Fun fact about this show: The kids were notorious throughout the season for interacting directly with the on-field judges during the show while in-character. They would get right up in the judges' faces while yelling and crying out things like "Noooo~! It's not tiiiime!!". The judges described it as "Creepy". One judge mentioned that a kid crawling around on the ground reached out for him and grabbed his ankle as he walked past.
Even 16 years later after seeing it live, this show exhilarates, terrorizes and inspires in such equal measure. The made-for-finals Coda still remains as stunning, but years later I find myself so much more affected by the musicianship of the final section than the theatricality and pageantry of the tarp-pulling: there is so much yearning innate in the Horner text, but the Bell kids take it further by infusing their own longing for greatness into the music, making the ending all the more emotional. a textbook example of a visionary design perfectly matched with kids up to the challenge. Lightning in a bottle. As iconic as it gets.
I remember discovering LD BELL through this show. I live in Fort Worth and went to shitty ass Diamond Hill and I was in band too. When I saw this show... I was obsessed!!!!! I had never seen a band do show like this. This was iconic. Them to find out this school wasn't too far from me I felt honored lol
this is so INCREDIBLE to watch. Thank you SO MUCH for this upload. Still hoping a 2007 LD Bell San Antonio Super Regional. the current one on TH-cam is such bad quality. Please never stop posting. These performances are historic and need to be archived/available to us viewers :)
