    So what I observed from this is that the initial fire trucks 35/32 said B772 didn't have smoke or heat from the Rt engine. Then someone says the tires also look fine. After B772 starts rolling toward gate B38 all of a sudden they've got smoke from the wheels, a fuel leak, and debris/f.o.d. was found on the runway. So in the end, they had to follow the plane and hose down its tires. Should probably have just hosed the wheels down b/c they had to be hot.

    • @fordrac1ng81
      @fordrac1ng81 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      While moving, they cool down from the air, so after stopping for a bit, they heated back up. Not good to rapidly cool metal parts unless you have to because of the heat stress on the metal parts as well as having to use what little water they have available. If they can use fans to cool the brakes, it's a better option than to put water on them. When they're super hot, typically planes will taxi around the airport for 5-10 minutes to cool them down.

      I don’t get why they didn’t make the plane come to a full stop on the runway..the pilot really didn’t seem to understand the seriousness of the situation..that plane should not have been anywhere near a gate until it had been fully inspected by the fire and emergency guys. Everyone else here was doing an incredible job except the pilot. Lucky he didn’t incinerate everybody on board along with the grass on Bravo-7.

      @@virginiaviola5097What we're hearing is a typical =possible= warm or hot brakes situation. The fire crew saw liquid condensation, which was most likely water condensation, and they wanted to just ensure that it wasn't fuel draining down onto the brakes. All aircraft brakes are extremely warm after landing, but that warm temperature is not always cause for declaring a ground emergency. Typical "hot brakes" emergencies require 1200 degree tempreatures on the brake stack. At 800 degrees, the term is "warm brakes". The fire crew would have checked the temperature of the brakes with a thermal scanner and did not indicate an issue. Moisture on the exterior of the aircraft comes from many sources, including condensation and from the environmental system (air conditioning and pressurization) of the aircraft. The fire crew member is most likely asking as a precautionary measure, yet an unsafe condition is not evident and taxiing back to parking is the best choice, as they can de-plane the passengers safely and will have cooling fans and maintenance personnel at the gate. Were a fire to break out, the gate areas also are typically plumbed in to a hydrant system, so an unlimited supply of water would be available for fire fighting operations. With the grass fires on the field, the backup trucks sounded like they were out of operation, until they refilled their tanks.

    Logistically that seemed like a nightmare all around, and they did a superb job.
    Quick question about the runway configuration. Are runways which form a broken T (like the 16s and 25s) treated the same as crossing runways for trafficing purposes? Going around on one would I presume put you unacceptably close to potential traffic on the other? I.e. no simultaneous takeoffs/landings on the two runways?

    • @tomhejda6450
      @tomhejda6450 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes in the "wrong" direction, but it's obviously ok to take off from 34L while someone lands 25/7 as they'll never cross each other.

    • @balsoft01
      @balsoft01 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomhejda6450 But what if the landing aircraft goes around?

    • @tomsmith5584
      @tomsmith5584 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      DEN was deliberately set up like a pinwheel, so planes could land and takeoff without coming into conflict. They don't land on the 17s or 25 since the 16s or 26 would work better since you would get to the threshold sooner. The only exception is if they need to use 34L for landing if they have a plane that needs an extra long runway to land on.

    • @prg2812
      @prg2812 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They put up staging so they can all take a bow. Why not indeed.

    • @andrewbarnett84
      @andrewbarnett84 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Staging is putting equipment away, and looking at what needs to be replaced. If they wear the air bottles for example they will have to be replaced with full ones, and then re-charged.

    • @davidelse5187
      @davidelse5187 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Staging is pre-positioning fire equipment...engines, ambulances, personnel...in designated positions in proximity to the incident to reduce travel delays. In this case, engines were staged at different points on the runway so they could quickly access the aircraft if it stopped or crashed at any point along the runway.

    Why don’t they have water lines built with the runways?

    • @Nords555
      @Nords555 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      just one more hard object for a plane to crash into if they go off runway... and cost... probably used once every 1o years, not worth it or the risk...

    • @andrewtaylor940
      @andrewtaylor940 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There’s no real reason to pipe water mains along or under runways (unless it makes sense for other purposes, such as a de-icing station or looping a main out to remote fuel storage tanks) Air Crash trucks carry enough water for the initial hit and the City Engines can each drop 1-2 miles of portable water main/supply line should they need an extended supply.

  • @beeble2003

    2:45 I'm confused. Departure/approach says that the plane is 10 miles north of Greeley (KGXY), dumping fuel. Greeley is 40 miles north of KDEN, so the plane should be about 50 miles north. But the inset map appears to show the plan well south of Denver. The orientation of the map appears to be correct, as the Rocky Mountains are west of Denver and shown to the left.

    • @thebigitchy
