The G6 is PHENOMENAL for gaming on the PS4. It sounds fantastic, and it's one of the only dac/amps I found that allow you to adjust game and voice chat independently, almost like a mixamp.
EXACTLY MAN! Thank you for saying this. It's seriously amazing for gaming and film, but also music. I've found it pairs well with any of my headphones and is my go to Amp/DAC. I never thought I would say that especially considering it's technically not an "audiophile" type of product. It sure performs like one!!

Thanks so much! I truly did enjoy the G6 and I think it's a bit more convenient than the K5 Pro although I won't be getting rid of the K5. I love both of them. I just think the G6 is a bit better for gamers and just ticks all the boxes. K5 Pro is more of an all around homie.

it sounds like you really dig this thing. just starting out with my shp 9500s and a cheapo syba sonic dac amp. I wanted to upgrade the amp part first before diving into more expensive headphone setups while maximizing what I already have on hand. This seems like it fits the bill. Thanks again stu.

Glad to hear that youre liking G6! Creative haters can suck it dry. I havent really used the software too much with my AE-5 except the EQ-settings. I cant actually even use the "default"-mode anymore after I downloaded the newest version of the software (SB Command), it just kind of freezes when I switch to it and I cant hear anything until I switch back to direct. Creative has a pretty problematic history with their drivers and softwares but I guess youre not having any problems?

Sound of AE-5? I cant really say anything reliable about that. To me it sounds pretty much the same as M9, NX4, Da2, 02 etc etc. At least I cant tell any real noticeable/substantial difference between them. Many people have said that its pretty comparable to something like O2 or DX3 Pro so supposedly quite "neutral" device.
How is the heating on G6? Some people on reddit said that their G6 overheat and they could even smell burning plastic, and their unit stopped working due to the heat, which made me worried. I'm planning to use it with a DT990 250ohm.
Hey man! Wow, crazy! Yeah mines does get warm-ish, but not scalding hot or anything like a Bravo Ocean lol. Smell plastic? I mean, I think that's kind of over-exaggerating it. You'll be fine lmao. Sheesh it ain't gonna burn your house down! HAHA! *sigh* Put it this way: I left the house with the Bravo Ocean on by accident a few times and it wasn't a big deal. That thing gets really hot though. You can fry an egg on that bad boy. I made sure to turn it off every subsequent time after just to be on the safe side. I will say that the G6 *is* plastic where as the Ocean isn't, but: Did you see my review of the G6? I’m still torn between g6 and k5 pro. I own the dt990 250ohm, main purposes are gaming and music listening. I don’t care about any of the features on the g6, as I want the raw sound performance out of it, without the sbx modifications. So with the g6 set on direct mode, how does it compare to the k5 pro in terms of soundstage, imaging and sound quality? After reading reviews about the g6 and the problems that come with it (mic not working in direct mode, connection inconsistencies, etc.), the k5 pro just seems like a more reliable and long-lasting option. With that in mind, I‘d like to know just how much I‘d be losing (soundstage, imaging...) if I chose the k5 pro, or if I‘d even be losing any of that. Anyways keep up the great work, loving the detailed reviews.
Thanks Chef! 17:56 I went over the raw differences (no effects turned on for G6), but no you're not losing anything as Soundstage has way more to do with the headphones and not the Amp. As far as the other issues, I have not had any. I tested my boom pro with the g6 and it's working fine but again, I haven't been using it that long as I just received it in the mail. If you don't care about any of the extra features then just go with the K5 Pro. I won't be getting rid of mine so if that's any indication then yeah I think it's a perfect solution for you. What mic will you be using?
@@HomeStudioBasics Thanks for the swift reply :), just ordered the k5 pro. Either a 3.5mm mic (modmic) that will go into my motherboard or an usb-mic (blue yeti). Oh, and another question: Do you think the k5 pro will provide enough power to run the dt 990 in 600 ohm? On their website it is said that the maximum ohm it supports is 300. However, considering the fact that the k5 pro has more power output (1.5W into 32 ohm) than the g6, which is supposed to be capable of running even headphones with an impedence up to 600 ohm, it wouldn't make much sense to market it in such conservative way, unless there is an issue with running high impedence cans on them, right? So, have you had any issues while running high impedence/low sensitivity cans with the k5 (clipping, distortion)?
Great review! Just wondering, when watching films did you use scout mode or SBX? I had the impression that scout mode is for first person shooters while SBX is for immersive games and movies. Did you find that to be the case?
Yeah I actually preferred scout mode with film as well because of the same interesting effects it had on spacing, detail, and immersion. SBX had a more subtle effect and I still don't fully understand how it works. I have been messing around with it for awhile now.

I think SBX adds reverb to create depth and wider position and relates to HRTF.

Silly question upfront: for destkop pc with an equal 50/50 interest in music and gaming (headphones mainly, small speakers for "relaxed listening") should I go for dac/amps like the Zen ifi dac (or the cheaper Fiio k3) or for this SoundBlasterX G6?
The G6's software feautres and all seem very neat but I don't need them, I'm mainly interested in ol' fashioned pure audio quality.
This question is the result of 2hrs of binge watching your channel (and reading your blog) trying to find an external "something" (I'm a newb so sound cards and dac/amps are very similar to me, need to nerd out to learn more!) for my Sennheiser hd599 with an eye to a possible upgrade when time comes. Man, I am nowhere close to being an audiophile and I feel already so sure yet confused with what I want.

I used to have a very humble Creative X-FI HD linked to the Superlux HD681 EVO and I was satisfied with it.
My current setup is on a pretty small desk (1/3 of what I had at uni - 35in x 23in but screen and computer take space) so I was intrigued with the small size of the Fiio K3/Soundblaster G6 etc...
Down to use case scenario.
I do a bit of gaming (Bf1, AC games, Kingdom Come, TW games etc...) but as you correctly assumed I gladly sacrifice surround (never used it tbh, maybe I should try it idk) for neutral "blah blah blah" sound (as you said, I could go on for hours with all the synonyms like clear, precise etc...).
That's cause audio "quality" (subjective term I know) trumps features in my book atm.
There is currently a coupon on my country's Amazon (works with your link too!) and it's down to €120 from 150. I should probably pull the trigger and set my mind on it, it's just that for some reason I feel "guilty/discomfortable" of buying something that looks gamery (which is weird as I like the design, it's just the marketing). Heck, on my country's Amazon you can't even find it as "Sound Blasterx G6", it's literally called "Gaming DAC HD 7.1 external USB sound card".

Thank you! To be honest man, I was.. until I heard that they will be requiring you to sign a consent basically saying that you're okay with them monitoring every word you say through your microphone. Soooo.. nah. Probably not lmao. As for compatibility, it will probably be fine but don't quote me on that.
@@HomeStudioBasics Thanks man I saw other users saying G6 works fine with ps5 and its even louder than on PS4. Also Sony clarified that they are not recording you, but they allows other users record you and send it to them to be used as a proof for Harassment or something, I think we’ll be fine just chat in a private party, still sucks tho.
Hmm.. Interesting. Yeah I don't think I've ever berated anyone anyways lol. Now I kinda want to get a PS5. It's crazy man, Originally my dad had an NES back in the 80's, then my parents got me a SNES around '91, but after that I got PS1,2,3, and now 4. Its almost like a certainty I will get a 5.
I have a couple concerns about the G6. First, is it possible to use it trough the line in and main headphone out?(like an amp, bypassing the DAC) Does the volume wheel still work normally? What about the line out? This is because I was thinking of the chance of running another DAC trough this to get more power. The scout mode seems like a handy thing to have for movies. So you just want to use a separate DAC into the G6 and use the G6 as the amp? Don't see why not! I have not actually tried it with the G6 but I have used that method with many other DACS so I will do so and get back to you about the volume wheel. It should function as normal. As for using this as a DAC, I think you meant into another AMP for more power. So something like an ATOM or Objective 2 although I don't see why you would need that. In the review I harped on how much power the G6 already has so I don't know what would be the point of that? What are your thoughts?

Home Studio Basics since the G6 is known to be rather powerful, I thought maybe using one of those little dongle dac thingies for MQA support with G6's amp. And use full G6 dac/amp for every other case. I kind of need the amp to be usb powered, and I like all the possibilities the G6 offers. Ifi's tone is probably too warm for me..
@@abrahamlendechy273 Hmm haven't tried it. Can you link that so I can check it out? I love the G6 man. I'm demoing the HiFiMan DEVA with it and out of the box I had to EQ it but using the equalizer setting in SoundBlaster Connect was so quick and easy. Now the headphone sounds incredible.
Home Studio Basics Ztella dac or Atom Pro dac, they are both tiny dongle dacs with MQA support. Not powerful enough though. That's why I came up with the idea..

I have never own headphones or independent Amp/Dacs. No experience at all. And I'm kind of a fanatic for movies and sound tracks.
What set Headphones+Amp/Dac would you advice for movies? I had been thinking in the AKG K702 but then I noticed that You have put the Philips Fidelio X2HR at the top for gamming and the K712 as the best for classical music.
About the Amps/Dacs. The G6 looks like a bargain, but would it be durable? The cheap small plastic body with a such big power output and heating causes me some doubts.
Hey man! I have heard some people complaining of heat, but I haven't personally had any issues. You have to remember that people love to nitpick products to death. In reality, it's just not that big of a deal to me. I run the G6 pretty much every day and it's not a problem. And yeah I'd go with either the K612 or K702. The 612 is smoother and warmer, while the K702 is more clear and crisp. I personally love both. Where did I mention the X2HR?

Hey man! Well, 1 isn't technically high, but there is a touch of warmth I suppose. High is like 10 Ohm or above to me, but... The 599 is already rather warm so yeah, it may not do quite as well. Perhaps something like an L30 would do you better, but are you doing to be doing any console gaming? Check out my L30 vs. Zen CAN stack review. I think the L30/E30 would be great for the 599. Hey man!! Thank you for the love. Hhaha #weareaudiofiles Haven't heard of those. I don't know if people would watch that on my channel because they are IEM's and I'm really not an IEM guy myself. For whatever reason they just don't do it for me. I think it has something to do with holding a headphone in your hand lol. The feeling is simply unrivaled. I've always been that way with headphones.
The g6 sounds great, all the extra features are really fun and make gaming/music/movies way more immersive, you can tweak so MUCH things...but oh man I hate the plastic build, feels so cheap...the k5 pro seems way nicer in that department. Anyways... I would def recommend for PC gaming, its one of the most solid options for that I think.

Nah man don't bother lol. I do like the K5 because I can do so much with it as it has 2 pairs of RCA jacks, an optical input, and coax so if you think you'll utilize all those then it's a pretty crazy value. The G6 is pretty much just as versatile thought because it has a line in and line out so you can hook it up to pretty much anything as well plus it doesn't need optical to play with a ps4 and it's easier to move around.

@@HomeStudioBasics hey! I have bought it and all I can say it's wow... Paired it with PS4 and the difference is hhuuuggeee. I mean the sound is fuller clearer and you can customize it from the PC program ( yes it carries the settings) Scout mode is a must for fps games . You pretty much covered all that staff in your video . But where I was shocked it was from my PC speakers( 10 years old kinda cheap ass 2.1 system) Man the difference is dramatic. At 50 volume from my onboard soundcard the sound was average and not full. But with this I have the same volume at 20(the old 50= new 20 referring to the volume) and the sound is way more full and better. Of course you can tune the sound via the program from Creative. Personally I have crystalizer at max and bass boost at 50 . Day and night difference really. That's my honest mini review. The experience you get is way better . Of course also the better the headset, speakers etc you have the better the sound. If you are a hard-core audiophile or something like that maybe you have spent way more money to get the sound you like but for a gamer guy and a guy that wants a far better fuller and more bass heavy sound than the basic sound you get from your onboard soundcard it is a great choice. Sorry for the long post and my bad English but I would like to help those of you who hesitate. It definitely is a great product. A VFM product i would say. For ~120 bucks you get a great package and for sure a much much more greater experience than your onboard soundcard provides that you can enjoy with your console your pc speakers , headset etc .

Do you need to have a plug for the mic and sound for it to work like in an online party or streaming?
Hey man! Yeah. So what kind of headphone were you looking to pair the G6 with? Right now I'm using the HIFIMAN DEVA th-cam.com/video/8igHmplF_pQ/w-d-xo.html with the Boom Mic. The Boom Mic comes with a female to dual male 3.5mm dongle. I just plug one side in to the audio on the left, and the other into the right for the mic. Then switch to mic mode (Red halo light), and you're set. I'm going to be doing a comparison between the Boom Mic and Ant Lion Mod Mic so stay tuned for that! But let me know what headphone you're considering. The DEVA is awesome. I also have an SHP9500 for that too. Anything with a detachable 3.5mm jack works great!

@@SharrodVisuals Well I love the quality of the G6 and all of the combos I have so it's not really a big deal to me I guess. I also like DAC + Amp (Objective 2 with DAC magic 100, modi dac + other amp, DF Red into Bravo Ocean, E10K/K3 into any amp).
You're not going to go "Wow! This is so much better than a combo amp/dac!"
I wouldn't get hung up on all that. Maybe just get an iFi Zen to start as it's a great combo Amp/DAC and sounds fantastic.

Hmm.. Haven't tried the G3!! Is it brand spankin' new? Looks like it just came out. I'm looking for an output impedance number for it as that's usually a good indicator of how it's going to sound. If you can find one def let me know!
And nah its not wrong, but do be careful if/when you're switching out headphones (if you have any) with lower impedances I suppose. :) I mostly prefer wired and I've found that I always need to stop and make sure the volume is low before plugging in something else. If you only have 1 you're currently using it shouldn't be an issue. What headphones you have?
Home Studio Basics I use a 32ohm 6-35k Hz SHP9500/Boompro mic/G3/PS4+. I couldn’t find any output impedance info about this sound blaster G3, but I like this for the Bluetooth app to enter settings option, mobile use and option to mix chat/game volume on PS4 (it receives game audio through USB and chat sound though optical, so I can adjust my preferred volume for each.
So far this combo works great on PS4, too bad upcoming XBOX console will not come with optical port, so I might need to get another AMP/DAC by then..
Also, I was thinking to upgrade headphones to similar sound profile (DT880 or Sundara), do you think this upgrade is sound worth the hassle of having to buy new mic/extra cable, etc?

As far as an upgrade from the 9500, yeah those 2 would be great as a step up. 880 is going to sound pretty similar to the 9500 in terms of treble brightness, but the Sundara is much different. It's a lot warmer and smoothed over sounding. Good Soundstage, but not mind blowing or anything.

You concentrate on the other characters because they are so compelling, but his role, and the way he plays it holds the whole thing together, he’s just so very believable.

Is he in the room next door and Ed Tom chose the right one (going with the theme of fate). The whole movie is just so incredible and really makes you think about a lot of things.

@@antoinep9733 Wow nice. Didn't really think about the fact that the tape covers both. It also makes sense because of what Moss does earlier in the movie. The money is never quite where you think it is. His trick was to hide it in an adjacent room.
I like the door next door theory probably the best right next to the "It's all in his head" scenario. The door next door suggests that what Chigurh has been harping on the entire movie is precisely the point: That Ed Tom choosing "the right door" was fate. If he chose 112, Chigurh would have killed him. Instead he decides on 114 and Chigurh's not there. The only thing is that for Chigurh to have been able to see him, the lock in 112 would have also had to have been blown out (which it probably is considering that's where the money likely was). We can't really see if it is from the outside. That's the only way he could have seen Ed Tom through a reflection.
The all in his head scenario is also interesting as it supports Ed Tom's "it's almost like he's a ghost" line in that: It seems impossible to catch Chigurh or put a stop to his antics because he's so elusive - a supernatural unstoppable evil in Bell's eyes. Really like some sort of strange mythology. Because of this, and Ed Tom's fear, he kind of conjures up Chigurh in his head to be there behind the door when in reality he's probably long gone (as evidenced by the dime shot).

Shall I try the Yeti with the G6? I don't have the luxury of being able to jump on an FPS live chat at the moment. I mostly just record my voice over single player to determine differences in mics like the Mod Mic and Boom Pro.

There are 2 ways to try the Yeti.
1. Plug it straight to the PS4 via USB. and plug the G6 to PS4 via USB & Optical.
2. Use Micro usb to 3.5 jack converter. ( in order to plug it into the G6 mic port).

Lol dude you pick the one amp that I didn't compare it with. XD Wait actually I did a quick one. Check 10:26. For your question it really depends on your PC's internal DAC. Some of the newer ones like my Lenovo X1 Extreme have pretty good ones! I feel just fine running a 3.5 interconnect from my laptop into the ATOM. I believe I A/B'd it with a DF red as the DAC into another amp and really couldn't tell much of a difference. Keep in mind I don't rely on my PC's dac full time or anything. It was mostly just a test. So my question would be what kind of PC do you have? I used to have a Lenovo T510 and would never consider using the soundcard inside of that. It was REALLY bad.

For instance, I just received the DEVA from HiFiMan and was easily able to use the EQ feature in SoundBlaster Connect to bring 8-10kHz down by 4.5-5dB and now it's absolutely incredible sounding. The G6 is simply one of the most versatile pieces of gear I've come across. You can go all Metal571 with it homie!

Home Studio Basics Sweet, so many choices, also with the G3 in play since my needs are minimal.
G3 is good but under powered a bit. I can't really drive a DEVA with it which is kind of disappointing. It does pretty well with the other headphones I have: K702, 612, HD600, and 9500.

hello, can anyone help me, i bought this 3 days ago for PC use. The sound is great but I can barely hear my friends in discord and i even put them to 200 volume on discord but they still sound very low. I would have turn the game to like volume 8 to and still barely hear them. Is there anyway to turn chat mixer up? I know they only have chat mixer option for PS4.
Hey man did you mess with the volume on your PC? I know it sounds basic but I've forgotten to turn mine up many times. Also what mic are you using? If it's a boom pro I sometimes forget to turn up the inline mic. Check those and let me know.

@@HomeStudioBasics nah feel the quality is there like they are no different to say my beats headphones but as far as footsteps in call of duty it’s near impossible to tell direction even left and right is a struggle to be honest. Settings are correct even with Dolby atmos hoping if I get squeeze some more power into them they will liven up
@@mattanderson109 Yeah the G6's Scout Mode will definitely help with that. I've found it to open up even something like an HD600 which is notorious for having a narrow image.

I actually had an issue with the G6 yesterday but got it resolved. It was turning on and making the sound like it was recognized, but not showing up in my audio panel. So I did a bunch of typical things that you'd do like re-boot PC, un-plug, re-boot the G6 (hold down scout mode and the volume pot at the same time), and still no luck. So I decided to un-install all drivers and all firmware and it finally showed up. I think what happened was there was too much conflicting software trying to function at once. Check to see what you have installed and just get rid of it all and start over. :) Let me know!

How long do they last before peeling and I will get a good fit? I've seen some complains about fitting(sealing) issues on K550... I have a big head and normal size ears, what's your opinion??? Also, which bass of the two can extend deeper? Reviews saying for the k550 that bass can extend deep without emphasizing, but which of the two heaphones has deeper sub-bass?
@@jimis3167 Yeah when I demoed them all of the concerns about fit were pretty much true. It took a few seconds of me adjusting them around to get a good seal but once I did it was smooth sailing. I think it also depends on your head. I really want to try one out. If you have a big head like me I think you'll be okay. Mine is sore of more narrow but longer, perhaps yours is wider? Probably would be a bit better for you actually. It's been awhile since I heard a 770 or 553 though so I'm not exactly sure on bass. Extension would probably go to 553, slam to 770. Don't quote me on that though.

Wow are you serious? That's awful. I just got my boom pro so it darn well better work! LOL. I will let you know. There may be something small that needs a tweak but I'm not entirely sure. Not trying to say you don't know what you're doing but sometimes I can miss something which results in no sound. For instance the other day I was setting up my small home theater and forgot to switch the back of the turntable to phono LOL.

What up dude. So watching this review, I really took note on what you said the difference between the G6 and K5Pro as far as how the end-user will utilize the device. Definitely, the G6 is for the gamers looking to get ahead in audio quality of their games; whereas the K5Pro is for the music enthusiast. For me, the music enthusiast, I'm definitely going to give the K5Pro a shot (whenever that product is back in stock). Right now, I'm using a Scarlett 8i6 3rd gen audio interface, and it's not giving my DT770 Pro 250ohm headphones enough power. Don't get me wrong, this audio interface also can be EQ'd (minimally) like the G6, but I need a little more versatility. I really like the feature that the G6 has where you're able to nit-pick your levels. I doubt the K5Pro has that feature right? Anyway, great review as always. I decided to "smash that Like button" and hit the subscribe button to your channel because (in your own words), "...you will be draining your battery's phone" ...riiiiiiiiiiiight.

Yeah the shop scene is probably the most powerful in the entire movie along side the scene I mentioned to you earlier. Def give it a re-watch as it's one of the most thought provoking moments that I can recall in film. Certainly there are a lot of those but I was telling Antoine that it's one of the few movies I've ever seen that really feels like it actually happened. Shawshank was another that to me was incredibly realistic and believable. When you re-watch, take note of Tommy Lee Jones' character as well.

Yeah man I feel for you. My supposedly "free" country of America is getting to be unrecognizable as well. Years and years of corruption and clandestine antics have finally caught up, but now society is so brainwashed they can't even see the type of draconian measures that are being implemented slowly, right under their noses. My third eye has been open for over 10 years now so it's not really a surprise.
