    I have been studying this system for years along with my martial arts I am a 3rd degree black belt in Go Ju Ryu and this is a great addition to our system. I have all the DVDs And CDs and also went to a seminar on it. It is truly a brilliant system.

    My father, when sparring as a young man, told me that in a fight I need to stand my ground unless I must step back. This seems to have sharpened my charge response against tactical maneuvers. People who attempt some complex kick of big punch would tend to get knocked down. I find myself well served by naturally throwing my shoulder into their low chest. Later sharpened with wrestling, my Tae Kwon Do master found kicks impossible in the sparring we did. "No don't ax kick me!"

    so is S.P.E.A.R reprogramming the startle-flinch response, or a system of moves that follow it. I'm assuming the latter because S.P.E.A.R involves complex motor skills.

    How about they cover their head when they are getting "the shit kicked out of them" because the attacks from the attackers are aimed at their head and they don't like getting their heads bashed? Maybe its the ATTACKERS who are not startle flinching but using motor skills to purposely aim for the head and face? DUH! This guy is a joke. he talks way too much and says the word SHIT way too much to where he comes off as trying too hard to sound tough. Its ridiculous. All of his SPEARS System jargon is silly. Kickboxers put their legs up and arm bc that is how a person blocks a leg kick, and the hands are up in case the kikc comes to their head. That technique is a trained technique, not a startle flinch "untrained" technique.
    If SPEARS is all about untrained things why the hell are people "TRAINING" in it? this is stupid.

      You are a dumb ass. Listen to what he is saying...and understand that he teaches military and law enforcement...YOU DONT...so shut up and pay attention..it may save your life.

      steve gledhill no i am not a dumb ass. And no i wont waste time listening to him jibber jabber about statistics and other crap. A ton of people can teach law enforcement. I dont see him teaching cops anywhere right now. Maybe he did before. A lot of karate instructors have taught cops as well. Now all he does is teaches crossfit yuppies.
      This guy embellishes his knowledge so much. Everything he does is already in Karate and other martial arts. So maybe YOU should shut up.

      MaharlikaAWA You really don't get it, do you? It's not the guy, not the authority he brings, who he has taught, like a karate expert, but what he is talking about. This is hard science, that's why it's more useful than listening to people who say "this works because my grandmaster taught it...".

      Ok, now you are just running your mouth slandering Blauer. Why have I never seen or heard even one TMAist cite research and/or statistics? Probably 'cause they, along with you live in a little fantasy warrior land, caring not at all for the realities of being caught in a criminal ambush... So, come on, link to even ONE TMAist citing science and statistics...

      @MaharlikaAWA 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Verner Riecke Because you are ignorant and never visited every single TMAist in the entire world. Many of us know a ton about fighting and self defense. Get a clue. The only one living in a fantasy warrior land is Blauer and his crossfit lemmings. Also reading a textbook or quoting CIA of FBI stats does not win a street fight when you are attacked. KNowing how to fight is what saves you not doing "mountain climbers to the belly." LOL
