Hey everyone… I know I was wrong about mentioning Taylor Swift not reaching her 8th studio album yet. I meant to specify artists that released strictly Pop albums. Many of Taylor’s LP’s are not categorized as Pop. Spare me please! 😫
Let’s appreciate the fact that she used to release music every year. With as many albums as she has at this point I think she can do whatever she wants.
She did it by having songs being given to her on a rollercoaster of fast food non stop written music done by people who usually did them not having any particurlary singer in mind. Whoever (Rihanna, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, etc,) got it, recorded it ... with Beyoncé adding her name into the songwriting credits due to ... well ... Mariah on the other hand did the same in the 90s having her music 95% of it written and produced or co-produced by herself with her collaborators (mostly Walter A.) until she burned out as she strugled to prove she could stand out away from white male music industry dominance (er ex-husband back then specially). Rihanna not recording new albuns does not come up as a surprise to me, honestly. She enjoyed it as much as she could ... but Rihanna is not only an entertainer ... she is a woman first and foremost. If she has the energy to invest in other things outside of music, why not? And she wants to focus on family, she can and she willl ... she earned her money for that.
Rihanna is the perfect example of people not appreciating what they already have. She gave us 7 albums, 7 years straight. If we truly appreciated those we wouldn’t be constantly asking her for more. She’s given us more than enough. Go listen to the tracks you skipped again.
Personally I also think that her discography is so complete and generous. But I think that what people want is to be together listening to a song, create a hype, hear it on the radio, etc. People get nothing of that by just going back to an old song on their own. So in my opinion, she should promote certain old songs that never got the promotion they deserved. There are PLENTY. She could make music videos for older songs. Music videos don't require her to make new music, and it's linked to the fashion and makeup world. That way, fans will feel the hype, the energy they're looking for with the new release of a song, without an actual new song.
Everyone deserves a break. She made a choice and I respect her decision. I’m still a fan of her music, makeup and lingerie and will continue to support. Marking my calendar for the Super Bowl!😊

I think she does have the ability to acclimate, she always has been. Also, younger fans don’t always determine whether you’ll be successful or not. We are all consumers of music and we all use the streaming platforms.

I agree, the entertainment industry is so toxic and exhausting. All of the smart celebrities have shifted over to the business aspect of things. Less pressure and stress in the public eye. People don’t realize most of the money from music is made from touring which is equally exhausting as well.

She was already working on it when she was on tour for anti. She flies all over the world, for ingredients. She really impressed me. She even can tell what someone is wearing and gets it correct. That’s her passion. I think after she fought so hard to make an album she fully controls and the sound of direction like she did anti, backfired with 8 Grammy nominations and 0 wins. The sabotage of her album release was another thing. Of all the albums that came out, hers is still charting on billboard. Makeup and fashion is the only space she probably felt like she can create freely.
Bruh imagine being in the music industry (which can be very challenging) as highlighted in this video for 11 years and people expecting you to not take a break. No matter what career or hobby or interest someone has after a while it becomes tiring and you don’t want the thing you had so much passion for to become something you don’t like doing anymore, sometimes the best thing you can do is to take a break, try other things so when or if you do eventually return to what you left you will fall back in love with it all over again.
She deserved the music break. However, it wasn’t fully a break from working all together. She was building an empire with the Fenty brand (as she should have). Now she can focus back on the music. I believe she did the right thing.

I think it’s because she’s still young and able to capitalize off the demand of the public. Usually it works the other way around where an artist continues to release music way past their prime and when the demand is no longer as high or close to what it used to be. So it’s an exceptional case. I do think she will return to music… just not so soon.

The music industry has changed so much since 2016 that I’m very curious to see how Rihanna will navigate it now. She def has the ability to go for the most number ones of all time but it will be at the cost of prioritizing music which maybe is not a good sacrifice for her other endeavours.
Let's face it.... Rihanna can do what she wants at this point because her Fenty shows are actually really entertaining, her beauty business is pretty original, and even though it has been six years since her album ANTI came out, somehow she was in the TOP 20 most heard singers on Spotify. Even though it has been so long, hundreds of millions of people are still listening to her music on the daily! If it wasn't for that, then she wouldn't have been offered to headline the halftime show in 2023.... if she wants to drop a new album in 2029, many people will stay tuned for it sooooooo
You've made great points. I'd honestly prefer to wait for music-however long it takes-as long as it means that the release will be intentional and worth repeating. Very interested in how her album process has been developed throughout the years, and what her sound will be like.
Excellent video and I agree. The rate that she put out music between 2005-2012 is crazy. That should NOT be normalized. The closest thing we have to her in the current musical landscape is Ariana Grande as she was putting out albums every other year, and people lost their minds when “thank u next” came out six months after “sweetener”. It’s important for her to spend time with her son and not just always rely on caretakers. And we all know she has her hands full with Fenty and now the Super Bowl. I would love one last goodbye album from her in 2023 or 2024, but I’m not holding my breath and I’m not begging her. The only thing I ask it that she be transparent and honest with us as fans and say what’s up rather than saying “new music is coming soon” in every interview.
I don't need new music from her tbh. I enjoy what she's doing now. You have to keep in mind that coming back from such a long break in the times we live in now is really really hard. The younger generations have new artists they enjoy.. We all get older. I'm fine with her being successful in what she does now.

The difference between her and other artists like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé or Lady Gaga is that they *love* to make music. Taylor writes constantly, Beyoncé loves to sing and Gaga does both. Rihanna used to just come into a studio sing the song the same way the demo singer already prepared it for her and that's it. She was never songwriter or a performer (even though she does it well) it was always just a job for her.
I remember she is insanely popular but it’s easy to forget how much she did in so little time. I really didn’t know she has the most number one hits out of the newer artists, only falling behind heavy hitters like Mariah, Beetles, and Elvis. That’s insane. Hell, now I know that she is apparently one of the heavy hitters herself
What she’s accomplished in such a short amount of time is exceptional. She could not be turning in that hamster wheel for that long without needing a break.

She was commercially everywhere to a point she probably got fatigued from her own hits. Also because she dosen't have much writing credits on the hit songs she would've needed to perform and do brand deals. Her brand was best move she made, and if she ever goes back to music it's for the passion of it, not for the pressure of sustaining a career.

She’s rumored to be going on a tour next year after the Super Bowl. So she’s definitely returning but not when we expect or want. It will be on her own terms now. Even if years from now I’m sure it will be worth it!

I'm a big fan of Rihanna but I'm not the type to be belligerent over an artist not realising new music. I continue to enjoy her past music to the fullest, it's not like it gets worn out or damaged by time or something. She doesn't owe me anything.
She doesn’t need to go out of her way to make a phenomenal album with tons of promotion, anyways. A woman of her status (especially with the high demand for an album) could easily put an album that is just good with little to no promotion and still sell millions.

Simply because she's been busy being a mother...and she will be even more busy when her next baby comes, It will be a long while away until we get a new album from her.
I think back to when Rihanna was actively releasing new music. Not many things compared to the excitement of my friends and I waiting for the release of her newest song, singing along with it in the car, and feeling like confident baddies even though we were just dorky kids. I think people miss that. More power to her with motherhood though, as well as her other projects and endeavors. It's really great that she has found success outside of music. But I definitely will be looking forward to watching her halftime performance.

This video was released in October. She’s been teasing the thought of a new album being released since 2018 now. People were convinced that she’s drop new music for the Super Bowl. She didn’t. She’s literally pregnant right now so we won’t get another album for at least a year or longer. My overall point is that we will get new music, but not anytime soon.
Rihanna has the right to do whatever she wants. Her decision to take a break/ stop all together is respectable and admirable. But not being transparant with her fans was pretty disappointing of her. Take Adele for example. she took breaks, she made comebacks and she always announced them. Why be so cryptic about heading towards a different careerpath?

I think her time in music is over. I’m honestly surprised that her run in music lasted as long as it did, although I like her remixes, which is probably more of a credit to her producers. She might put out a couple of albums, but the tide in music is also changing.
A lot of Rihanna’s music actually isn’t considered R&B. For example: We Found Love, Only Girl In The World, Where Have You Been, S&M, Cheers, What It Feels Like, Don’t Stop The Music, Disturbia…
Anti is her last album and I’m fine with that I still listen to that album at least once a week I feel Rihanna can take as much time as she needs and we will be here if she doesn’t we still have her discography which is longer than artists that have been in the game for years longer than her

Another factor needs to be considered which is ageism in the music industry, she is 34 now, even if she made the right marketing choices her audience won't be there! Mariah and Beyonce haven't sold 200M RIAA units.. you really need to get your facts checked before making these kind of videos. Mariah is at 124.5M (72M albums 52.5M singles) and Beyonce is at 143.5M (29.5M albums and 114M singles). The only other female artist close to 200M is Taylor Swift with 186.5M (49M albums and 137.5M singles). She has probably already crossed 200M but her old label won't be updating her certifications anytime soon since they don't own her masters either.

The music industry has changed so much since 2016 that I’m very curious to see how Rihanna will navigate it now. She def has the ability to go for the most number ones of all time but it will be at the cost of prioritizing music which maybe is not a good sacrifice for her other endeavours.

Excellent video and I agree. The rate that she put out music between 2005-2012 is crazy. That should NOT be normalized. The closest thing we have to her in the current musical landscape is Ariana Grande as she was putting out albums every other year, and people lost their minds when “thank u next” came out six months after “sweetener”. It’s important for her to spend time with her son and not just always rely on caretakers. And we all know she has her hands full with Fenty and now the Super Bowl. I would love one last goodbye album from her in 2023 or 2024, but I’m not holding my breath and I’m not begging her. The only thing I ask it that she be transparent and honest with us as fans and say what’s up rather than saying “new music is coming soon” in every interview.

Rihanna has literally said she was working on a new album. How does that make her fans wanting new music from her a fantasy?
The difference between her and other artists like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé or Lady Gaga is that they *love* to make music. Taylor writes constantly, Beyoncé loves to sing and Gaga does both. Rihanna used to just come into a studio sing the song the same way the demo singer already prepared it for her and that's it. She was never songwriter or a performer (even though she does it well) it was always just a job for her.
Beyoncé also wrote many of the songs for Destiny’s Child and a lot of her own hits.
I remember she is insanely popular but it’s easy to forget how much she did in so little time. I really didn’t know she has the most number one hits out of the newer artists, only falling behind heavy hitters like Mariah, Beetles, and Elvis. That’s insane. Hell, now I know that she is apparently one of the heavy hitters herself
What she’s accomplished in such a short amount of time is exceptional. She could not be turning in that hamster wheel for that long without needing a break.

I think back to when Rihanna was actively releasing new music. Not many things compared to the excitement of my friends and I waiting for the release of her newest song, singing along with it in the car, and feeling like confident baddies even though we were just dorky kids. I think people miss that. More power to her with motherhood though, as well as her other projects and endeavors. It's really great that she has found success outside of music. But I definitely will be looking forward to watching her halftime performance.

This video was released in October. She’s been teasing the thought of a new album being released since 2018 now. People were convinced that she’s drop new music for the Super Bowl. She didn’t. She’s literally pregnant right now so we won’t get another album for at least a year or longer. My overall point is that we will get new music, but not anytime soon.
