Hey Jesse, one tip I learned in the motocross world is that you want to get your engine warmed pretty well before draining the oil. The theory is that the debris falls to the bottom of the engine casing and sump when it’s cold. When the engine oil is really warmed and recently run, the debris is suspended in the oil so when you go to drain it, most of that debris flows out with the hot/warm oil.
Really good video! Appreciate you emphasizing the importance of filter after filling! I would have never thought the bike needed to be done like that. Crazy! Good job i watched your video! Unrelated Question; are you having problems with the windshield not staying up?
@@mikerichards2421 I dont have the bike anymore. It was too tall so I sold it. But no didn’t have any issues. Maybe it’s loose ? Thank you for watching. Glad I can help.
Cheers mate picked mine up today, I reckon 10000 miles (16000 km’s)service intervals are a little bit too long for my liking, I will be dropping the oil at 8000 km’s which will give me peace of mind.. Thanks for the video mate
I don’t recall a check engine light. I didn’t change anything in the settings. I did recall engine pressure warning that went away shortly after letting the engine run for a short time.
Nice vid, Jesse. Used your video to change mine for my 600 mile service. Cheers! Couple of questions: 1. Why did you use the side stand vs the center stand? Is that what you're supposed to use? 2. How did you reset your service light?
Thank you glad I can help! I have a slippery garage floor so it’s tough to get the bike on the center stand but that would have been better. I didn’t get a service light at 600 miles so I didn’t have to reset anything. Thanks for watching. More videos coming soon, stay tuned 👍🏼
doing my own annual service, so this is helpful. the manual says I need to take the sump guard off before changing the oil, but doesn't look like you did that. Is that really necessary? There's a hole in the sump guard for the drain plug, so I'm not sure why it says to do that.
Great video. I did everything mentioned, the oil fill is about 3/4 full on sight glass. The engine oil fill shows up when I power the bike on, when I start up it goes away. When I shut off it comes back on, not sure what's going on here.
This video was actually very awesome. No my question is I just did my 600 mile maintenance service in the dealership change the oil. How am I supposed to know that they knew that they should install the oil filter after the new oil?
Nice job! Did you change out the rear diff oil as well? Had my first service done by my dealer. Included the diff oil, which is recommended by Triumph.
This really makes me wonder how many trained mechanics do or know this. I haven't changed the oil in mine yet. If I take the filter off before I drain it. Will oil not come pouring out of it?
If they read the manual, they will know. Also still drain all the oil normally it’s only adding oil that you want to add the oil first as far as I know. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Service tech explained to me that with an app, tools and hardware, it can be disabled/reset. I forgot the details but it's not simple. The reason I asked is because they just put a new engine in my bike - under warranty - and I didn't want to ride a 300 mile round trip just to get the service light turned off by a Triumph Dealership - since I had planned on changing the break-in oil, myself. He said not to worry about the light because he had already programmed it to reset after 600 miles and afterwards the service light shouldn't start blinking until 10,000 miles. Today I noticed that both of the trip odometers were just a few miles beyond zero and the new engine also has 600 plus miles total. The rest of the bike is at about 38,000 miles...
David there will be some oil coming out of the oil filter port when you pull the filter off. When you top the bike off with fresh oil you shouldn’t get much oil coming out. Maybe you’ll get a bit but nothing crazy.
@@jesseonamotorcycle But your manual said 10W50. I don't mean to poke around too much, I guess what I'm asking is, is it safe to put 40 even if the manual says 50?
I just bought a 2023 triumph tiger with 600 miles and the dealership conducted the maintenance service of the 600 mile. Do you think that I should change the oil again just in case they didn’t install the filter after the engine oil ? I guess I don’t wanna keep riding the bike, knowing that there is a airlock in the engine.
@@tiagojgoncalves4898 that’s going to be up to you whether you trust the dealership maintenance department or not. But if it was me I would honestly do whatever helps me sleep better at night.
Sharing my experience! I just did mine at 2500 miles because I never trust what the dealer put in. I did it on the center stand (maybe this is where my problem came from?.. not sure) I did the oil fill first and then the filter and my low pressure light would not go out. So I turned it off, loosen the oil filter but left it tight enough so I could start it with the oil filter loose. No oil came out low pressure light still on... only ran it for about 30 seconds then turned it off. Then I backed off the oil filter till it spit some oil out. Then spun the filter back to the 10nm per specs in the book. This burped the air out of the system and I was able to get the low pressure light to go out. Anyone find a tool that you can reset the service light with?
Oil poured out of the oil filter hole on the center stand. 😂Just saying do not listen to everything on the internet and talk to a qualified dealer. I changed my oil exactly the way I always have and the check oil light stayed on for Less Than 3 seconds and went off
Then all of the oil should have run out on the floor. I work at Baxter cycle Marne Iowa, one of the biggest volune dealers in the country. It doesn't matter side stand or Center stand it's going to run out.
I'm about to do my first change. This is kinda confusing. I can't see how the same bike can differ in an oil change. Is this the only bike Triumph makes that has this weird oil change procedure?

I have noticed this warning in the owner manual and when I was looking for some vídeo about the procedure, I found an official video from Triumph Brazil with the wrong procedure th-cam.com/video/yZdLXwl4Rc0/w-d-xo.html I am just amazed how Triumph Brazil can be so inresponsible. Hey Jesse. Looking at the filter is Triumph OE equipment so shouldn't affect the warranty for an owner to do their own servicing?
