Using eBay QR Codes for Shipping- No Printer, No Problem....Sorta!

- Ebay has the ability to download a QR code for label printing at the Post Office. Theoretically you can save on label, ink, and printer cost by letting the PO print for you. I tested the QR code process and here is what I found! Enjoy!

My post office has like a 2/5 rating on Google but they treat me 5 star everytime. It's relationship building with them and we get them Christmas presents and everything. Take care of the people that take care of you!! Also thanks for heads-up no QR coding for me!!

My printer doesn't work with my laptop, so I just print out my addresses by hand and that works with me, but I feel like I could save money on shipping if I could use the QR or my printer. I am up to be a Top Rated Seller in 3 days, so that is supposedly supposed to give me a break too, but I'm old and just want things the way they were back in the old days. LOL
But I didn't know anything about how to do this and now I do, thanks to you.
It would be nice to be able to print out my labels and just get the PO to pick up packages. Another "back in the old days" thing I used to be able to do was to just put the required postage on a book and put it in the mail boxes outside the post office! My, have times changed.
I love my postal workers too, but one just left on Friday to move to another location and the other is out on leave. So no telling what's facing me on Monday. :/ Better be a nice person!

I've been using the QR code via the app for the last few months. Love it. I usually ship a few things at a time so it works for me. Except I've not seen the option for media mail. I'll check to see if it works via desktop.
I figured out a way to figure out how to not mix them up. Right down the code number on a notebook, and right down the item next to it. Same with the others, than when you go to the post office check the code on the notebook to make sure it's right. And there ya go.
Thanks for the explanation! I wondered how that would work, after hearing the details I think I will stick with my current process. A big part of the reason I print my own postage (besides saving money) is to skip the line at the post office- my local postal folks are nice, but not big on chatting! Great content as always
You can scan at a self serve kiosk if they have it- but that can still be a wait.
I'm glad to know that the post office had no problem scanning the QR code. I haven't tried using it yet. I always thought it would be a great option to use in case of a power outage. Since it doesn't appear to work on the eBay app, I guess I'll have to pay the retail rate at the post office if I lose access to my desktop! Or invest in a generator! We do lose power fairly often here in the wintertime!
I feel like the lack of mobile support is a bug. Hopefully they will fix that.

I have used the QR code a lot. In my experience, when I buy a label on my phone, (I have an iPhone, maybe that makes a difference?) it automatically sends a copy to my email. The email that I get has the qr code and has two options "download qr code" or Print Label". The only time I have to use the desktop version is when it is an international destination. When I use the qr code, I do like you said and take a screenshot, you can scroll down and include both the qr code and the title of the book on the screenshot to keep them straight. It is beyond annoying to get to post office and find out that I can’t get the QR code, which lead me to being confused and voiding label to attempt it again. Then to later find out that I cannot access QR code from mobile device!!?? Ugh!! I had to drive home because I found out that the QR code is sent to your email, the email that happens to not be on my device. I get home to find it is not sent to my email and the only way to get that option is through a computer!!! Ridiculous
First, thank you so much for your info, (I believe I watched your very first "just do it already!" and you got me motivated! Was wondering if you had any advice as to how to photograph interior pages without showing your finger pinning down page or possibly damaging the binding. Any tips? Thanks much in advance to you or any viewers who have advice! (I have the lighting and such, it's just this particular issue.)
No big tips here other than just cropping fingers out. Showing the whole page is nice but not absolutely required. Any page photos are going to be more than 99% of book seller listings. I agree with you though- best practice is to avoid any damage to the binding.
Thanks for the video, here’s an update, as of 2023 QR codes work on the app. However, if you’re combining orders to ship to one address, you cannot get a QR code. It must be printed.

I was wondering if the QR code could have the sku# on the label that is printed out?
There are some options like postage price but I did not see any way to do that. It would be useful for sure.
Please help, I want to list a 32 encyclopedia set that weighs 120lbs. Can I charge a flat rate of $90 and create 2 separate 60lb shipments of media mail?
It may not let you enter that much flat weight. So- do calculated shipping based on weight. Since you will need 2 boxes- add $ to your handling on shipping. That will cover extra supplies plus the extra ‘start’ cost of a second media shipment. Buy the first label. Then you can go to the shipped item and buy a second label.
That assumes it will not let you put in $90. If it does- just buy the second label as above.
I have great postal workers at my small town post office too. Do you keep the postal receipt? I print my mailing labels through eBay at home so I already have the tracking number. I’ve been keeping the receipts, I guess for backup.
Ha! I stash them in the console of my truck then have a purge every couple of months. Knock on wood- with the automatic tracking upload I’ve never had a problem.

I have a return and the post office won't accept the qr code because the item is too big to take.
I don't know what to do as the seller is refusing to give me a correct qr code for the return!
Just ask the seller for refund of your postage and buy direct at the post office. Seller did ship by USPS originally, correct?
I used this in the past and just this week I attempted to do so again. When I hit "SAVE QR" I later could not find it. No email, no anything! I lost so much money on the deal!!!
You can go into eBay shipping and cancel label and ask for a refund

Probably not. But you should be able to go to shipping and cancel the label if necessary and get your money back. It will take them a week or so to credit.

Thank you. Could you help? I returned an item on ebay. I don't have a printer (so no printing of shipping label) and my Post Office is not set up w/ QR Codes yet...so I hand-printed the shipping address and mailed it to the Seller, and I have a tracking number. For whatever reason...Ebay does not show that I returned it yet...I guess bc I didn't use their shipping label. And I don't know how to tell the system that I returned it. It's already arrived back to the Seller, apparently, but the Seller has not refunded yet nor responded to my emails. And I can't seem to get ebay involved...their site says to (click to "get ebay involved"...but there is no such button that I can find). I don't know how to contact ebay. Any help is appreciated...as when I call their phone numbers, it's impossible to reach anybody.
Interesting- I do not know where you can enter return shipping tracking manually. The best is to call eBay. At the bottom of the home page or under my eBay there should be a contact us. I have called before with ok success. They usually do a call back pretty fast.
@@curatorofthelost Thank you. I've tried every phone number given and that I can find on the internet. In all cases I was unable to leave my information (so I could get a call back), much less actually talk w/somebody live. The machine just constantly will give me "links" to go to...never able to reach any body or anything where I can request a return call.
That is a pain. If the seller will not respond you could see if you can file a complaint on the seller with item issue. Type your issues. Seller and eBay will have to respond to that.

Does this work only with specific couriers or can I take it to ANY post office and it will work?
It should work at any post office. Just USPS of course. Not UPS or FedEx.

So somehow someone concluded that having to go to the post office was more convenient than printing and attaching a label and putting a package in your mailbox to return something.
I don't have a printer, and my mailbox at my apartment won't fit my package....so yea.
