😀 There might be people who worked very hard for that big chunk of money they dropped on Roland original machines, _just_ because all the other "alternatives" did not do it for them. Speaking for a friend, of course. \m_ In my personal opinion, the X0X-machines are still alright regarding their prices. A TB-303 is still the king of acid machines. If you want THAT sound and groove, you have to get one of these or maybe an RE-303. I own clones too and they mix well with an original machine, but they cannot replace it. Same for the 909 and 808 imho.

They dont realy get the heat for the clones - the counterfeits are the problem (what i call the products that are still sold by the original company)
With these they really harm especially small companies (XAOC for example)
Moog was greenwashing yes - but even so the employees got a bad payment it was a possibility for them to work in a factory like that - with Behringer products even the r&d is done in asia which doesnt let any room to make synth in Europe or US - and of course with their counterfeits of current moog products they also harmed moog no doubt
Thats a really bad situation if you live synths and want to be included in the manufactur process because there are less and less options left the more people just buy cheap (in price) counterfeits
If Behringer at least would make clones/counterfeits like the Deepmind which actually brings much more to the table than its successor
I think Jorb did a really good video on the topic on what Behringer could be as a company - if they go this route they hate will dissapear - also if they fire their PR Team - it feels like 12 year olds running their social media

Behringer has opened the door to those on a budget, or just starting out and can't afford to make an expensive mistake, or wanting to move from softsynths without the pain, or to try out the old classics, again without the pain, or dabble with analogue, etc...
Personally I ticked all of the above boxes, so Behringer has been a godsend in that regard. So far I have a DM6, DM12, and three Neutrons - racked. All very capable of a wide variety of sounds and textures - a dabblers delight for less than £2000 (including the rack!).
All the debates about Behringer I have gladly ignored, same goes for the boutique movement and influencers. The bottom line is the music and the immense pleasure it brings, and if a company can make it more achievable through a lower price and by giving people more opportunities to get hands on with the classics, then that's all that matters.

Well, honestly, the Roland TB-303 is a machine that has died about 30 times and gone through 30 different owners before finally costing $3,000.
None TB-303 unit sounds the same, but now after 40 years and going through several operating rooms to revive it, electronic components are put in that are not original from Japan from 1981. That really makes them all sound much more different from each other and the Devil version. Fish is another modified machine that doesn't have the correct original sound.
Now I will say what my TD-3 has better things than the TB-303.
1- The knobs are firm, they are not weak at all, and they have the same quality as the TB-303, really the TD-3 is built in the same category of materials, both in the internal electronics and in the body materials.
2- It has a randomization system that never repeats the same notes.
3- the analog sound is identical when you calibrate it at 500hz with the filter at 12:00 and pressing the C1 note.
4-The charger is much more robust than the original, it has a really resistant cable, the Roland one is similar to the Korg Minilogue ones, (much cheaper and weaker).
5- It has many more internal configuration functions.
6- It has USB Midi in/out, Midi in/out/Thru connection.
7- the on and off button is of better quality.
8- backlighting of the machine looks better, with a more intense light than in the original TB-303.
9- I can use the TD-3 as a midi keyboard, in writing mode, with pitch mode, when I have it configured by the midi cable in LogicPro.
10- the sequencer is monophonic, but at the same time it is chromatic and thanks to Midi and USB, I can use this sequencer to sequence Logic's UltraBeat drum machine and experiment easily with the sequencer, it is a great tool to generate strange rhythms using the random function, I can't do that with my TB-303.
11- It has 3 control distortion, it's not the best but it does exactly what a 1990 Boss pedal can do.
    My conclusion is:
TD-3 I know it will last me many years, another 40 years like Roland Tb-303, because my original is a piece of plastic shit and has lasted many years since they manufactured it in 1981, I wonder why this one can't be great Behringer TD-3 having some improvements?
I know that it gives me what I expect from an original, I bought TD-3 to have a second unit to make 2 bass lines, but I also use the TD-3 for beats with 3 Logic drum machines, to achieve happy coincidences, while I play TB-303 for bass with the midi keyboard or I want some acid house.
This machine is good, it is neither better nor worse than a TB-303, it is at the same level and is not 40 years old, but it does the same thing and gives better options only for 130 dollars.
I have the silver one, to match the colors with my Roland TB-303.
Now I'm missing the RD-6 and I know that this one can also be as good as its little brother.
If Behringer works this well with the rest of the things, it already shows me that it can do things well.
I understand that many people are bothered by a manufacturer who rescues old things to make business, it hurts when you have something for 3000 and someone takes it out for 300 or 130.
But Korg doesn't do it? Yes Arp 2600 mini is an example, but I will clone the DX7 in a Volca size, I know it is not Yamaha DX7 but it supports its sounds because it has the same architecture even though it only has 4 and 6 notes in the mk1 and m2.
And later, many others have cloned the CS-80, the MC-202, many classics inspired by the minimoog such as the 2600, but also the Odyssey.
Nobody saw it as bad, CAT really is a clone of Oddysey, nobody saw it bad and the English cloned it.
If Behringer is so bad for the moral attitude, I think the problem is more personal than commercial, in the end a musician will also buy a t-bone cloned piano or an imitation telecaster guitar, classic rolan pedals in other brands...
All Curtis filters have been cloned into modular ones from big brands.
I don't see why we should hate Behringer for doing reverse engineering for people with lower economies, that's unfair and democratization has given us access to things that only rich industry professionals possessed.
Dom, the English acid house producer, made his position clear at Andertons. He sold his TB-303 for $3,600 and bought some Behringer stuff. The first thing he did was buy 3 TD-3s since he only had one TB-3. 303 to make a line, and for the first time it has 2x TD-3 and a TD-3 MO.
He has no regrets, he knows how limited it is to buy Behringer and he values those functional values for music, having USB is comfortable for him and I think it is for many of us who have TD-3 as well.
Greetings and don't be on the networks so much, make more music and don't connect, enjoy the moment with Behringer things and the rest of the musical things from other brands.
    greetings.

Simply, there were no DAWs back then, and it was made on gear (mostly Roland) which failed on the market, and could be bought for very little money, and is now worth crazy prices. The original TB-303 was a failure, and so were the TR drum machines, until techno, house and hip hop put them back on the map. Of course, you can make music with whatever you want and have. There is no lack of good free software, including DAWs, synths and effects.

I'm new to your channel and to synthesizers in general. For what it's worth I don't think you're biased towards Behringer. If anything, you're biased towards the Moog Matriarch. 😛You seem to know what you're talking about - your advice is extremely friendly, positive, and funny. If you were biased towards Behringer, my first synthesizer purchase probably would've been a Behringer. I bought a Hydrasynth Explorer and love it. I'll probably buy a Behringer something or rather at some point. Maybe a TD-3-MO... Probably going to buy a Moog DFAM as well but I digress... You can be a Behringer fanboy. I think anyone that would use that as an insult would be missing out.
Anyways, I doubt that the loudest voices really have any "skin in the game" so to say... The ones propagating the controversy probably aren't even affected by whatever they're mad about. So, just enjoy what you enjoy, ignore any negativity, and make cool music. 😀
Also, I think people use the term "influencer" negatively, which is somewhat understandable. Everyone is an influencer to some degree. Your influence on me seems genuine so I value your opinion. I think there are different degrees of influencers - there's ones that are completely "bought" (which isn't a bad thing in my opinion, congrats to them). For whatever reason, people in online communities seem to totally freak out if someone is paid to give a positive review of something. Like, people make TH-cam videos like this to hopefully earn something, even if that isn't the main focus, while sharing their opinion/something cool - they get fans because their content is good - then fans completely flip their lids when the person(s) they like has the opportunity to make some money doing what they're doing...
With all that said, please don't take any deals, don't change your channel at all, it's literally perfect, don't get eaten by the corporate influential promotion monster machine... 😈

Erst: zum Wohl! Prost! 🍷Bissig, ehrlich und humorvoll. Klasse.
Is behringer perfect? Nope! But neither are the other companies, and when someone wearing Nikes and recording on a Mac starts bashing on B. about exploitation, etc. they'd better look into the past of the brands they are using. Bash them all at that point, you'd be more honest and objective.
The only Behringer gear I have is Xenyx mixer/audio interface and a bass pedal, none of which gave me any issue in several years of constant use. I don't own any synths from them, for no particular reason, except maybe trying no to give in to GAS ;)
Is so-called cloning debatable? Sure, but it's been around in tech and other industries for ever, and intellectual property is debatable as well. Not to mention that the patents to the machines they copy have long expired or didn't even exist. If I make a cartoon with Popeye, now in the public domain, no one would be calling me a cloner. Clones of the TB-303 and the Model D had been around much earlier than B. began their synth cloning phase.
No one cares about the tools you use to have fun and make music. If making music and having fun is your goal, that is - if it is to showcase luxury goods, then maybe you're in another category altogether...

As a horrible, predatory American libertarian capitalist…I basically agree. I’ve always been a little suspicious of Moog’s labor-washing (some dare call it virtue-signaling), and realizing that their pictures of “manufacturing” were really just assembly of SMD boards made in the same factories as everyone else. I admit I was surprised that they wanted to unionize, but-knowing the town of Asheville-even that much assembly here in the US would result in their boutique prices but not leave them all rich.
One area where I disagree is in Behringer manufacturing clones of current Moog instruments. Bringing back classics to a new generation of creators is great, but it is distasteful (even to me, a rapacious capitalist) to sell copies of current products. Those cheap 808s were only cheap because styles had moved on and new ones weren’t being made. I won’t act like this is a grave sin on the part of Uli or advocate for a law against it (ahem, libertarian), but I understand why Loopop would choose not to do business with them.
I also understand why you and others would. If I ever follow through with my idea for a joke channel, I will probably avoid the Crave but happily compare the UB-Xa to the OB-X8 or their CS-80 clone to my Deckard’s Dream.
Thanks for a thoughtful (and honest) video!

But the first time I played one, the other day, was like an earthquake! 🫨 I hope that Behringer will be more in this ballpark than the Deckards, that I found a bit tired. But I did not have the RM Module. Also, the Ise-Nin is fat and a really nice synth. But in direct comparison with the real Jupiter-8 and even a Juno-6 it had a hard time. Until now, I am not totally convinced about Black Corporations products. Except the Xerxes that I really liked without having played a real Synthex yet. And there is the price. Compared to the Nina or the Super-6/Gemini, OB-X8 it's not exactly the same feel with the Hardware. And there are Synths like Behringer VC-340. Solidly built, works just fine and sounds awesome!
