Some answers to yalls questions: 1) Saban has confirmed that was a drawn up play that Alabama runs in practice every week 2) The term you were looking for is "redshirt" in regards to Milroe being a redshirt sophomore 3) Nick you were wrong when you picked Georgia over Alabama 4) This is just trivia but Auburn has a tradition where when they win a game they toilet paper their trees. Before that 4th down, everyone started toilet papering Auburn's campus. Then Milroe happened and they had to clean it all up. 5) Some more trivia, Alabama used to be a military school and Auburn was an agricultural school. This is why to this day Alabama's nickname for Auburn is "the barn" and their fans are called "barners"
23:40 Great catch! Just searched it up and in the rulebook it states: "The offensive team may make one forward pass from behind the line during each down. If the ball, whether in player possession or loose, crosses the line of scrimmage, a forward pass is not permissible, regardless of whether the ball returns behind the line of scrimmage before the pass is thrown." So because the QB crossed the line of scrimmage, the ball could not be thrown even though he went back. I didn't know that until you pointed it out. As someone who watches a lot of MLB, it seems like a lot of announcers don't know some of the important rules lol.
Like mentioned before, "Redshirt" is the term you were trying to come up with. It can actually be used in any of the 4 years of eligibility. It can also be used by a player that played in less than 5 games. Example : If a Junior gets hurt in the 4th game, they can retroactively claim a red shirt year. Then, the following season, they revert back to Junior eligibility status. But, it's more commonly used on freshmen that play a position that they know they aren't going to get any playing time the first year. Coaches use this in recruiting QBs. If the team has a Senior starter, that isn't going to get beat out, they get a QB that they want, and are able to just "put them on a shelf" for the next season.
The term for Milroe's year off status is red shirt ,players are given an extra year of eligibility when they sit out a year .. It's fairly common in college football .
On bad snaps like that the qb recovers it but he’s blind so if he’d try to get up and run what would most likely happen is he gets rocked and most likely he loses the ball and the defense recovers it. So milro just going down is the safest thing to do
I can't say it enough, but I have a ton of respect for how quickly you guys have caught on to college football and embraced it as fans. There is nothing like it; the rivalries that go back well over a century, the pageantry of everything surrounding the game, the high stakes of the regular season, I could go on and on. It's just awesome to see two blokes (as you Brits would say) that understand why so many of us in the US love college football waaaaaaay more than the NFL. Games like The Game, The Iron Bowl, The Apple Cup; there is simply no comparison in American professional sports. Also, I always look forward to these reactions; you've become the only college football reaction channel I watch. Crossing my fingers you do a video for my Wolverines victory over the Buckeyes, though I hear Fox is being a huge D Bag for people trying to use their highlights of the game. Go Blue!
You men need to come watch us play in Tuscaloosa Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium . We have the best food and drink . We're going to be strong next year ,we have a very young team this year.
The term you’re looking for is “red shirt.” If you play in fewer than four games, you retain a year of eligibility. So a “true sophomore” is a second year player that can still red shirt. A “red shirt sophomore” is a player entering his third year with three years of eligibility remaining. There are also medical redshirts, which are conditionally awarded if a player loses a year due to injury. So now you can read the jargon “RSJR” or “true frosh” and have some idea what’s going on.
I was a mess during this game. Pacing back and forth in front of the tv. After the bad snap, I just knew it was over, we lost. For a brief second, I had a thought of him throwing a TD, but I immediately dismissed it as a fairy tale, not gonna happen. Then it did. Took me a min or so to believe it. Roll Tide!
I all but accepted defeat when Milroe tried to make a pass after leaving the line of scrimmage 5yds behind him for the second time in one game. His amazing athletic abilities saved the game, but his poor spatial awareness almost cost it. I hope he gets some serious football tutoring this week. Rammer Jammer
Players are taught to fall on a loose ball instead of risking the other team getting possession of the football. Milroe falling on the ball was the correct decision.
22:33 There's NO WAY the QB has time to throw the ball after recovering the bad snap at the 25. He did the smart thing by diving on the ball so his team would keep possession and have another chance to score.
Hard to tell from that angle but it also kind of looks like the QB didn't have a proper handle on the ball when he first picked it up, so just falling on it was indeed the correct call.
Exactly. Plus, quarterback knows that it's hard to cleanly pick up a moving football, especially under those circumstances, so he didn't want to take the chance and have the ball potentially get picked up by Auburn.
I’ll never fault a player for diving on a loose ball. I’ve seen too many guys trying to turn a fumble into six points only to lose possession entirely. Sometimes it’s a hard pill to swallow, but it is almost always the best decision, as long as it isn’t 4th down.
Just wanted to make a quick comment about the bad snap. Due to crowd noise the snap was on the clapping of the QB's hands. Bama players said after the game that the Auburn Defense was clapping and the QB wasn't expecting the snap. Should have been a penalty. Officiating was God awful.
You're correct and the announcer was wrong. I actually didn't know this and had to look it up It's also a penalty even if you first throw backwards to a teammate behind the line of scrimmage and they throw it forwards. So I think the announcer just didn't know the rule because players know the rule and as such it never actually happens.
I grew up in Alabama , Auburn vs. Alabama is the greatest intra-state college football rivalry in the USA .I don't know how many of these games I have seen ,surely more than 50 . Even when one of them is highly ranked nationally ,sometimes # 1 ,they are not a sure thing victor . Auburn's last second 100 yard missed field goal return for a game winning touchdown has to be the single wildest finish of any game in the entire history of college football . ROLL TIDE
Only in high school football can a quarterback cross the line of scrimmage, go back "behind" the line of scrimmage again, and throw a pass. It is illegal to do that in college and the NFL. ....Yes, the announcer was wrong.
The bad snap in the 4th quarter should have been a penalty on Auburn, it’s illegal to clap on defense to simulate the snap but if you rewatch it, the Safety comes up and claps and that’s when the center snapped it.
Saban’s first year was my last year at UA. Football under Shula was hard to watch. If you were there 4yrs, at least you got a SEC Championship with Dubose (who has been coaching HS Football in the next town over from where I live for years now). Things sure do change. Lol
@@areguapiri UCF wasn’t nearly as embarrassing as the loss to Louisiana Monroe. I stood in the stadium and watched it happen. I like to think the Dynasty started the next day.
He could have thrown the ball away, but he slipped. The Auburn player was coached to CHEAT, he clapped hos hands to simulate a snap for Bama (the ref right beside him did not call it, these were the same Refs that shafted us vs. Tenn. last year). This was not a well played game tbh.
Just as a rule clarification, it would be an automatic first down with pass interference so it would have been first and goal from around the 16-yard line with about 30 seconds left in the game.
I used to watch y’all when you first made the channel, I’m just now coming back around with this video and I must say I’m super impressed by how much y’all have learned about the game since you started. 25:55 Throw it to the back pylon. Literally. Stay off that corner unless you’re wide assed open. It’s an emergency release zone. Drop it on the back pylon.
Great reaction as always from two very knowledgeable British guys. Epic win by Bama! This one will be talked about forever. That receiver will never by a drink again in Tuscaloosa. ♠ Great job and I absolutely love your enthusiasm for college football. I know soccer is your first love, but college football has become your mistress. ♣
At 24:00, the announcers for CBS's prime time SEC games are loathed by every SEC team for how bad they are. They've done everything from getting players names wrong to flat out just getting rules wrong. Everyone hates Gary and Brad.
This game is at Auburn's Jordan Hare Stadium. I was in the car, on the way to friend's house, and this game had captivated the radio broadcast I was listening to. He said, "I'm going to fired for doing play by play for this game, but I don't care." and "There is real magic that happens at Jordan Hare Stadium."
In college football, the pass interference rule is 15 yards (or half the distance inside the redzone). **HOWEVER, if the interference occurs in the endzone, then the ball is automatically placed at the 2 yard line. Obviously in retrospect Alabama getting it on the 2 yard line is better than a TD right there, but you would never think he's going to laser the ball into the corner of the end zone that perfectly for his receiver.
honestly i would love to hear yall make more premier league comparisons. i love the prem & ive been watching it on and off for 10 years, so keep in mind tht it is growing here in the US, especially in soccer cities like ATL and st louis
You are correct. In college, if the player goes down, he's down, and the play is over. In the NFL, a player can get up unless he's touched by an opposing player WHILE he's down. Also, yeah, in the NFL, pass interference is a spot foul. In college, it's 15 yards (of course if it occurs in the end zone, it's 1st down at the 1 yard line).
It is not any body part beyond the line backwards, it is the opposite. So because Milroe still had one foot beyond the line of scrimmage that makes it an illegal forward pass (5 yard penalty and loss of down). You can't even have a toe beyond. (Regarding your comment of the down before the (43 second mark) touchdown pass.) Once the ball crosses the line it cannot be thrown at all. So idk what the announcer was talking about. 🙄
As long as the entire body and ball hasn’t crossed the line of scrimmage, a forward pass is legal in the NCAA. There is definitely no going back after it has been crossed though.
The officiating in this game was absolutely abysmal. Nice of you guys to try ot justify them, but there was no justification for some of these calls on both sides.
It was a great game to see both of your reactions. Still don't know why Auburn didn't either rush more pressure or just keep everyone closer to the end zone, bama had to get a TD as it was 4 and goal from the 31. Now though you both understand rivalry games and especially the end of season are the best games. As a Michigan fan, it was a great weekend. I am sure you both understand now that college is just more than the NFL. The viewership for these games is crazy. The Michigan Ohio State game averaged between 19 and 23 million viewers. Which beats world series games and NBA finals. The Iron bowl was close to 10 million I think. We love our teams and the games are always the best. Enjoy the championship games this weekend and then the bowls, there are going to be some great games.
Unless the rule changed which is not impossible. you cannot go over line of scrimmage and return back behind line and throw. Once over the line play is set. I believe announcer was wrong. That not impossible either lol. Dont think we see auburns right cornerback/safety playing on Sundays next year
It’s always safe to bet that CBS announcers got it wrong. I guess they announce high school games too, because that’s the only division where going back behind the line will allow for a forward pass.
Nick Saban is getting close to being a billionaire. He was in Italy over the summer at the Ferrari factory. He owns a Ferrari factory to go with his Mercedes dealership and his stock in Mercedes.
If you go across the line of scrimmage, you are allowed to run BACK behind it and throw a pass. But your entire body has to be behind the line. The announcer was right, you either have to run there or back up back behind the line, unfortunately, he doesn't get completely across when he backs up
Once the entire body and ball has crossed the line of scrimmage, no forward pass of any sort is allowed in college football. It is legal to do in High School Football, but not college or NFL.
A pass interference on the 4&31 is also an automatic 1&10. So that would not have been smart considering the time left on the clock. But great reaction! Roll Tide!
@@tylerjackson4212 if the choice is giving up a TD or a defensive PI call that gives a 1st and 10 at the 15 you’re saying you wouldn’t commit the penalty and just give up the TD? Cause those are the two choices.
Yep, once the QB has crossed the line of scrimmage, he can't throw downfield any longer. Even if he backpedals behind the line of scrimmage, he'd already crossed it, so it wasn't a legal play. The announcer got it wrong. That happens, most play-by-play guys have never played the game so they don't know the rules the way others do. The color commentator (almost always a guy who has played the game before) often has to correct the announcer. Also, you're correct that in college, once the player is down, he's down. It's not like the NFL in that regard.
If Auburn had committed PI in the endzone on the 4th and 31, it would have been 1st down and goal at the 1 yard line. So Bama would have probably gotten the TD anyway.
I'm confused. It was third down when Milrose crossed the line and passed the ball. I thought the penalty was 5 yards and a loss of down. This means Alabama shouldn't have run the last play. It automatically should have Auburn ball to run out the clock. Am I right or wrong?
Most penalties are loss of yards and replaying the down. Intentional grounding is at the spot of the foul and a loss of down. Since it was 3rd down, it's now 4th down at the spot of the foul.
I think Milroe was a Redshirt Freshman which means his freshman year would not count against his eligibility so long as he doesn't play more than 4 regular season games.
i absolutely HATE playing Auburn every year. I've seen 3 and 8 Bama teams absolutely DESTROY Auburn. I've also seen 4 and 7 Auburn teams DESTROY Bama. It's ridiculous. This rivalry can absolutely make or break a season, and because it's a rivalry both teams show up regardless of rankings.
26:25 if he would have got a pass interference call it would be a fresh set of downs. It wouldn’t continue to be 4th down like you was saying. Nice vid tho!
Anything can happen in the rivalry weekend and this time Bama gets the miracle auburn only had two people rushing the qb on the game winning touchdown this Saturday conference championships and Sunday we know the playoffs teams and all the bowl games
As a Bama fan I really hope they do, but as a college football fan, I still really hope Bama wins for the simple fact that I REALLY do not want to watch another nothing team get beat by 50+ points in the National Championship. I’m certainly biased, but to me being undefeated in any conference besides the SEC should not automatically secure a playoff spot. One loss SEC teams are almost always better than undefeated teams from other conferences by playoff time.
Nobody knows wtf Auburn was doing on defense. Rushed two who stopped rushing as if they were worried the qb was going scramble 31 yds and score. That was moronic defense.
Nice little push off by the receiver at the end there. So that could have been OPI, but you are right that the DB should have mugged that guy before letting him get near to catching the ball.
That kind of “interference” goes on in just about every passing play in football. The Ref’s already screwed Alabama six ways from Sunday in every play that mattered. Letting one teensy push off go was the least they could do.
I think the announcer on the illegal forward pass got caught calling it live without enough of a tone change. As in, he was in the middle of saying he's gotta run now when Milroe did it, so he, in the moment, pivoted to what was happening in that "unless he doesn't gotta because he's just gonna commit the penalty" way, but never changed his tone, or finish with "which is of course illegal. He's been around, he knows well enough you can't do that. No matter how good one is, live play by play can turn anyone around for a sec.
That was the most brutal ending ever as an Auburn fan. But we will mess them up in their stadium next season. Lost season for Auburn going into it anyway. I went out to my lumber pile after and broke wood for 10 minutes. Pure rage, but I felt much better afterward.

The officiating in this game was absolutely abysmal. Nice of you guys to try ot justify them, but there was no justification for some of these calls on both sides.
That was a great game!
Longtime Bama fan here and seeing those crying Auburn fans made my day. May sound mean but that’s the rivalry.
Rather be an AU Tiger than an FU Tider.
Any way that Nick can nod more? There were a few plays and moments where he has not nodding. Thanks!
can't wait to see Damo's reaction to the Bills-Eagles game, hope you guys caught it live!!
I’ve been a college football fan and Alabama fan for 60+ years and didn’t know the QB couldn’t move back behind the and make a pass.
It is legal to do in high school, but not in the NCAA or NFL.
Thanks for the info. It is an obscure rule.
Roll Tide!
Its about time a miracle happened against the tigers in Jordan-Hare instead of for them, no hate haha. Go Dawgs!
A pass interference on the 4&31 is also an automatic 1&10. So that would not have been smart considering the time left on the clock. But great reaction! Roll Tide!
Well…it’s smart if you think you’re beat and he’s gonna catch it.
@@shag139 that gives them 4 extra chances to score, with a timeout still.
Auburn getting away with the blatant illegal shift on 4th and 2
Tell me you guys are doing the Michigan v Ohio State game.
They won't. They have been asked for 6 months to do 21 or one of the rivalry documentaries. They refuse to do it.
@michaelyeomans8992 we haven’t refused 😂 stop making stuff up. Easiest way to request is to put it in our discord request channel.
We had to cut our recording session short this week because of personal reasons and didn’t have time. We really wanted to do both!
War Damn Eagle !
ROLL FREAKIN TIDE!!
It was 3rd and goal.
I thought an illegal foward pass was a loss of yardage and a loss of down.
PI is automatic first down
As an Auburn fan I'm here to say I'm putting an (*) by this damn game because we won LMAO 😂🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️
Roll Tide Roll! 4 in a row !
Millroe had allday to throw
24:55 Crazy Finish Unbelievable Catch!
do tj watt the pittsburgh steelers LOLB (left outside linebacker) top 50 plays
he is the greatest defensive player on the planet right now
I think Milroe was a Redshirt Freshman which means his freshman year would not count against his eligibility so long as he doesn't play more than 4 regular season games.
Huge Auburn fan, that last play ripped my heart out but every Iron Bowl at Jordan Hare never dissapoints
Ha ha. You lost.
Huge Alabama fan, that last play filled my heart up with joy but every Iron Bowl at Jordan Hare never dissapoints
@@Ldwilling Roll. Tide. 😏
@@ThePelagicHermit your profile pic makes me think you lose in life idk
@@PHXNKVHXLIC My profile pic is a War Eagle. I would have thought you would find it kinda erotic.
i absolutely HATE playing Auburn every year.
If a pass interference penalty happens in the end zone, the ball goes to the 2 yard line. Think Bama would have still scored.
26:25 if he would have got a pass interference call it would be a fresh set of downs. It wouldn’t continue to be 4th down like you was saying. Nice vid tho!
ROLL TIDE!!! Jordan Haire is cursed, but we did it!! Amazing play that will be remembered forever!
Anything can happen in the rivalry weekend and this time Bama gets the miracle auburn only had two people rushing the qb on the game winning touchdown this Saturday conference championships and Sunday we know the playoffs teams and all the bowl games
If any team can beat Georgia it's bama Georgia has only best bama once in like the past 10 years
As a Bama fan I really hope they do, but as a college football fan, I still really hope Bama wins for the simple fact that I REALLY do not want to watch another nothing team get beat by 50+ points in the National Championship.
Oklahoma State has a chance to win the Big 12 championship next Saturday. Gotta beat the longhorns
The center for Alabama was terrible. I think he was a closet Auburn fan. 🤣
Roll Tide!!! 🔥❤️
Roll Tide
BAMA WAS PLAYING AUBURN AND THE REFS.
It’s not as interesting seeing you guys react to games you’ve already seen for me personally
Nice little push off by the receiver at the end there. So that could have been OPI, but you are right that the DB should have mugged that guy before letting him get near to catching the ball.
The defender was all over him, could've also been defensive holding or DPI once the ball was in the air.
I say the Texas vs Oklahoma game in the cotton bowl is still the best game of the season
That was the most brutal ending ever as an Auburn fan. But we will mess them up in their stadium next season. Lost season for Auburn going into it anyway. I went out to my lumber pile after and broke wood for 10 minutes. Pure rage, but I felt much better afterward.
Auburn win in Tuscaloosa? I wouldn’t bet on it. Lol
Wrong choice.
No chance
@@DNReactsobjectively it's true. UM AND OSU are the two biggest brands in CFB. The Game is watched by 20 million people every year by far the highest rated game all season. It's not up for debate your channel would get a lot more views for that game. Also it was by far the more important game with both teams being better than either in this video. Also the football that was played was higher quality. So yes objectively wrong choice
The Game got 19.1 million watchers. More then NCAA bball title game. The masters final round the Kentucky Derby. Game 5 for NBA finals Stanley cup and world series.
