Something else that makes it special, there’s no professional teams in the state of Alabama. College is the biggest thing. So this is it for Alabamians. I think that’s why I think it’s slightly better than the other cfb rivalries

People only remember the Kick Six, but don't realize how great the whole game was. It was one of the very few times both AU and Bama were in the top 5. Both were still in the hunt for the national title (so it was really a playoff game). Saban wanted a review on the last play and got that one second put back on the clock. Then the kick happened.

The Kick Six was the Saturday after Thanksgiving(huge American holiday, always on a Thursday). My wife and I went to her parents' house for Thanksgiving and drove back that Saturday. We got back to our apartment and she said "I'll find a parking space for the car if you carry all of the suitcases up to the apartment." And I was like "deal!" I got there, remembered the Iron Bowl was really late in the game, so I left all of the suitcases in our front entrance and flipped the game on. Just in time to see the Kick Six. I felt bad that my wife missed it. But since I'm a much bigger football fan than her, it mattered much less to her than to me. What an epic play. I have no dog in that fight and I know Bama-Auburn is intense. I just love college football. And I love seeing epic and historic moments. Considering how vividly I remember it 8 years later is proof of that.

It went from excitement for the missed field goal, to Chris passing the 20-yard line. The crowd really built once he passed the 50. The noise grew. From there it became this beautiful and hard-earned celebration of our small town in Alabama. The one we love. Auburn. War Damn.

@thebeesleys to explain this rivalry is to explain a ultra to an American sports fan, so let me help you a little bit , the game between the university of Alabama ( Tuscaloosa ) and auburn university also in alabama is called the iron bowl bcoz Alabama is the biggest producer of iron in the United States , the schools are 128 miles apart and the game had gone back and forth the whole time , up until the last play where Alabama needed only a field goal kick to win well in American football the ball is considered live if it DOES NOT GO THROUGH THE UPRIGHTS , which was the case , so auburn ( Chris Davis and the guys in navy blue ) put someone in the end zone and when he realized he could bring the ball out and thus make it a (live ball ) he went 100 yards and won the game
Here’s the full game for context (th-cam.com/video/c3vpETRvaNU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=sbNleGoXxTS1f4T_)

So story time everyone, I predicted this happening is one of the best ways possible. I was in college at the time and the school had a night time cafeteria open till like midnight. Had just got done at the gym and me and my buddy went to grab food. We sit down out the large table in front of the tv where the game is on just before the kick takes place. Now I also have to mention there are 6-7 guys who are also sitting sitting here who were here before us and had been there the whole game. Best part is all of them are Alabama fans except for 1 guy and they have been talking massive sh*t to him the whole game. So we sit down ask how the games going Bama guys say "oh we got this shit on lock, this one's over man". All the other's agree. I look up see that Alabama has to kick the ball back to Auburn. I said out loud "You never know, they could run back for a touchdown". Of course everyone is like no, that never happens, yada yada. And then it F*ing does. Oh my god it was the most glorious sport moment I have ever witnessed. The Bama fans were having a meltdown as the Auburn guy is jumping up and down cheering. I just felt like a damn god. As soon as they score Auburn guy just starts throwing mad sh*t talk back at them for all the abuse he sat through earlier. It was amazing and one of my favorite sports moments of all time
