It's almost 13 years ago and it still moves me to tears. My son, a sophomore, was the captain of the monument team. I am so proud of all the kids who performed with such skill. I'll forever be a very proud band parent.
Even after 5 years, this is the one show I will never forget and never not be proud to have been a part of. A great way to end any senior year of marching band.
Great tribute as a Veteran of a War ( Persian Gulf) and a veteran and active Member in the Drum Corps World ( Bayonne Bridgemen, and Bridgemen Alumni Corps)(Baritone) I was thrilled and Honored to have seen this.. Thanks...
I was a member of the L D Bell Band back in the mid 80's. I can proudly say that more than 30 years later this is an organization that expects excellence, discipline, and teamwork. To all members past and present thank you for standing for that. The lessons we learned on the marching field do matter later in life even if you no longer play an instrument. This is an organization that we can all say we were apart of and be proud that we helped contribute to it's continued excellence. That was an awe inspiring performance.
im from killeen/ft hood texas the biggest military base in the world. I was in the killeen high band in 1999. Our band was alittle bigger and we did military marches and we traveled all over with our performance. This band right here was the best i ever seen, it was emotional and very entertaining. Good job damn good job.
I am a band director and a proud supporter of our US Armed forces! I think I am going to show this video to my students this year for Veterans Day/Armistice Day. I remember the UIL Area competition in 2010; our high school marching band performed immediately after LD Bell. A very tough act to follow! Great job! ❤️💙🇺🇸
i saw this performance at the alamo dome in person i was sitting in the front row i was part of Keller Central High School Marching Band and i thought they were amazing. They deserved their success. and i read some comments about this video saying that we cant even talk to other bands i talked to some other bands and made a few friends too. if anyone from LD Bell reads this i will say one last thing it was an honor to see your performance in person you worked hard and it paid off good for you
Thank you very much, LaDonna Aiken. I just stumbled upon this, and enjoyed it immensely. Memorial Day, 2020 is tomorrow, and this is a very moving reminder of what that day is all about. That L. D. Bell band is very near and dear to me and so many others who have had the honor and privilege to be a part of it and its positive impact on people over many decades through such outstanding and unwaivering standards of hard work, performance excellence - and "hustle!" Bravo, L. D. Bell! Bravo!
This show is so special to my family and I. My cousin Miranda Banda is in the color guard with bell and this was her very first show. This show is special because The Banda family and I buried my uncle this past thanksgiving and he was buried at the National Cemetery as a veteren. This pulls at my heart strings when they bring out the crosses and what it represents. I am so happy that my uncle Pablo Banda got to see this before we laid him to rest! Sometimes you never know who you will touch.
Im apart of the jb alexander band and after we did our state performance while heading to the full band pictures I saw there performance right before my eyes really amazing and dramatic, It really made me realize how special our troops are GOD BLESS AMERICA
I Can not fathom the amount of work it took band directors and others to put this together. I thought of the Arlington National Cemetary immediately when they showed the crosses of white, but to go beyond that and honor the tomb of the unknown soldier at the tail end known to them or not was the moment that brought tears to my eyes.
This was one POWERFULL show!!!!....Do the kids who marched this realize just how powerful and dynamic this show was/is and how it brings people to tears??? By far my fav at last years Grand Nats. I normally do not comment on BOA judging, but this one the BOA judges missed in placing IMHO...
I had the opportunity to watch this show live 3 times at BOA Grand Nats in 2010. I cried every time at the end and still do. This show is a MUST watch for EVERY Memorial Day.
This was not an easy show to watch without being brought to tears by the end. Thanks LD Bell HS for an amazing and thoughtful show. This one went far beyond just performing well. Would have loved to have seen this one live!
@trumpetrox94 L.D. Bell's show was called "Honor." It was a tribute to those who have died for our country and those who are fighting and have fought for us, it's a huge recognition. My dad who fought in the Vietnam war cried after this performance and was honored that they made this show. He thought it was amazing and so did the rest of my family-- and most judges at their competitions.
Its been since 2010 since i saw this show! So i was in the tunnel of the Alamodome at State, i believe either before or after and i was just both intimidated and in awe! Such a moving show and the production in this was incredible.......Simple yet very effective with the color guard doing a costume change from the uniforms to white and the tombstones. Pure Theater and not truly over the top! Wish i could go back to watch this myself.......To those who were in this band at the time. Thank you for both scaring the hell out of me and also giving me a show to remember. From an Alexander Band Alumni!
One of the most moving marching shows ever. Patriotic shows are typically extremely corny (sign of Rosie the Riveter..etc. ) Leave it LD Bell to do it right! Thank you LD Bell.
This is the most beautiful marching show i have ever heard or seen. It was an honor to compete with yall last year and i cant wait to see yall again next Saturday at BOA regional!! Best of luck from the Spirit of Saginaw Band.
It will be a amazing competition, not only in 5A but in 3A too. Its going to be a really tough competition at the Area round. I definitely want to make the most of my senior year.
This brings me to tears every time I see it. Had the privledge to see this show in person performed at Grand National championships a few years back. Not ashamed to say I was very teary eyed. God bless all of our Veterans.
it was my first year in marching band when my small high school band came to see them at grand nats. i was totally aww struck by them and all the other bands. i never wanted it to end. i wanted to stay in that moment forever. after seeing them i finally understood what our instructor meant by "a good performance will capture the crowd, and leave it wanting more."
Thank you, LaDonna Aiken, for your careful and excellent filming and editing. This show is worthy of the work it took to preserve it and make it available to the world.
You said your Uncle was laid to rest at the National Cemetery. People often say National Cemetary but it is the one in the area of which we live or there is the one I know & love in Arlington VA. My brother has his Memorial stone there. I have visited that stone on each birthday, holiday and the day we lost him, 8/5/82. He is right on Porter Road which is a very short jaunt to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. I to tear up when they bring out the crosses. My your Uncle rest in peace!
I am in a marching band in Las Vegas, NV. MY high school has one of the best marching bands in the city. After wastching L.D. Bell for the first time, I cried and I learned that NV marching bands suck. This is an absolutely amazing marching band and they deserve a lot of credit for putting that moving of a show together. I can't decide what was better, the music or the visuals. Absolutely amazng job! :)
My favorite part has to be when they played "the Pacific" theme song. I'm in my high schools marching band and really hope we do a show like this one year. I loved this show. Awesome job and God bless all the men and women who serve in the US Military. Thank you for all that you do, whether you're a veteran, current service member, or will someday be in the US Armed Forces. We will always be in your debt. Again guys, awesome job on this show. It literally brought a tear to my eye.
10:32 - 10:45 was heart breaking. This is why being in step is so important at all times. You never know who is looking at you. When you are the only one out of step, you stick out like a toaster in a tree. No Disrespect to this band, but that's what takes a band from being ok, to winning competitions!! Everyone being in step!! Judges can pick that out from a mile away. However this show as a whole is still one of my favorite shows that i have ever seen. I was lucky enough to witness this in San Antonio at the State Marching Contest in 2010 and thinking, wow, how do those kids put on a performance like that with so much emotion and difficulty!! Great Job to the LD Bell Marching Band!! This is what being in band is all about, working together to accomplish a goal and moving peoples hearts while doing it. I can't express enough how great this is!! This will always be one of my favorites!!
I clicked on this as I was browsing through different band videos and I was shocked to find this; the band I'm a member of bought the crosses off of this band! (it was a "huh, small world" moment.)
I was actually here for this performance as an opposing band! It moved me then, but even more now that my boyfriend is in the army :) thank you for this :)
@Yellowcardfan1 As a matter of fact, I found the music on Itunes, by Hans Zimmer and others. This particular piece is called "Honor" and is written specifically for the pacific series.
@AnimeonTuba they are representing the Normandy cemetary in France from the heroes that died in the D-Day Invasion on June 6, 1944...they are in rows there
loved this show, being in it was an amazing experience and made me see things differently, thanks to all the band members and staff that made that experience everything I would have ever hoped for
I was at Grand Nats watching this show...It was so amazing and brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for the upload! it's great going back and watching one of my favorite moments at BOA

This is great editing. The emotion that is put out during this/these performances is simply amazing. Thank you so much for sharing this with us all. Congratulations to Bell on your performance at GN finals. Scores aside, one of the most emotional and poignant performances I have ever seen.
@enlargedhen wtg, you are only talking about one of the best High School bands in the US, but thank you for your insight, evidently you are blind to real music, My son graduated from Bell in 2010
@Barrenosr15 yes, it's also been turned into a hymnal called "Goin' Home" by composer Harry Burleigh, who met Dvorak as he was writing New World Symhpony - it's played by the Boston police department bagpipes for officer funerals. Lyrics in next post
@euphmmx Having been an alumni from the program, I can say it's not ironic at all. That piece actually made the show for me, the closer was performed well but Salvation was a great fit for LD Bell and this show. Salvation goes way back for that program.
@mrpepsidrink I could not agree with you more. I have listened closely to those three shows from 2010 many, many times over and that is a correct statement. That said, that night I did not think so and did disagree greatly with their placing. Still one of my faves - and yes, I do shed a tear every single time I see and hear the ending of that show. Very powerful stuff....
That was truly amazing I loved it my band is a 2a so we're not that big but I would love to do this show theme our theme this year is the Rise and Fall of Rome
I love this show! It is done so tastefully and professionally! My favorite part is the mirroring in the guard in the ballad. Thank you for persuing exellence LD Bell!
So the first time i watched yall on youtube i said to myself "Wow This Band Is Amazing!!!" I was able to go to State this year and got to hear this band live!! One of the first impacts was so loud and out there i got chills!!! The one at 3:50 was so touching!!! Amazing band!! I think yall deserved State Champs over Marcus!!!! But oh well everyone knows this band is still the best in texas!!
@mistertuba13 I know you probably know this but DCI doesn't have a tuba section, they have a contra section and I agree the tubas here are quite impressive and a lot bigger than our tuba section. We had like 5 tubas last year
When I heard this band, I knew they used the music from something I had seen on TV that had to do with the military. I searched around a bit and found what I was looking for. The theme music for the HBO miniseries "The Pacific" is the same music used in Bell's show. Type in "The Pacific: Trailer (HBO)" in the search box to hear the music. It's an amazing series, but makes me wonder if they got the idea for their show from this series? Bell is great anyway.
Texas State Finals this year will be interesting....take the previous finalists and add the potential Flower Mound and other schools...it will be interesting, but the Marcus, Bell, Hebron Area definitely brings amazing competition
@Nimgimmer1492 There's room for all styles in the marching arena, The drum corps model is one that a large number of participants aspire to. btw, the trend started back in 70's
@comicdude0 As long as the flag is treated respectfully then wear and tear on them isn't a bad thing so long as it is properly disposed of and discarded when need be. Those 50 stars and 13 stripes are on there for a reason. Nothing can ever take that away from us a country. We should be proud.
It's almost 13 years ago and it still moves me to tears. My son, a sophomore, was the captain of the monument team. I am so proud of all the kids who performed with such skill. I'll forever be a very proud band parent.
Congrats. My son, a sophomore, was on the field at grand nats finals with you that year with our band from Oklahoma.
Even after 5 years, this is the one show I will never forget and never not be proud to have been a part of. A great way to end any senior year of marching band.
Saw this at Grand Nats. It's the first show that ever made me cry. Absolute beauty.
