The problem is the Bias is not set right. Out of the box from the factory, drawing 2.4 amps idle! They are blown up because people are driving the snot out of them and some big amps are spiking the mosfets.
What are the upgrade mosfet numbers you're using? Also, I put new (4) mosfets in the Amp, two in the radio. Am screams sideband is all garbled can't understand it. Frequency is ok. Clarifier ok. Sideband will swing 200 as will AM. Any ideas?
I know most of the pros use BIRD meters. I'm NOT a big fan of BIRD meters.. Slugs and all, batteries... Just buy a good set of meters that cost way less and WALA no hassles.. DOSY, PARA DYNAMICS, BULLDOG, ASTATIC, amongst many more all have upper-line meters that work just fine. I know they are not a PRECISE as a BIRD meter but way fewer hassles and if they are a few watts off NO BIGGIE!
have you noticed a lot of the channel selector pots are very sloppy to some feel like there just going to fall apart. but I love mine its the nicest radio I have ever owened

+4estfloor Thats the great debate in the CB world. I like 148 and Grants, but a Cobra 29 hands down is 1 of the loudest and cleanest out there, but Galaxy is giving it a good shot with there 900 series radio's.

Barkett's told me to set them at 3.8V.

I would replace that amplifier section with a bipolar transistor amplifier section with two HG 2290s.
