Betrayed his word and the people he said he would trust out of pure vengeance. Arthur learned to let go, and died peacefully for it, a better man than most of those he ran with. John made no promise to himself, nor his family. You can still see that spark of wild in him when sadie comes to get him for micah. He doesn't even hesitate before saddling up. And in rdr1 his vengeance cost him his family. Only by indulging in the hunt of his brothers did he get them back, as well as the US army and pinkertons. John learned from the lessons of his peers, yet the most important lesson alluded him, resulting in the gruesome early death of John Marston, and tainting of his sons heart. Vengeance is a fools game, but in the end what are we if not all fools?

And he was really just waiting for john to leave so he could die knowing at least something was worth the years of running and crime. You can deny her, which is likely what a paragon Arthur would do. But i think Arthur is much more gray than that. He really doesn't see the odriscoll gang as people. Or humans. He learns some empathy to a degree with the one they take prisoner, then eventually adopt. But when he is killed, by his own past gang, arthur really has no sympathy for them. I think he considered the fact that Sadie would never give it up and walk away, that is was his duty to the gang and himself to protect his sister and rid the world of few more bloodthirsty bastards. Redemption isnt black and white. The first game was crazy dark sometimes, and john could be a down right asshole in cannon. Its just how you want to look at it.

And the Marston part is more like the journey of a lonely man trying to put back his life whit his family but cant let go of all the pain and guilt from the past. John Marston is what Arthur Morgan would be if he could have escape from that outlaw life whit Mary Linton. (In my opinion)

I feel he could've expressed his feelings with Abigail better when she was mad at him in Jim Milton Rides Again for saving those cattle. In a way, we start with John alone and lonely in pain in a snowy mountain to alone and lonely John rising to power peaking over another snowy mountain.
The fact that John pretty much single handedly murdered all of Micah/Dutch's gang on the mountain before he even reached his true prime speaks volumes as to how dangerous he was
Dude takes on the Mexican and US military later on in his life and actually beats a zombie plague in an alternate universe. John is leaning towards being a force of nature rather than a person.
This scene is so good too because the enemies you’re fighting don’t just feel like a bunch of random expendable guys, you’re just outright wiping out Dutch’s new support system
@@Herryyyynope, Dutch was gonna be betrayed and handed over to the pinkertons by Micah. It's clear when they arrived in the credits to find Micahs corpse.
They weren't going at Micah's request, they heard rumors that there had been a shootout there and went looking for clues until they arrived at Mount Hagen. Dutch, from what it seems, actually went to kill Micah, so much so that when John asks what he's doing there, Dutch replies "Same as you, I guess"
Just the epicness of the moment where John must continue on alone to avenge Arthur and every other gang member that fell due to Micahs treachery. John leaves a wounded Charles and Sadie behind, and continues for the slope only to be met by former Van der Linde prospective member, Joe and two others. Just the background music and the dialogue between the two is great, the fact that it's basically the picture for the song shows how epic of a moment it was to fans. These are the only lines that Joe ever gets in story mode (has alot of dialogue in RDR online) and to be honest with you his character didn't last long in the battle but he was a familiar face and his brief dialogue with John made the scene more epic that's for sure, wiping him out just intensified the moment for me. Accompanied by the blood curdling shouts of, "Micah!! Ive come for you!!!" The scene really was amazing But yeah the music was really for this I really wish they would turn Red Dead redemption into a TV show or something it would do amazingly I think. Personally I do not have a favorite between John or Arthur, they are both legendary characters and I possess equal respect for both men and journey's. But playing as John in this final scene it felt great 👍🏻

He walked away from him when Arthur died, he's not that dishonorable when it comes to John and Arthur; his two sons. At least in RDR2, he owed that much to Arthur. This was also him closing the book on his noble persona before becoming the man John meets in 1911.

Isn't it crazy after all that Rockstar has done for us, we still doubted that Arthur could stack up against John as a protagonist? And then there we were, watching him die to the sunset, ripping our soul apart, but we had the audacity to be surprised.
It's only worse in hindsight. I didn't pick up on the real rivalry between John & Arthur until my second play through, and it makes even more sense. Anyone who played RDR is going to be on team Marston, and probably grumpy were playing as someone else. But in the end, Arthur and John were equals. Brothers. Both got a raw deal while trying to be good men.
John Marston is the chillest dude in history. He literally didn't give one fuck to a zombie apocalypse, and simply faced death like a chad. This song only plays when he actually gets angry.

Is what John is really about. He's a guy who does his best to be a nice guy but there is a unforgiving croner inside of him that can spread like wildfire once he ignites it. On this mission,the flames were burning white hot.
The story of Red Dead Redemption has to be one of the best stories ever told through a video game. Arthur lives a life of crime, Arthur dies saving John, and Arthur is Redeemed. John kills Micah, and Arthur is Avenged. John tries to run, but his old life catches up to him, John dies saving his Family, and John is Redeemed. Jack kills Ross, and John is Avenged. Red Dead Redemption is the story of human nature and the vicious cycle it creates, Death, Revenge, and Redemption...
The sad part is that in the end everything was for nothing. Like Arthur said "vengeance is an idiot's game". If John didn't kill Micah Ross wouldn't have found him. This makes Arthur's sacrifice worthless. Then John proceeds to sacrifice himself for his family but Jack took revenge on Ross making his father's sacrifice mean nothing as well. Now Jack has become what everyone who ever cared about him tried to stop him from becoming. An outlaw on the run with nothing to live for.

some people dont notice how much john went through, he got shot in the blackwater massacre, he was mauled by wolves, he was shot on the train robbery and left behind and walked from one state to another with a wound in his hip, got shot over 20 times in the end of rdr1 and was alive until he bled out, he was one stronger dangerous outlaw

Today April 17, 2022 I finished Red Dead Redemption 2 and I must say it was a insane game with endless details and great characters. Arthur Morgan a character I got so attached…and will forever be in my heart and soul. Playing as John Marston seeing him grow as a character and as a husband and father just left me speechless. When this song was playing on the mountains I felt like a badass and all I had in my mind was “this is for Arthur”. RDR1 is definitely my next game for me to explore!

Edit: Man, when I made this awhile back I just wanted to comment on a music video dedicated to one of my fav game protags. I didn't think every Arthur simp and contrarian in the RDR community would piss and shit themselves over it smh.
This perfectly encapsulates John Marston, a man on a mission to try and put his past behind him and move into the future with his family... even if in the end it was ultimately pointless. Rdr2 was the story of a dying west and a man's quest to save the ones he loved and redeem himself and forgive himself. The slow realization that hes living in a world where outlaws are no longer welcome, where his gang is truly dying. Arthur soughy to save as many people as he could before the hand of death came for them all Rdr1 was a story about an already dead west and a man's mission, to put his past behind him and to save the ones he loved. Sure its called red dead redeption, but I argue that John didn't seek redemption... just security in knowing he would bury the past, even if he would be buried with it, thats why he's so accepting when the moment comes for him to die Arthur was always a cowboy and an outlaw But through to 1911 John was truly the last cowboy.

@@arsnau8997 I don't really compare rdr2 to the last of us 2 because in the end ellie doesn't even get her revenge meaning all of those deaths both sides caused were for nothing. In red dead redemption 2 however, John Marston was the perfect foreshadowing since the entire game everyone calls him an idiot.

@@Zee-Core-Gaming Abigail was thinking about Jack's safety and her own, John's priority should have been to keep them safe, not get himself into trouble. Yeah saving people is good, but two things: it wasn't John's business to do that, he wasn't the law nor was he employed to do that, his business was to provide for his family. By getting into fights he put himself at risk (and by extension, his family) and he made himself more visible to the law. He's still a wanted man. Let's not forget that at the very start of the epilogue they are still on the move because John killed some guy. And secondly, Abigail knew John was a troublemaker, and she wasn't there to see when he was only defending himself or other people, so she only had his word to go on, and past experiences. You could understand why she was skeptical about his excuses. TL;DR: No good saving strangers if you ruin your family in the process.

If I was Micah, the thing I'd be most terrified of is Arthur's hat. Seeing John wearing it would mean that he hasn't let go of what I did to the gang for an entire century. The memories, rage, and honor flowing through that hat all at the same time. Seeing the bodies of my gang falling into the snow before it. Absolutely bone-chillingly horrifying.
Arthur’s Character arc is emotional and human, filled with the struggles of morality and how to deal with his impending doom John’s character arc is just simply becoming the baddest ass gunslinger in the whole west. This is the song that solidifies that transition.
John Marston Theme just captures that theme of the looming dread and death coming your way. An unstoppable warrior ready to fight, at any given moment. All for one thing. Freedom.
I'm just imagining that this song plays whenever something is REALLY stacked up against your favor, and instead of buckling under and admitting defeat, you just smile and say, "I don't care what happens after this. Whether it is good or bad, I need to keep going until either I'm dead or I succeed in my goal. I'm not leaving until one of those two things happen."
I can picture Clint Eastwood saying something like "I'm either leaving in a hearse or they are" then tipping off his hat, putting his signature smirk and going in guns blazing!!!
I wasn’t really interested in the American west in the 1800s and I wasn’t interested in cowboys or gunslingers. Now since i played rdr2 and currently playing rdr1. I love the west.
John Marston remains as the best gunslinger in RD storyline, Arthur was his brother and mentor - giving John the chance to become who he became - the man who gunned down an entitely new Dutch crew. Twice.
spoilers btw in the end, no one won obviously Arthur died, then Micah, Dutch, all of the gang members. even Abigail couldn’t escape it. only Jack survived revenge got no one anywhere it just finished off bastards that had it coming and woulda died within time
Dude go play RDR1. It’s very satisfying playing RDR1 & 2 in chronological order! But I loved all the nostalgia that RDR2 gave us as well for people who played the original.

This scene is so good too because the enemies you’re fighting don’t just feel like a bunch of random expendable guys, you’re just outright wiping out Dutch’s new support system

@@Herryyyynope, Dutch was gonna be betrayed and handed over to the pinkertons by Micah. It's clear when they arrived in the credits to find Micahs corpse.
They weren't going at Micah's request, they heard rumors that there had been a shootout there and went looking for clues until they arrived at Mount Hagen. Dutch, from what it seems, actually went to kill Micah, so much so that when John asks what he's doing there, Dutch replies "Same as you, I guess"
Just the epicness of the moment where John must continue on alone to avenge Arthur and every other gang member that fell due to Micahs treachery. John leaves a wounded Charles and Sadie behind, and continues for the slope only to be met by former Van der Linde prospective member, Joe and two others. Just the background music and the dialogue between the two is great, the fact that it's basically the picture for the song shows how epic of a moment it was to fans. These are the only lines that Joe ever gets in story mode (has alot of dialogue in RDR online) and to be honest with you his character didn't last long in the battle but he was a familiar face and his brief dialogue with John made the scene more epic that's for sure, wiping him out just intensified the moment for me. Accompanied by the blood curdling shouts of, "Micah!! Ive come for you!!!" The scene really was amazing But yeah the music was really for this I really wish they would turn Red Dead redemption into a TV show or something it would do amazingly I think. Personally I do not have a favorite between John or Arthur, they are both legendary characters and I possess equal respect for both men and journey's. But playing as John in this final scene it felt great 👍🏻
@@muralikrishnannair6603 both theories are possible, but I'll go with Dutch being there to kill Micah under the guise of working together. He even tells John "Same reason as you. I suppose." He walked away from him when Arthur died, he's not that dishonorable when it comes to John and Arthur; his two sons. At least in RDR2, he owed that much to Arthur. This was also him closing the book on his noble persona before becoming the man John meets in 1911.

Isn't it crazy after all that Rockstar has done for us, we still doubted that Arthur could stack up against John as a protagonist? And then there we were, watching him die to the sunset, ripping our soul apart, but we had the audacity to be surprised.
It's only worse in hindsight. I didn't pick up on the real rivalry between John & Arthur until my second play through, and it makes even more sense. Anyone who played RDR is going to be on team Marston, and probably grumpy were playing as someone else. But in the end, Arthur and John were equals. Brothers. Both got a raw deal while trying to be good men.

Is what John is really about. He's a guy who does his best to be a nice guy but there is a unforgiving croner inside of him that can spread like wildfire once he ignites it. On this mission,the flames were burning white hot.
It’s the mission where he finally ends the life of a hated enemy, in the most badass way, so yea.

The sad part is that in the end everything was for nothing. Like Arthur said "vengeance is an idiot's game". If John didn't kill Micah Ross wouldn't have found him. This makes Arthur's sacrifice worthless. Then John proceeds to sacrifice himself for his family but Jack took revenge on Ross making his father's sacrifice mean nothing as well. Now Jack has become what everyone who ever cared about him tried to stop him from becoming. An outlaw on the run with nothing to live for.

Today April 17, 2022 I finished Red Dead Redemption 2 and I must say it was a insane game with endless details and great characters. Arthur Morgan a character I got so attached…and will forever be in my heart and soul. Playing as John Marston seeing him grow as a character and as a husband and father just left me speechless. When this song was playing on the mountains I felt like a badass and all I had in my mind was “this is for Arthur”. RDR1 is definitely my next game for me to explore!

This perfectly encapsulates John Marston, a man on a mission to try and put his past behind him and move into the future with his family... even if in the end it was ultimately pointless.
Rdr2 was the story of a dying west and a man's quest to save the ones he loved and redeem himself and forgive himself. The slow realization that hes living in a world where outlaws are no longer welcome, where his gang is truly dying. Arthur soughy to save as many people as he could before the hand of death came for them all

Sure its called red dead redeption, but I argue that John didn't seek redemption... just security in knowing he would bury the past, even if he would be buried with it, thats why he's so accepting when the moment comes for him to die

Yeah saving people is good, but two things: it wasn't John's business to do that, he wasn't the law nor was he employed to do that, his business was to provide for his family. By getting into fights he put himself at risk (and by extension, his family) and he made himself more visible to the law. He's still a wanted man. Let's not forget that at the very start of the epilogue they are still on the move because John killed some guy.
And secondly, Abigail knew John was a troublemaker, and she wasn't there to see when he was only defending himself or other people, so she only had his word to go on, and past experiences. You could understand why she was skeptical about his excuses.
TL;DR: No good saving strangers if you ruin your family in the process.

If I was Micah, the thing I'd be most terrified of is Arthur's hat. Seeing John wearing it would mean that he hasn't let go of what I did to the gang for an entire century. The memories, rage, and honor flowing through that hat all at the same time. Seeing the bodies of my gang falling into the snow before it. Absolutely bone-chillingly horrifying.

I wasn’t really interested in the American west in the 1800s and I wasn’t interested in cowboys or gunslingers. Now since i played rdr2 and currently playing rdr1. I love the west.

Never played Rdr1 but i will tell you the growth of John in part 2 was great and being able to finish the game off with him was a dope move.
Dude go play RDR1. It’s very satisfying playing RDR1 & 2 in chronological order! But I loved all the nostalgia that RDR2 gave us as well for people who played the original.
It should be customary to finish the story off, since the first one is the technical sequel to the 2nd one.

@@viciousrage5548 I just finished RDR2 and never played 1. I would like to but its a shame that this game has been never ported to PC (unlike the second game). I hope they will hope they port it to PC or even make a remaster/remake of original RDR (but a good one, not like with definitive edition).

RDR 2 is a masterpiece. The gameplay, the graphics, the heart touching story, and most importantly, the score, it’s just unbelievable.
The wave of nostalgia that hit me when John’s theme started playing was unparalleled. I played RDR1 to death so hearing this brought back memories.
