  • The 2018 Subaru WRX STI is a great car. What makes it even better is that there is a ton of aftermarket companies that produce parts to customize your Subaru to your own tastes. Here are some exterior mods you can do to any 2015-2018 Subaru WRX STI.

    Great video. I just purchased a WRX STI Series Grey based on a previous video you did. Still in the break in period. The smiles per gallon is off the charts. Had a 16' Limited STI I traded and it held awesome value. I am a sold Subie fan! Thanks to your great videos. Keep them coming!

    Thanks for the video. Just purchased these traklites in 18x9 et 35 for my 18 STI! Was very hesitant to 18" after seeing how good the 19s look on my year, but the weight and price of the traklites are a no brainer. FYI: 2018 / 2019 STI OEM 19's weigh 28.4 EACH. With tires, each wheel comes to about 54.5 lbs. The 18x9 traklites weigh only 19lbs each, so that's nearly a 10lb reduction in each corner.

    Just an FYI, the 2018 STI and of course the 2018 Type RA are not the first production Subaru's to get the 6-piston front brembos.
    The STI Spec-C Type RA-R also got 6-piston front brembos very similar to the ones now equipped on the new Type RA and in the same silver color.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dan Connors you are 💯 correct, and I appreciate the input. I was just referring to the USA spec since the Spec C or any other special JDM models never came to the States.

    Hi Joe, it’s so true what you say, I tell people that you can almost not find a stock STI and the amount of aftermarket products available is crazy. If you recall in one of your previous videos I sent a list of all the mods I had done already. Well it’s modding season again for me, yesterday I installed wind deflectors, today I will install Subispeed sweeping S4 bezels, New Lugnuts, interior door overlay protectors, New cartridge for my air freshener, and a new magnetic mount for my cell phone LOL. A couple weeks ago I tinted my windows. Next month I will get the Cobb access port, Cobb SF intake, IAG air oil separator, and a professional tune from one of the best tuners in the country. Then I’m going to send my headlights to Circuit Demon for some crazy work done: blacking out, modified technologies C lights, multicolor Halo’s, multicolor demon eyes 👍

    The ikon Motorsport you call "splitter" is actually called a "front lip." A front splitter is something way different from a front lip.
    Also, the roof diffuser you call is actually called an vortex generator.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stussy _STI please give more details I’m always willing to learn. Thanks for your input.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stussy _STI isn’t a “front lip” the rigid extension of the lower part of the front bumper?

    • @roykim5322
      @roykim5322 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Raiti's Rides Front lip, mostly used by everyone for appearance and "lowered car look," but can also be used for aerodynamics. Front lips are drilled into the bumper like the ikon Motorsport one(I know cuz it's on my sti too). However, a real "front splitter" is mounted on the chassis, so people can stand on the splitter and won't break off because the weight distribution is supported by being mounted on the chassis. Real "front splitters" are used for aero dynamics such as downforce. Most front splitters out there that people have on the car are not real. They're not chassis mounted and serve no performance aspect, but serve as an "appearance" mod. They mount directly to the front lip and if you stand on it, it'll tear right off with the front lip. I mean I guess they could offer some downforce? Also, you can distinguish a front lip and a front splitter easily because the front lip would look bulky and aggressive, but a front splitter is fairly low profile and flat.
      I'm not an expert at all this, i may be wrong, but this is all I know from my past research and knowledge. As for the vortex generator and its purpose, there's a lot of videos out there explaining. I just happen to know the names of most of the parts that are put in the subie 😂

    Love the caliper color. I'd have mine painted as well but I could get a front sway bar installed instead. I don't think many colors pop when the car is already red as well... Maybe a glossy white? Red on Red might be ok since the rims are black. Like that Perrin front too and his meaty tires.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you look at the 2018 RED STIs the day glow yellow really pops. I think the biggest issue with white would be the brake dust. Even with some brake dust on the day glow yellow they are still pretty bright.

    • @alphazoomii9408
      @alphazoomii9408 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea I was thinking that as well...the brake dust. I'm not sure what it costs a shop to paint the calipers but I know I would not be doing it myself. So there is that..... but day glow yellow would be nice as well.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Always liked the STI, I just feel they have lost something over the years. They really need to do something about that EJ, I think its time Subaru.......It's time. The cars haven't been the same since they pulled out of rally, maybe not getting the same R & D they use to get having a full time rally team. They are still a big step up from the norm, it will always be in the top 10 affordable fast cars in my book though.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Adam Randell that is an awesome perspective and I totally agree. It broke my heart when Subaru pulled out of the WRC after the 2008 season. To be honest they were not really performing like they should of those last few years in especially in 2008. I hope Subaru is going to bring back that magic for the 2020 model. They can do it, and they know the fans want it. Will they do its yet to be determined.

      More power will mean more money, the sti is only a few grand under some 400+ hp v8's. If the sti becomes more expensive, people might just spend their money elsewhere. I think thats one of the reasons they've kept it at 300hp for all these years, to stay in the market that demands a car like sti evo wrx focus rs golf r and so on.

    Nothing against the video, as this dude clearly knows what he's talking about. But for the noob watching, the boxer in and of itself doesn't really provide a rumble. That sound specifically is created by the unequal length headers in the STI. 2014 WRX also had this sound but in 2015 they went to equal length headers in the WRX.

    The 2018 is nice but the update is pointless, the 6 piston brembos don't add much and the drilled disks are a recipe for disaster.
    Would have rather of seen a brake cooling package for the front and 2 piece rotors, plus a customisable triple gauge arrangement for the centre display.

  • @hunterbawlz
    @hunterbawlz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just out of curiosity, what lowering springs did Michael put on his STi to achieve a 1.5-inch drop? I'm currently in the market for springs; coilovers are too expensive for a daily! Also, I am choosing the wheel spacer route instead of getting offset wheels because I cannot afford new wheels and I've heard that, as long as everything is torqued appropriately, spacers have nearly the same effect on the bearings and suspension geometry as offset wheels do.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Joe, out of all the manufactures I have only been involved with Subaru enthusiast car groups. Also the only car I have really modified is my Subaru. Therefore I am really curious how the other manufacturer based car groups compare , for example Lexus, BMW, Ford, or evo. Since you have had many different types of cars, do you have experience with the other groups? how would you compare the different groups? I have often heard Subaru has a wonderful community but I have never experienced other communities. I go to a lot of car meets and I see a lot of different cars there but within manufacture base groups I am curious how they differ. Thanks

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's interesting because I really feel such a close brotherhood when it comes to Subaru groups. When it comes to Porsche groups they are very tracked focused and do many track day events or autocross events. You always get that huge rival between the Mustang groups and Camaro groups. Depending where you go the age of the members of the group can greatly vary. I think it's great when I see older individuals modeling good behaviors for younger members. I remember when I was 17 I bought myself a Corvette and joined a local Corvette club. I was the youngest member but learned so much from everyone in the group. To be honest a lot has to do with the person's personality. Many times we seek out those that are close to ourselves. So that is going to be a huge factor on how you interpret how a group acts.
      The bottom line is it's good to try to keep an ope mind and enjoy all tat the car world has to offer. I really love going to car gatherings, rather then car shows because they are so lid back and everyone is there just to share the passion.
      I hope this answers your question. Thanks for asking it!

      I could have opted for 5zigen fn01r-c,Gram Lights 57cr or the Mach 5 wicked Awesome. It was still not what I was looking for in my particular likening, I did extensive research on how the Motegi wheels are casted, background history on the company and customer reviews for these wheels, and I personally though they were worth a try. If it's cheap, its subjective to who you ask, but generally just because it cost more does not mean all the time is going to yield better results! (Look at Maserati vehicles, and all the complaints they have) Thanks you for your feedback!

    Between this and Nissan z370,which one would you prefer?

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Amir Hossein Salamatian well that’s really an apple to orange type of comparison. Best for the money I’m going with the STI. Don’t get me wrong I ALMOST bought a 370Z before my Subaru back in 2015. One of the MAJOR issues for me with the 370Z was that the car really hasn’t been updated since 2009. So the interior plastics are a little off compared to new cars. The AWD in the Subaru helps outperform the 370Z especially in the right hands or wet conditions. The Subaru of course has waaaay more room. It really comes down to personal preference. Let me know if you have any other questions.

      Paul DE GUZMAN sometimes we do the best with what we have and this owner has a nice setup. Thank you for your feedback.

      A front lip is going to get scratched or crack due to lowering the vehicle (nature of the beast) and if so why would I like to spend $400 dollars for a part that had high wear and tear from Subaru? Or maybe a carbon fiber or an APR front lip kit? As far as other parts I choose to use for my vehicle, I choose the wheels after doing research on them for an extended period of time. What else is cheap?!

    Holy shit. I MUST get a splitter. I MUST get wheels. I MUST get wheel spacers instead of getting the correct offset. I MUST get side skirts. I MUST go to cars and coffee. I MUST get a roof diffuser because it’s easy to do. I MUST get nice lowering springs to get a look. I MUST get a rear diffuser. I MUST get a custom exhaust. Why MUST I do all these things?
    You MUST send me a check for $10,000 because I MUST buy all this useless shit. Kthxbai.
